Glowtape
I've watched the early videos where they build a base and then a large spaceship. The asteroid seen seems rather small. Is there any information yet how territory control works on these? Will they be claimed in their entirety? In pieces, too? In any case, I take it there's the same 1km build ceiling soft-limit? I suppose these would be the basis for a space station then?
NanoDot
There is currently no mechanism in DU to claim a random volume of space. NQ have said they will consider those mechanics at some point after launch, but no promises were made. Territory control units (TCU) can only be deployed on bodies that have been divided into hexes by the game systems (planets and probably moons). Asteroids presumably will not support this, because they have irregular shapes and will therefore be very hard to equally divide into hexes. But you could probably "claim" an entire asteroid by placing a few large static cores. Space stations won't be able to "claim" a volume of space, they will be constructed by placing many large static cores. Shadow
Enjoyvirtuallife
As a person who have not played (pre) Alpha or such, so excuse me if Qs sound stupid: how to maintain "claimed" territory? Just with those TCU's? Those TCU's can be destroyed? If yes you, loose your territory / building area? What can happen with 'your' territory, once you logout? That TCU only lets you decide (through RDMS) who can build there and several other things 2. yes they can be destroyed an you lose the RDMS part of that tile. If that also means that you lose your constructs there (as owner, not physically) has to be seen 3. it can be attacked, destroyed, invaded,... you need automated base defences (which aren't that strong) and a protection bubble to secure it. Or pay people. Or....be in an Org

Because, as said above, it will take large static cores in space, but if this is not possible, it means that everyone can change the structure, outside the group itself? It's too soon for space "tiles", but in order for them to work you'd need anchoring (a space Station, a tcu,...). If tiles are 1km again, it's very small compared to the vastness of space but it's sufficient for a station. Maybe they go without "tiles" and only let you directly Set permissions in the core (as said in several Videos) on Stations for example so only a Few can edit

However, this doesn't solve the problem of asteroids, random objects of random size in space, and how to claim them. I'd say just let people place a TCU and claim the whole asteroid, or split it in two depending on size and what not. Asteroids obviously won't fit for the system of spherical bodies claimed in hexagons, so make the claiming easy.
CoreVamore
Could just have a static space tcu that has a 5km radius. can only be placed in space and/or on/in space bourne objects like asteriods etc. Needless to say such a tcu would be static..
