Basically, mass-;rodiced parts that can be used to later assemble ships/structures. Think ISS, where seperate parts became one station - instead of manually building things on a structure/ship, you just attach a ready component. Same would be with ship hulls/engine bays/armaments - weld a ready-made piece to your heap of junk and fly.

Thats what blueprints are for. You can use them to manufacture multiple copies of the same item making them ideal for producing modular items.

 

Its also what DUs Elements are all about - modular items that can be added to a construct to perform various  functions,  from engines to cockpits to doors to forefields to shields etc etc etc.
