Unless there is some miracle changes they have not told us about yet, 0.24 is a rather underwhelming "update"

Wallet

new plants, trees, rocks and soil

majestic jetpack changes

is about it ..

There is something very, very wrong with the dev pace at NQ.

removal of ALL BOTS:  ore purchasers and schematics.

I find it funny that this game is falling because of no new players and you want to make it harder of new players to make quanta.

There is a difference between more pain and depth.

But you guys seam to be a niche that enjoys pain.

And i have nothing against you, but you need to realize that most other ppl dont like it.

And the amount of pain in the game is one major reason why this game is dead.

Fight back how?

How about you have vehicles to defend with.  Because what is a person on foot going to do to a tank, a fighter or any ship attacking them?  Even if they had a gun.

It is something that can come later and not change a whole lot of things.

With the inventory/hammer space that characters have in this game, the level of manufacturing an individual has, and the grade of weapons we already have access to...

you would need need to be incompetent to be unable to take down an unprepared tank on foot.

To be fair most bot orders are already fulfilled so any new player cannot take advantage of them.  Most want bot orders gone because basically the ore is vanishing out of the game by being sold to them.  In theory more stuff could be made and more price wars on resources thus cheaper potential products etc.  A newbie benefits like that.

I guess they could sell at 17-18 each and still make a profit.

I think removing bots is a bad idea.  I'd say keep them limited to the sanctuary zones, though.  But honestly there needs to be a system for an enforced foundational level of economics, otherwise it turns more into an accountant and stock exchange simulator instead of a fun diversion from work.

Harder to fix fundamental issues with the economic model.

Either ore vanishes or money supply does -- hate to keep rehashing ye 'ole deflation discussion with currency supply, but that's what it comes down to.

Reality: NQ has no designs for the economy, for PvP, or for how the game's main "features" are supposed to work in general. People love to talk about what DU "will be eventually," but that future required planning....and they never bothered to plan out this game. Never.

It was all just a vague series of grand promises with players left to fill in the blanks.

This is the "Lost" of video games -- people are intrigued by the mystery of an intricate world built on a promise it will all connect...but the writers are just trying to stay one episode ahead and the house of cards inevitably crumbles when we all realize "there was no plan" all along.

Change my mind.

I do love Utopia station. Feels like a real hub of civilization not a museum at all.

I'm pretty sure there's something like that in DU Landmark, but in space. But does that really reflect the reality of the game?

reflect the reality of the game?  Its in the game, people are playing there, its lively... it's as real as any virtual space game in game asset can be... just like freeport, but in space.

not sure i understand your  "reflect the reality" comment, mate.

It was not meant in the sense you describe.

But more in the context that this spot in DU as such is unique and the empty 1 tile bases with their 5k towers adorn the actual landscape.

Therefore this hub does not reflect what DU is and consequently does not reflect the reality of the game as people find it when they play it.

I hope this is now clearer what I mean.

We have two orgs combining more than 6 hexes packed with constructs around Madis MP3 and roads and bridges stretching between them but yeah...by 5k, I presume you mean the height?

it's pretty sparse out there.. likely due to 0.23 player number massacre and the fact that ground building materials such as wood and glass have to be f'ken mined.. making them harder and harder to produce in vast quantities due to the declining ore densities and being needed for critical in-game assets such as engines, lasers and toilet seats.

Oh, and concrete being the same tier as space engines...

Reseed resources, isolate them to different planets, create scarcity, creates economic demand and a reason for combat.

  • RL example, the friggen middle east...
    • Now "carebears" have to ask for resources, market prices rise and stabilize
    • PVP groups can blockade resources forcing a political group reaction from player base.
    • People WILL complain, because now they "Have" to PVP or pay the people who do
    • Welcome to early civilization in space, now eat space-rock and deal with it!

I know I just sounded like a complete A to some people, but I hate sweets to be honest.

Nonsense!  There are also tons of creations which aren't at all sci-fi related.

A lot of your post makes sense :).  I do love your ideas.  Sadly dont think it will hit the game.  PVP as you said is ganking.  There needs to be a reason to PVP and I do agree there are too many 'safe zones'

PvP doesn't have to be ganking though does it?  You just need to design things so ships can be good at non-pvp roles while still being able to defend themselves properly against gankers.  DU should really be good at that as you can build your own ships and invent ship classes like 'combat hauler'.  If the game ends up forcing specialisation (with an energy system, say, which makes you take off guns in order to put on containers) then you get stuck having to fly a gankable ship in order to do non-pvp things and then you need a bunch of big safe zones because nobody likes to get ganked with no chance of fighting back.

Making the safe zones smaller won't magically make people go into pvp areas more often.  People stay in the safe zones because they don't want to get exploded.  Shrinking the pvp zones will just make people play in a smaller area or perhaps quit.  Want people to PvP more you need to give them more of a chance to win (or perhaps just to avoid loss while costing the attacker money).

We had a real good feeling of community down at the race track until a while ago, was kind of why I want to play this game at all. Wish the voxel integrity would get fixed. Having random holes in things is a bit of a turn off.

It is beyond all logic and reason how some "ship builders" (I'm being so.... so.... generous right now) have no clue what a pvp ship is in this game, or at least what armor is. What exactly do you mean by giving them more of a chance? No... if people actually learn to read they'd realize that you don't make haulers with no armor.. you don't want to use fancy voxelmamcy that does nothing to protect against bullets...  you don't fly in the pipe. I mean... just this last bit, in all my flying with naked haulers I never once encountered anyone simply because I never fly in the pipe. I know, just a personal example but... there are builders who have been in this game for way longer than me and they still have no clue. I don't get it.

Also not saying this system is perfect. Frankly it's a shit show. But... nah... giving them more chances is like trying to improve on stupidity.

I wish all T4 and T5 ore was in the pvp zone on asteroids only. No AGGs or rare engines for the guys that never leave safezone unless they are willing to risk a ship to get it. would instantly give the pvp scene a huge bump since everyone on alioth wants a multi core AGG RP carrier of some kind and has 0 interest in pvp to begin with. They dont need chances or better tutorials.. they need a reason to enter pvp space as well all need one

That's all fine and good and how it should be - but the problem is that PvP is awful and forcing people who already hate the mining grind into a mining grind in no man's land isn't going to prove fruitful.

Think about it - how do you envision mining in pvp space.

In EVE you had local and as soon as you saw a red - you warped to saftey - or you had alts logged in neighboring systems as an early warning system.

How do you do it in DU? You have someone sitting on the ship staring at the radar while someone mines?

JC has refused any consideration for automated defenses of any kind so mining these ores will never be a solo effort. Grouping activities are generally a great thing for a game - but the reality is that mining in pvp space in DU would be mindnumbingly dull for at least the person hanging out on the radar.

Never mind the elephant in the room - which is that pvp wouldn't actually happen. You see a hostile contact on the radar, you warp.

But most haulers do not have any weapons at all.  Although some in our Org do have haulers with weapons just 'in case' and it worked as they scared off a few people 'trying it'.  Then again we also escorted a few haulers the other day and had a skirmish.  I guess thats how I figured it should be no?  Want to mine, go mine.  Want to ring the ore back well be ready?
