Does anyone have recommendations for games similar to Dual Universe? Not no man's sky and not something over 40 dollars. Thanks!

Eve Online (http://www.eveonline.com) and Space Engineers (http://www.spaceengineersgame.com) are probably the closest games.

If you like space travel and building rockets, you also have Kerbal Space Program (https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/).

If you like the lua scripting aspect of the game, try screeps (https://screeps.com).

I also like Empyrion (http://www.empyriongame.com).  It is similar to Space Engineers with more survival aspects.

I also have Empyrion and Space Engineers plus  Kerbal Space Program and Osiris: New Dawn and a few others I really enjoy playing Sci-Fi games and lately it seems like its just getting better! If I had the time and money I would probably have my own YouTube show and make a few games of my own !  =)  But my family life for now doesn't give me enough time to try that out but I do enjoy being a Alpha and Beta tester and in the old days you could even get paid to play !  Right now DU is the  game I am into but if you have the time and maybe Steam just hit Sci-Fi and a lot of games will pop up just remember to do a little research before you buy , check out the reviews and the game play and keep in mind what you like and it should help you decide easily ! 

 

If anyone is interested in maybe testing out other Sci-Fi genera games here is one me and my friends or trying and remember to do your homework on ANY game be for you buy !  =)

If you're interested in a game that only takes place in space and has a very detailed building system, Avorion might be up your alley.

MMO (single shard, player driver market, etc): Eve online . Try it F2P.

sp or coop MP: Empyrion (way smaller universe but for the price it can give you a lot of fun, excellent value for money).

If you're looking for the combat construction and engineering aspect, there are several games to try:

 

From the Depths - single player (or de-sync multi) in-depth vehicle building and combat.

Crossout, Robocraft - much less engineering (still some), much more fast multiplayer shooter.

Planet Nomads, Planet Explorers, Astroneer, Eden Star - single player/coop, but you have both voxel terrain and vehicle building.

I'd say Eve online, space engineers, Planet explorers. That said you could also look into entropia universe which is free to play kind of. With entropia it can get expensive though depending on what you want to do in game.
