Regarding Subscriptions

So I'll cut straight to the chase here.

Why is there no single month sub plan?

I can understand wanting a bit more money or perhaps supporting players who only want to play maybe 2-3 days a week. But as someone who is incredibly skeptical of any Dev who operates outside of a distribution platform that has well known purchase security it bothers me that I can't test drive the game for a short period to determine if it hits that itch that attracted me in the first place.

If I may offer a suggestion, if you are so inclined to not have a recurring 1 month subscription then perhaps consider offering a "once per account" 1 month trial subscription so people like myself can determine if the quarterly sub is worth it or not to us. I'm not asking for a freebie, merely suggesting a more enticing approach to bringing in more cautious consumers like myself.

Until there is something like this or a solid monthly subscription I can't (currently) in good conscience buy into this service.

I would agree with you if this was a finished stable product.

But right now, ppl getting a subscription are not getting it because the game is great and flawless.

They are making a bet that this game will become great and flawless.

They are submitting them selfs to bugs, lack of performance, unwanted restarts to have a head start on a game that can become grater then EVE.

On this scenario what would be the point of a trial?

That is a fair point, but it still allows an easier entry point. A lot can happen in a month to sell an individual on a project. After having been lead here by BigFryTV I was under the impression that it would be monthly subs. But the truth is that when he covered it they had confirmed the price per month but were still building the subscription plan.

Now if we are following the general definition of a Beta:

'Beta' is a standard term to denote a milestone release during production in which game functionality is included and optimised (but may have bugs), game content is finished (but may have some implementation errors), and which is considered nearly complete.

This would indicate that now is an excellent time to be drawing some people and building hype.

Unless however the content is not there and they are misusing the word "beta" like so many Early Access developers on Steam seem to do. From what I've heard however, the content is there and this appears to be a proper Beta.

I am real interested in this as i have been watching development for several years but i don't want to get a 3 month subscription just to find my PC won't run the game. If there is no trial available i won't be subbing for 3 months just to find this out, a one month sub would be more acceptable but a free week would be even better just to check it sets up and runs OK. If it works i would certainly be getting a 1 year subscription.

But it would be good to have one month option, even if it was 10 USD. I would love to try the game, but try for 20 USD isn't the case for me.

Hi there,

i can only speak of myself on this point, so please do not consider this a personal attack.

Actually NQ promised two beta keys to invite my friends. Unfortunately, this didn't work and now the website says that my keys have been used, but none of my friends have been given access to the game. So I quickly logged into their accounts stealthy and gave all three a 3 month subscription.

It's not a big expense for me, I spend so much money on clutter that it is definitely worth playing time with my friends.

Again and again I see people who spend € 300 at a party on weekends just to buy alcohol, but then complain about € 10 or € 20 because it's too much.
In this case, I see the € 20 as an investment in a project that is very enthusiastic and has a lot of potential.
Sure, there is always the risk of losing 20 €, but with AAA titles that are more bad than right nowadays, hardly anyone asks about it but simply buys.

Long story short:
I think, if you are really interested in such a game (which currently still has bugs and frustrating elements. You should be aware of that!), € 20 is not too much to watch the game.

The reason they (NQ, in the person of CJ Baillly, the head honcho, IIRC) gave, in a video, somewhere, for requiring 3 months investment up front for the "Beta" was to put off those who would pay 7-10 bucks to come in, litter the place with abandoned constructs and then quit after a week. They wanted people who were prepared to stick it for the long haul, and felt that 20ish bucks was a good price point to set.

I make no comment on the legitimacy or effectiveness of this approach, merely report what has been publicly released.

There is, somewhere, a roadmap of the planned development. They were sticking to it quite well, for a sequence and going for Beta with pretty much the feature set they said they'd hit with. I suspect the problems with scaling that they're encountering will push the actual months out, but the sequence of additions probably isn't going to change much.

At the moment, I would estimate that I'm getting more than 7 bucks' a week entertainment out of the game, but I also do not judge that someone starting out solo at this stage would get anything much more than frustration. This may go away soon (tm) if they can get a handle on the server issues; come back in a week :)
