Will territories and outposts be subject to hacking/stealing?

Was wondering after seeing the trailer for territories and outposts and being able to set permissions on who can enter a particular area, is there a counter game system where you can take up hacking skill and be able to play as a thief?

Yes, they want to implement mechanics like hacking so that you can switch ownership of tiles. Maybe in conjunction with other mechanics (as for example you need to have an occupied tile right next to your target). Such is far away still and we have to see with what mechanic they end up using

To clarify, this is something that has only been mentioned in passing by JC and the dev team, so it may or may not become a feature at some point.

My main concern with any type of "stealing" mechanic is how difficult it is to balance in instances of asymmetrical warfare (which will be most pvp situations in DU within a couple months after release), so such a  system might not be a good idea. But I trust NQ to make the right decisions.

When you can only hack outposts / ships, when you are near the core, then that wouldn't be such of a problem, because when you can reach the core, then that means you have overcome the defence systems and could potentially destroy the whole thing, so why shouldn't you be allowed to capture it instead?

Because it's bad gameplay if the tiles switch ownership too much. You claim a tile, and when you can't defend it anymore you lose it.

Having your tile, containing the core of your gameplay, items and in-game activities, switch ownership multiple times because of cat-and-mouse, cloak-and-dagger, ninja gameplay is just vexing.
