HEXTEK Announcement

Recommended Posts

After careful consideration and seeing the outpouring from the community, we have decided to remove our building. Make no mistake as this isn't HexTek conceding to those of you who have harassed, stalked and even threatened us. For our organization, we would rather put our efforts into enjoying the game and playing how we feel. We made sure that we were not breaking any of the rules set out by the developers however this seems to have been taken out of context and assumptions have been made about our build. Our organization would rather play and enjoy the game and not be chased out of every platform because of who we are. We do not appreciate the threats to our lives, the constant harassment, and the slandering. We certainly never had any intention to grief or cause undue hardship to anyone playing the game.

We would like to apologize to the NQ Staff who spent countless time dealing with this outpouring and helping to clarify the rules. We see no reason to have NQ's time spent on this rather than future development and possible content.

Thank you,

-Hextek

You don't need to remove your buildings entirely, just don't abuse your position right at the market by making anything within element range that can make a large amount of lag (such as a large amount of industry) and I'll have no complaints. Don't need to build 500 meter structures right beside the markets. Just build them within reason. In fact, if you use those tiles responsibly, you'll be doing the community a favour by not allowing someone who doesn't build there.

This whole issue pushed me a fair bit closer to the whole anti-safezone click. The ASA is a permeant safe zone for people just getting their start, Beyond that, people have to implement and uphold their own attackable safe zones. Nations and collectives should form to uphold and protect their interests. IIRC that was supposed to be how it was implemented.

I don't think we would have seen this outside the safe zone, players would have handled things themselves and NQ wouldn't even have to be involved, they could just shrug and say 'these are the rules'. Instead we got what we got out of this whole situation resulting in HEXTEK capitulating, and NQ shrugged, and said 'these are the rules'. They boxed themselves in real good with the community, they just can't get a single win in with us it seems like, and I don't envy that.

That said, I condemn anyone taking their in-game problems and turning it into real life threats.

Apologies for my tone but this post has really annoyed me. The Karen's here are entitled to cry and moan all they want but threats and harassment is an absolute f***ing no.

Please report any of these activities because these players needs to be gone.

This is not who the DU Community is, and I'm so disappointed in those who I thought of as friends, to act in such a belligerent manner against the staff and players.

This is every community online (these days), the 'DU community' is not some sort of coherent whole that collective follow a single moral direction.

@DekkarTV While the whole 'building' the wall thing was a 'D-move', people threatening your life is absolutely NOT acceptable. Please report this to NQ (via ticket) and depending on local laws, report it to local law enforcement with the NQ ticket number as a reference. While chances are good that 100% of the people making the threats won't ever follow up, you never want to be the exception to the rule! And maybe, just maybe NQ will ban them from DU and law enforcement will get seriously punished.

* Never did run into the wall, but almost ran into other ships twice, as that wall is funneling ships in a specific direction. My advise from Beta, is build low, not only does that make life easier for others, it also is better for yourself. If you need a platform for AG, build one (relatively thin) at the proper height and use the space elevators (check Horizon) to move between the ground and the platform.

I wasn't a fan of the building personally but, also wasn't totally against it. I see this as being NQ's fault for not Aphelia-ing all tiles within that 2KM airspace the rule mentions.
There's nothing we can do about that though, especially now that those tiles are player owned.

I said in discord, that I think a happy little compromise to this would have been to include a very large hole or area of empty space into the building's architecture at flight/landing level (about 150-250 metres from ground), which points directly in the mission path, large enough that at least S or M ships could fly through the tower itself at decent speed, without worry.

I think as a compromise this would be the best of both worlds. You get your tower, and the mission runners get to fly the most efficient path.
If anyone crashes into your building and complains after that, it's on their piloting skill.

Thank you, Sadly I never blamed you as you own the lot it's your rules not anyone else's. This was 100% NQ's fault for not padding their land correctly and their signs mean shit as that is government land not your land.

I hope you took the time and effort to log / record any info about people threatening you and reporting them to NQ. We can't have people like that existing in our game nor should you let them off because they only will continue to abuse and hurt other people in the same way and they should NEVER get a free pass in life.

Well, like I said before over Discord, while I do agree building obstacles right on a quite common flight place and putting down scrap for sale right where players would crash is a very sketchy and a-hole move, that doesn't justify going after someone in real life or threatening. This is a game, after all. Did right by reporting them to Twitch and NQ.

Other than that, my only opinion here is that since NQ already positioned themselves and decided that building on player tiles aren't subject to market rules, NQ should at least update the market screens with proper (hopefully clear) writing specifying what are the rules and when/how they apply. Being ambiguous is a terrible idea here.

Ohhh, when people told you to remove that shit tower that people was crashing into and even breaking NQ rules you just laughed at them and now you play the victim, nice.

Not their fault people aren't good at piloting their ships

I found the game plan very toxic. Getting all the tiles in the market where people come to do their main mission as fast as possible and then building a tower there to make people crash into it, that can only attract hatred.

Maybe we should question ourselves sometimes and consider the welfare of others instead of trying to stop it. I understand that as a streamer you have to create content and make people come to your channel, but the path of scandal and toxicity does not make the world a better place.

However, this does not justify IRL attacks.

These "Lern to fly!" comments are funny.  It's totally irrelevant to the discussion.  Just low hanging fruit.

Whether someone crashes into the building or not doesn't really change the fact that it was in the direct flight path of an incredibly popular mission.  People are running this mission repeatedly and it's in the way every time.

I ran the mission a few times with the building there.  And again, last night without it.  And it sure was nice not having it in the way.

There's no reason they can't build an awesome building there, that doesn't block the flight path.

If their intent wasn't to piss people off, then it sounds like they made the right decision, and now we can all move on.

This is 100% NQ's fault. I got tired of telling then that. It's pretty obvious that every market tile should be surrounded by 6 Aphelia's tiles.

They wiped everything and reset the terrain. Not was keeping them from doing it, but NQ frequently shows that they have a real problem learning.

The least I expect from all this is that all accounts from ppl threatening you are permanently banned.

Much like "Rule 34":  "If it exists, there will be porn on it"  there is the unwritten rule of the MMO: "If can be done, it will be done."

Look how JC envisioned it taking a month to get into space when in actual fact some players were off in 30 minutes or less. Players are resourceful, clever and sometimes wicked. lol.

IMO, NQ seem to spend far too much time fighting house fires when they could  have just installed sprinklers.

I've said it before and will say it again (hence the image) All they needed to do was create mini exclusion zones around each market... two or three hexes deep... not only would it clear up the absolute fustercluck that happens around typical marketplaces but would also give far more groups access to front row seats facing said markets.

But what do NQ do? Nothing more than foot-chasing after a horse that's not only bolted but has since been seen a dozen miles away running riderless along a motorway.

They create an arbitrary 1km height rule (damnit! this is why we can't have nice things)  and place misleading and outright confusing "2km" warning signs and make snarky comments aimed at their PAYING CUSTOMERS... Who though dissing paying customers was a good idea, srsly?

TLDR: This is a problem of NQ's own making: All they needed to do was create mini exclusion zones around each market... two or three hexes deep.
