This should not be mandatory. 

Discord is intrusion program that reports several private status, like the game you are playing or if you are online, also requiring registration. 

 

Server uptime and load status could and should be displayed on a simple https url.

you can disable the "what game" your playing feature in discord, and you can set your state to "invisible" show it won't show you online but you still have access to all the features.

Server Status is a great idea

I do when they work, but I have seen those same systems be buggy and broken for various reasons over the years for different games. As far as I'm concerned as long as there is someway to check and it works; then its okay with me. 

 

Last oasis uses a discord bot for server stuff and it works. But they also have a good community relations posting the same info to twitter and such. I say just go with what works for the system. In this case I would say a discord bot or a website script. either would work.
