Just a friendly heads up and warning that those with alt accounts will repeat the imbalances from mission running their alts, and the economic gap between non-exploiting and exploiting players using alts is just gonna keep growing and probably wrecking the economy. Also don't expect alt account players to lose too many tiles... this will just impact those of us to play on a single account.

Are you ready to be placed at a further disadvantage?

Don't these people with alt accounts pay real world cash for this advantage?

Not if you have free beta keys to use... and by the time they pay for subs the damage is already done...

What else will there be to do once you finish scanning everything you can, getting your miners set up and gainingi ore for free, and jumping to your space stations in VR when the single pilot get to the stops? It takes like 5 seconds to pick up or drop off so if you are waiting for asteroids to pop on the weekends its really the only VR game in town with VR mining charges and using all the dead accounts in the game to do it.

Its an alt eat alt world out there im just VRing in it.

The beta keys weren't free, they were part of the kickstarter.  The silver pack was $60 and came with one key.

So how would you suggest NQ go about stopping people from using Alts?  If they wanted to.

They could ban more than one account playing from the same address.  But that would only stop family members and friends from playing together, and wouldn't actually stop most determined people from using an Alt anyway.

They could limit one account per bank account or credit card, but that would stop parents from buying accounts for their kids.  And again, wouldn't stop anyone from using an alt.

They could send Alt Enforcement Agents to every player's house, to verify whether there are one or two people in control of each account? or make us install some kind of nanny software that watches us play to make sure we aren't big bad cheaters😏

I think the problem is that any attempt to stop it, would cause way more harm than good.

All they could really do is make it slightly less accessible to the average person.

They could charge 10-100k per SU you want to travel via VR.

You could also make it so that VR uses 1 mining charge every time you use VR.

You could do both.

Alt game over.

  • You get free ore per month with auto miners
  • Double dipping with the mining mini game
  • Triple dip with VR mission Runs
  • Quadruple dip with asteroid runs every weekend via VR
  • Quintule dip with VR to run scans and use maneuver tool to move the ship to the next 3 tile cluster to scan.

one or all of those could be plugged if each of them used mining charges to VR since you get 208.6ish per month and charging a Quanta tax for VR. Beta keys are free play till launch and destroying the game from the inside out and something needs to be done about it.

People paying for monthly subscription, many who came later are paying for a "BETA" for them to have what we would have would need to pay about $18 or even more than that per month for 3 accounts to keep up with the people with free beta + 2 no subscription beta keys.

Even then some people traded in game stuff early on for more beta keys... a convenient little fact those who use them like to leave out... so you got people that got the pack same as use but at launch of beta collected 10-20+ more keys from others...

So don't even pretend everyone is paying the same... rofl

But that limits all players.  So someone with an alt still has the exact same advantage.  Everyone just has less.

And it's another tax, on everyone, not just people using Alts.

Any other ideas?

It only works until the game gets rushed to live in a year or less and the resulting wipe. Then if they want to pay 4 subs just to do the same thing its fair game to support NQ.

Works to do what?  How does it work?

That's just less calibrations for everyone, less ore for everyone.  They could also just lower the per hour rate on all the tiles.  Same result.

Less ore for everyone.  same advantage for anyone with an alt.

people should have to make the hard choices. Either you scan, mine, mini-game, mission run, or asteroid mine doing all 5 potentially at the same time is reduculous and sacrifices should be made to close loopholes and if you can just teleport to every planet and charge the MUs tht matter you get 208 per month. Besides you can totally side step the whole inefficiency thing by putting another couple MUs down to account for the production frops when with T5 talents you should have pre-qued if you werent a miner as soon as they announced the mining reset.

If you have multiple people you play with the losses arent so bad the more people you have.

I think you're saying that you're against being able to calibrate mining units in VR?

But the topic of this thread was Alts, remember?

Yeah actually I am against VR based calibrations.

For one it diminishes VR since every other use of VR has T1 Talents and even if you VR there with max charges T5 talents and enough charges to cover the drop in T1 mode you circumvent the whole reason of T1 talents. While mining in VR is T1, you cant fly a ship, you cant drop PDs, or anything but you can still take max advantage of the charge system. It opens up a whole can of worms why you cant do anything else in VR and at the end of the day it just turn into a Teleportation device in which case you might as well charge people a luxury tax for teleporting across the solar system to multiple planets to use their charges by the SU calculated for the priveledge of doing so since the efficiency drop dont really matter. Besides the teleport VR exploit came back when they Announced Demeter so there is that in play too.

It works with a single character (alpha) and also works with all three beta keys most people kept. So when im talking about 1 character im talking about the alts that compound into running missions, asteroids, etc you can position wherever you want on whatever planet you want and VR anywhere you want.

When the game launches they wont have these benefits, unless they pay for all these ALTs, so not sure of the problem.

They have no intentions on wiping the server/quanta when game releases.

Yea because I am sure people will be so happy to jump into a "fresh game on release" that already has all the wealth concentrated in the hands of few dedicated beta-testers that bought 30 warp beacon schematics for pennies during the "sales" period...

Right ?

I think all this depends on how big their marketing budget is. They will need to market to a player base so large that it justifies knocking out the work of all existing players.

And I think the marketing budget will be determined on how much promise they think the game has.

The game will not be ready, though, until it's playable-- meaning there needs to be conflict over territory and a reason to join organizations.

Naw all they need to do is bundle it with permium subs in a tier system and for every $5 more a month you spend you get an alt added to you account as an active player character and people will do it vs 5 subs at $6+ per month if you do the year sub.

The issue in my opinion isn't that "alts give you an advantage". That's fine. The issue (to me) is that you can make geometrically more money with more alts with limited additional risk/effort. That doesn't make sense for any game.

There's a lot of possible solutions to this -- the core issue is with the design of the mission system, so they should update that design...For example, randomize delivery destinations -- now you can't pile a bunch of people into one ship without it making a lot of stops, increasing effort and risk along with the reward.

And/or reduce the reward (a lot), but allow the use of warp to make it more accessible overall. Slow-boating is inherently a "nothing" mechanic -- there's no engagement or skill beyond flying outside the pipe, which isn't a real mechanic. The real mechanic is "go watch something while you fly".

"Oh but that would eliminate even more risk because of how warp works" -- sure, but that's a completely separate issue.

And therein lies NQ's biggest design flaws, that features don't connect cleanly. There's a mess of features and game rules and concepts....which don't drive gameplay depth or emergence at all. If you were to list every little mechanic in DU, it'd be a long and seemingly rambling list...a lot of complexity without a lot of depth.

The result is a game that's difficult to learn, but easy to master.

Of course the beta keys were free, even impltying that "you paid for them" is nonsense.

Backers have acces to the game at no cost up until release and so does anyone using one of their beta keys.

The backpacks were preorders for DAC, they all contain DAC with a value representing the pack's cost of purchase, at least they did up until August last year when NQ devalued them by 50% without asking and now reduced that damage to 30% by upping the sub cost.

Beta keys are perks/a bonus, which come with the pack, just like all the other extras.
