balou20
Hey guys, Im looking for a new gaming monitor anf im torn between the new (ish) LG 24GM77 and the BenQ EX3203R. Both are similar in price and both are 144hz. There doesnt seem to be many reviews for the BenQ kicking about, so im here asking you guys for advice. If its at all relevant I use an R9 290 gpu Thanks
Kuritho
Depending on your budget, definitely the BenQ. It has every single advantage apart from a rather unwieldy size. Your GPU, however, may not be able to run it as its fullest potential.
Eld0r
yeah, for gaming make sure the resolution match your desired quality settings. 144 Hz without enouth fps from GPU is not worth it. Also note the difference in display size! 24" / 32" To begin with: you picket two very nice monitors! tl;dr: Would say it's mostly a matter of taste if you want a bigger screen with more resolution and a VA-panel -> BenQ EX3203R (2018) or a bit more economic with a TN-panel and lower latencies -> LG 24GM77-B (2014) Personally would prefer the LG. Tests (german, but very detailed): LG 24GM77-B: https://www.prad.de/testberichte/test-monitor-lg-24gm77-b/3/#Blickwinkel BenQ EX3203R: https://www.prad.de/testberichte/test-benq-ex3203r-allrounder-auf-hohem-niveau/4/#Blickwinkel Legend✔️positive / ❌negative / ➖neutral / * structured / personally pay attention to Both: ✔️ 144 Hz ✔️ flickre free backlight / no PWM ✔️ mat display, less reflections ✔️ >400 cd/m² brightness ✔️ Display Port LG 24GM77 (~330€) ➖ 24" Plane, Full HD 1920 x 1080 (matter of taste) ➖ TN-Panel * * (➖ contrast 921:1 - very good for a TN-panel tho) * (✔️ full subpixel switch times @DP, 144 Hz, overdrive 'high': B/W 4.5 ms, GtG 1.6 ms, CtC 2.8 ms,) - prad measurement methods * (✔️ half visible change in pixels, not fully switched, average time: 2 ms) - prad measurement methods ✔️perfect optimized overdrive without brightness rash, always use 'high' (max) on this monitor ✔️ Input Lag: 1.4 ms --> total latency: 3.4 ms (wow!) - prad measurement methods ❌ no FreeSync ➖ color reproduction (default settings): good ✔️ Backlight homogeneity good ✔️ power consuption: max 29.7 Watt @140 cd/m² (1,5 cd/W)➖ Connectors: DP, 2x HDMI, DVI, VGA, 1xUSB 2.0 in, 2xUSB 2.0 out (sound only through DP / HMDI)➖ Cables included: VGA, DVI, USB, power supply ➖ since 2014, bit old but good BenQ EX3203R (~451€) ➖ 32" Curved, QHD 2560 x 1440 (matter of taste)➖ VA-Panel * * (✔️ Contrast 2850:1 ) * (✔️ full subpixel switch times @DP, 144 Hz, overdrive 'premium': B/W 10 ms, GtG 7.2 ms, CtC 9.2 ms) - prad measurement methods * (➖ half visible change in pixels, not fully switched, average time: 7 ms - very good for a VA-panel tho) - prad measurement methods ✔️optimized overdrive with minimal brightness rash, always use 'premium' (max) on this monitor ✔️ Input Lag: 5.2 ms --> total latency: 11.2 ms (even good enouth for fast ego shooters) - prad measurement methods ✔️ FreeSync (≥48 Hz or FPS) + HDR-400 ✔️ color reproduction (default settings): very good ❌ Backlight homogeneity could be better, edges visible on black screen ✔️ power consuption: max 56.1 Watt, 24.4 Watt @140 cd/m² (1,6 cd/W)➖ Connectors: DP 1.2, 2x HDMI 2.0, DVI, VGA, 1x USB TypC in, 2xUSB 3.0 out, 3.5mm out➖ Cables included: HDMI, DP, USB TypC, power supply ➖ since 2018 comment: Just finished typing and realized I already know the LG 24GM77-B test. lol Was my favorit I wanted to buy years ago. xD ..or still will after finishing the studies. ^^
balou20
Thank you very much for your reply. I listened to your suggestions, I finally chose BenQ EX3203R. Of course, I saw an article about it, I think 144Hz with FreeSync 2 is very suitable for me.
Peter_Bruce
To be honest, I always preferred LG, but this is purely subjective.
