RIP Burn Tiles: Another tale of not an exploit to removed from game.

Playing this sionce alpha this is kinda the general NQ improvement strategy.

What you forget is that the term Improvement is not clarified. NQ never uses improvement if a feature or game thingy is actually changed to make player experience better,

Improvement is only used when talking about cost effectiveness, server load, game stability, scrapping features etc.

In DU improvements Never produce a better gaming experience, 0.23 was their Best industry improvement.

Adding Talents was an improvement untill people noticed that the max talent was close to the previous "normal"and thus everything got downscaled and talents were needed to get back to previous levels.

Improved mining gave us mining units but before we had those i hauled in kilotons of ore per day on sanctuary alone, now abit less but thats an improvement? to whom.

In general we get limitations and improvements and all those do is scrap features or minimize them.

Honestly...there's no such thing as any game studio that has an objective understanding about what's fun or engaging in their game.

That's what happens when you spend 100s and 100s of hours making something...it's human nature.

That's why beta testing and player feedback is something professional studios care about!

Anyone that's ever worked in game dev (even a little) knows how easy it is to only see faults or to make big (and stupid in hindsight) assumptions about how players will play or what players will understand.

NQ's blanket unwillingness to read or engage with feedback (unless it is "balanced" with lots of compliments) is bad practice for any professional, but is especially dangerous in game dev.

Most devs are humble enough that they only see faults, but NQ seems to have the opposite problem. They only see good things, and are arrogant enough to think that they alone know what players want and that player feedback is therefore a waste of time.

Their CEO is a web3 fanatic obsessed with the metaverse...good luck getting him to ground the team in reality, buckle down, and fix things with the humility and focus this industry demands.

It sucks for the employees that have been let down by this self-defeating company culture, but sometimes people just can't learn no matter how many times a lesson slaps them in the face.

Well we do have to give them credit, they did listen to player feedback which is a constant complaint we have in them ignoring us. I do agree that the ability to pickup/throw down a mining unit for bonus calibration ore is pretty dumb. Instead, they should just have a reset switch in the UI that allows for it, that or as they did remove it.

I think why players are so upset is, when forced to play the game how it was "intended" to be played, it makes things only more tedious. So I think a lot of the blame/focus is on the wrong thing here. Communication will always be a weakness for NQ, and this will never change, only get worse with staff cuts, as we have seen since launch.

The real elephant in the room, is that you can't treat Dual Universe like a game or a fun side hobby, instead you must dedicate every dying moment of your free time to the game outside of work in order to participate on even a "casual" level and see what most players would consider reasonable progression.

It if plays like a job, feels like a job, and the compensation you get for your time feels terrible, then you are paying a subscription for... A JOB! 🤣

The real rub is asking the question as to why it was so prevalent now after the release? It's because NQ screwed us pretty good on the ore distribution. So we used the workaround we found because it's supposed to be a sandbox game and they outright told us it wasn't an exploit.

Now after the "working as intended" comment, they make the change out of spite and we all get our hands slapped because we were trying to get somewhere in this stifled ass economy.

Seems like every week they just keep digging this hole of player frustration and hatred. Begs the question who's gonna answer to those shareholders when there's no one left to sub? I already have a job, it's no where near as tedious as this activity that I'm doing on my recreation time is becoming.

This has serious alt mission running vibes where they said intended gameplay mechanic to later calling it an exploit and removing it.

To be fair.  They aren't calling it an exploit.  They just nurfed the crap out of it.

But it really sucks that they made the first statement.  And then went ahead and nurfed it without any warning.  I'm sure a lot of people bought and sold territories with the value being determined entirely based on that first statement.  And now the value has changed drastically.

Maybe i'm missing something, but i can't think of any reason that telling us ahead of time would have caused any issues.

Other than them hearing people's opinions on the subject.  Which they're hearing now anyway.

Yes Hi I'm here to agree with OP. This ruins the game for a whole lot of us, especially smaller orgs that were only able to get tiles with 2L/h of T2s or 3s.
Please reverse this change. You said that this is not an exploit. This makes industry and even a huge amount of income completely unattainable. Change this now

J.C. was also a metaverse fanatic and that's what he wanted DU to be. And DU was supposed to be the only thing NQ did.

Not anymore. Nouredine Abboud isn't here for DU, he's here to salvage tech for NQ's next project(s) and save the company. Clearly DU isn't it.

As I've mentioned before, Abboud has been explicit in hist posts in saying that NQ is working on more than one project. Because that's good leadership, splitting the team up to deal with likely NFT/Crypto BS even as the metaverse concept crumbles while your only other product that's been baking 8 years is dying.

Anyone that saw how that system worked and presumed it is fine seriously has an IQ barely above room temperature.

Did anyone?

Seriously.  I know people are invested in it now.  And mad that it's gone.

But did anyone think it made sense when they first heard about it?

This is the biggest issue. Small orgs get screwed by this change.

Oh look, yet another "balance" change from NQ that makes the game harder for casuals, solos and small groups, while also giving the larger groups much more power and profits now that they own all good tiles and pretty much have a monopoly on high tier ore, like happened with plasma over beta. Outstanding move! /s

Now, in December, they will give us pets and all sorts of costumes that were promised on the kickstarter.
And after half a year they will say - there is another project, we went there.
Thank you all for your attention.

Perhaps this is overly pessimistic.
But I have no other explanation.
It seems that DU for NQ is a suitcase without a handle. It's hard to carry and throw away. Shareholders and backers will not appreciate.
Here are the conditions for withdrawal.

This change is really a good thing.
Someone who really owns a flower of 7 tiles will finally be able to be rewarded for their investment.
On a flower of 7 if you only have one T2 / T3 or T4, you can do a calibration on each tile every 24 hours. This allows you to use 49 calibrations. Which makes a good bundle of ore.

And of course you actively participate in the game:
- You have to pay taxes like everyone else (which helps keep the price high for higher tier minerals)
- You must buy and install mining pods, so invest in several mining units and not just one.
- You are encouraged to go to outer rim planets to get tiles, and therefore either use cell warps or take the risk of crossing the PvP zone. This leads to interactions between players.

In short, only advantages for the balancing of the game with these changes.

Spamming something to several threads isn't really very good practice on Forums... Certainly doesn't make it any more true.

Its a very good fix IMO.  Its insane someone sitting on Billions of Quanta all from Safezone mining on a calibration charge bug/issue.  Clearly NQ took feedback from beta and saw the economy numbers shoot up to a worrying/conserning level so early on that they had to fix it or make it a priority fix.

High tier ores were supposed to be risk/reward and now we can still grab them from asteroids.  Honestly did people think it is totally fine via gamey gameplay?

Someone isn't paying attention. This wasn't an issue until NQ "released" the game. Even thought it was around for a year before. Seems it wasn't an issue until we started using it. They could have patched it out long ago.

This is about them straight up LYING to us about it calling it good and then "fixing it"

But now they gave us the stiff one because they have no Devs that can add meaningful content apparently. So we are getting spoonfed the same crap we had for years already, but just a tiny bit at a time to call it release content. The noobies won't know any better and the vets have all but left so they don't give a crap.

And then there's those that can't help falling all over themselves defending bad development. We see you and we laugh about how you must have lunch with the Devs once a week. I can just envision see them sitting in the front room polishing up their white internet armor.
