From today's newletter .. NQ seems to not even know what DAC is about

And while we are on the topic of crowdfunding rewards: DACs are coming to Dual Universe! As many of you already know, DACs are an important feature of the game’s economy, allowing players to gain game time with quanta. We will initially be releasing a website-based DACs system in the coming months and will then be further developing the system moving forward.

No NQ..

DAC is what REPRESENTS the value of the pledge. It is not a reward, it is what you actually pay for.

DAC is also not an important feature of the game's economy as it is just a token which is a tradable item in game, allowing those who prefer to earn their game time in game to do so. It hardly plays a role in the economy by itself.

And while on the subject of value. WHat is going to happen with regards to the devaluation by roughly 50% from the pitch and value proposition presented on kickstarter and founder packages after you set the (current) subscription price at half of what a DAC originally represented. It may be time that you start informing us on how you will compensate for that loss, whether you intend to raise subscription cost at release and whether there is going to be different price points for DAC and straight gametime.

You claim to read every post NQ, so as you are reading this, at least acknowledge this and then provide us with a straight answer on this please.

So, what did NQ tell us about how they are going to compensate for the devaluation of the pledges @Bobbie

As that is what the quote you used is about ..

Suspect Bobbie was being funny. (And suggesting this as a topic for the podcast, which it is a good one.)

Reading the kickstarter, they explicitly state how many DACs you get. There are a few places they state the expected value of DACs, but I don't see why that would matter. At no point do they say you get "$50 worth of DACs". They state you get, say, "7 DACs", and in a few places give the expected value of that. Values can change over time, I don't see why that would requite the number of DACs to change.

e.g. "you get, among other things, 10 DACs, which gives you access to 10 months of play time after launch."

Note that their kickstarter also explicitly states that the price of a subscription and the price of DAC will be different.

I'd say "40 DACs (value:720€ post-release)" is pretty specific ...

DAC to me is the ability to give a friend the ability to try the game without them having to pay money.

It also gives those who value rl money more then rl time the ability to pay for the game.

There are people out there that will buy hundreds of dacs from nq so their friends can play.

Lol no there isn't.  DAC is already a thing in eve, it's called PLEX. And people don't do this.

Exactly, they say you get 40 DACs, and give an estimated value. Values can change, that doesn't change the fact you get 40 DACs.

Just read it again. It's "value" not "estimated value". Maybe they just forgot the word "estimated". But that's the kind of errors that lawers live on.

Just throwing it out there....but the "actual" value of DACs seems like a minor thing considering that they'll all become worthless if the game goes dark a few months after release.

Won't be able to trade them early on because no one will have enough quanta, yet there's little point in holding them to use for subscriptions, since I'm doubting they have 40 months of post-release runway left.

A lawyer would argue that a DAC isn't equivalent to game time, so their value is not simply equal to the value of a sub.

NQ can easily argue that the "value" of a DAC is 18€ because they aren't available for sale and they can be traded in-game for quanta. That makes them distinct from subscriptions and the value far less defined.

Granted...that idea does fall apart if NQ puts DACs for sale for less than 18€...

Also, lawyers will cost a lost more than the €240 paid for the KS...

Cut em some slack, it takes a long time to read over 5000 posts.

Not if you, as a companies community manager, spend 15-30 minutes each day doing so .. It's.. part of what should be your job ..

It's not like the volume of posts on this fourm is very high anyway ..

There is 4 community manager in the team as far as we know, inclusing Nyzaltar, that is 32 hours of time to allocate each day so, If one of the community managers does not have the responsibility to spend at least 30 minutes each day to catch up on forums, there's a whole different level of problems in that ..

No one has ever given plex to a friend?

Giving 1 plex in an emergency or something is one thing. He said "giving hundreds of DAC" which would be multiple thousands of dollars. And no one in EvE pays a friends sub forever just so they will play with them. It's not a thing.

It isn't likely, but it happens.

My former boss headed a mobile game company where their top customer spent millions on mindless micro-transactions. They bought so many that they had their servant spamming the buy button. For real.

$10,000 worth of DAC might seem absurd (and it is) but wealthy people buy absurd things all the time.

The DACs they don't give out they'd probably sell for quanta -- not a huge fan of the idea of people grinding quanta so that rich people can trade them game time...but that's how this works sometimes.

The modern way of p2w.

Win what exactly? DU, like EVE, does not have a 'win' condition... Pay to do What?

What this does is give people who are space rich and RL poor the ability to keep playing the game. And folks that don't want to grind, the option to not do that. Besides that, it means money for the developer, the RL 'rich' pay more so the RL 'poor' can play as well... Money for the developer means that the game keeps on existing and has room to develop... Theoretically....
