[Serious] Dual Universe - NPC & Player Missions.

What do we know (see):

* Npc & Player mission
* Reputation System.
* Type: Haul, sell, taxi, Buy, Sos, PvP, Other
* Visibility: Public/ ?
* Timed missions
* Timeout: Taken missions that were not completed ?
* Multiple players can take the same mission, 1st come, 1st served i guess.

Hmm, seeing the screenshots makes me wonder for a lot of things:

 

- how would be the payment handled? 'bring me to the moon' - ok, do I pay before and the guy jumps off without me? Or he brings me to the moon but how does the system decides that the mission is completed? I could deny the payment here or if it is bound to a waypoint - just jump off the transport?

 

- 'haul my stuff' - oh boy this will be a slaughter - how does the system check if I even have the capacity to hold the stuff at the destination? Container full and the mission is not able to complete, is what I see here. Not to mention that I don't see any secure payment for my stuff. In eve most hauling missions are a scam for a reason. I expect a lot of 'dirt hauling' will be seen in this part of the mission system.

 

- there is no game I know off which could pull of a working bounty system. Every bounty system will be exploited to no end and is a wast of time in my opinion.

 

- the npc missions - hmm not sure here, might be ok but if it is worth with element damage has to be seen. 

 

- the 'first in first pay' could be interesting - still this needs real well thought mechanics to function. Otherwise it will be just a 'wait for your target game' - but still it looks interesting.

 

 

to be honest I could go on and on here and seeing that 'an eye for the detail' is not quite the strong suit of DU I hope they explain the system before they patch it into the server. So we could maybe discuss the do's and don'ts as a community.

My main concern is about "first in first pay", I mean the missions themselves looks promising but they have to be enough for everyone, so... thousands of them and basically everywhere, I don't wanna either travel to the other side of the system to be 308th in line or skip them completely because "someone else will make it first".

 

For the objectives just look at other mmo, escorts might be bound to specific coordinates, not like "bring me to the moon", more like bring me to x, y and z and you're done once you get there.

Bounty might works around NPC ships.

Hauling missions are probably the easiest, the more material you haul to the other side the more money you get.

Based on pervious interviews/AMAs, there will be no checks on the first version of the system for player jobs, just a UI for listing and managing jobs manually. And the final version will have more automated completion checks somehow.

Beyond colleteral, I have very low expectations on initial implementatation level. It likely be totaly un-balanced, full of exploits and bugs, with early grinders cutting good money with little effort (abusing weak spots), until NQ slowly fix something. So far NQ not done anything in major features list right from fist try. Good if I'm wrong.

Yup, "first iterations" are always pretty bad as we've seen

 

It will be hilarious to watch the "yuuuuuuuuge" pvp patch. Getting my popcorn ready

Looking at the third screenshot (the one with the mission created) there is no indication for a collateral. The Icon might indicate it is a corp only mission, but why would you need a hauling mission within a corp?

 

Let's hope this is all just an early sketch of the system and shows how it 'could' work and not how it 'will' work.

Let me rephrase:

We will make a system that never worked in any other game because it was exploited to hell and not even try to make it work for now.

Later we will join the crowd that tries to make impossible things to work and hope for the best.

well, with the numbers falling since initial Beta launch and again after the scematic patch and the kill individualisme update maybe this system will help some players to get back in business. However, if the system needs players to actually do stuff off-planet and they cannot build or buy spaceships. hmm. Lets see this :D

Seriously.. I am trying really hard to think of any game feature that had moved past initial first iteration and actually been improved so far in this game. Industry is the only thing from the top of my head that got a second iteration, but was it an ehh.. improvement? Everything else has just been very minor changes on the initial feature. Please correct me if I am wrong.

if you can't get a ship together and off a planet it's entirely your refusal to put in any effort at all.

I guess you dont have any quanta bugs ore other stuff and everything works perfect since day 1?

I was talking about new players with only a hover and stuff like the Quanta bug and such.

That player can still mine and sell to bots. It takes very little upgrade to the starting speeder to get into space. This argument of the poor lone newbie is the weakest of all. That poor lone newbie is likely to reach out for help or join an org. Even if they don't there are plenty of resources between discord , youtube etc on what few pieces you need to get your little ship into orbit. If you have the quanta bug which I assume you mean your not getting daily welfare that sucks, but that doesn't mean you can't do anything while you wait for NQ to fix it.

Its fake. Indeed. I am teaching some newbies for 1month+ what mistakes not to make. Best In Slot player is 1 dude who reached M core AGG-S 10 Containers Hauler Tri Scanner in exactly 11 days since his day one (post 0.23). Now its even easier. Im helping and boosting two dudes with mining contracts and they are close to M Hauler soon. :)
