Element and voxel degragationand random failures

To add more immersion to the game, why not add in element and voxel degradation. Just like anything, the more it is used, the more likely it is to fail and need repair. Why not add this into the game for ships and elements. Also, to make repairs more interesting instead of having the whole element explode, why not add part failures, E.G a compressor part fails on the engine, in order to repair it you must buy the compressor part and replace it. Also, the more something is used the more it degrades, and eventually will become unreliable. E.G Engines and industry units.  You can also add an entire new section to industry of replacement parts.  These will need to be produced by players in order to repair anything. Voxels can degrade from heat damage on reentry to planets? This could also then add to a random failure % which would make people either always have spare parts instead of scrap or drive element sales on the market?

An interesting thought, and you are not the first to have it, but such usage degradation is a survival-mechanic that a lot of players are generally not interested in having. There are some to be sure, but most people don't want to have to take their starships in to get the oil and filters changed and the tires rotated every 50,000 km.
