How will lock on target work?

How will small ships be able to take on larger ships that's able to hold larger weapons with greater lock on distance? Small ships won't be able to get close due to auto locking and firing which will always be direct hits.

Will manual firing be a thing down the line once the game become more stable?

Will there be ways to jam lock on sensors?

Small ships actualy have the advantage here.

The larger the radar, the farther it can lock

The larger the target, the farther it can lock

No manual fire is planned.

NQ has expressed desire to improve detection mechanics. And has mention something close to jamming mechanisms. But nothing for the near future.

How does smaller ships have advantage? Large ships has larger turret that can dispatch smaller ships (strike craft) with ease due to auto lock which the weapon will always hit its target. Basically with auto target, players has to build bigger ships with larger health pool to remain in the fight. It all comes down to who has higher health pool and better weapon stats.

Oh god no please.  At least not if its anything resembling eve.  ECM was broken for years, still is.  And an over-all terrible experience.

Smaller ships can have big weapons and big radars. Shooting at greater range.

If the ship has better acceleration and enough ammo, it can keep firing always out of range to be fired upon.

To amplify:

An XS ship can have an L radar. The same radar as an L ship. The XS ship can have L railguns. The same guns as an L ship. It's hard to squeeze it all into the package, but it can be done with a skilled shipwright and toons with placement bonuses. So the XS ship can lock the L ship out at the max range of the railguns. The L ship will have to wait til the XS ship is at 1/8 the range before it can lock the XS. If the XS ship has better acceleration it can keep the L ship in its targeting envelope while remaining out of the targeting envelope of the L ship, until they're bingo fuel or ammo and need to RTB.

This is the "current meta", AIUI, for high end PvP. I hope to heck it changes, because it's really boring.

I hope they do it right, because EWar has to be a factor in a technological warfighting scenario for it to remain plausible.
