Bonjour.

First please could you formulated your ideas in english please, after all this is an english forum.

Next i can see where you coming from and i think its a cool idea (as far as i can understand it thanks to google translate), which is already mostly adapted by the Terran Union, with the slight difference that the TU is some kind of federal parliamentarian monarchy instead of a pure democracy.

You are welcome to make you a picture of us on your own here is the link: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/714-terran-union-tu-pvpve-recruiting/

And please write next time in english so that everyone can understand you.

ya know, translate did a pretty good job with this one

"I agree. One of the few times it actually gets an accuracy score above 90%.

To the "english please" folks : sorry not every one can read write or understand this language, this must not be a barrier blocking DU to become internationally viral imo.

To the "english please" folks : sorry not every one can read write or understand this language, this must not be a barrier blocking DU to become internationally viral imo.

Yes not everyone can, but neither can everyone understand french and the most people can understand at least a bit english, because its more or less the universal language of the world and as far as I know a part of the education in the most parts of the world. In todays world if you want to participate in things that are international you should at least understand english and use google translate on the own end instead of forcing it onto others. If I would write german in an english forum, I would expect to get ripped into pieces, because I don't adjust to the others. And just because the Devs are french doesn't mean that you should write also in french, because that makes it even more difficult for others that have english already as second language. (I don't mind if you write your org description in another language if you want to build an org that is using this language, but don't expect that I will negotiate in this language with you.)

But hey if you want to stick with this statement I will instantly begin to write in the language i'm most comfortable with, german.

So my whole point here is simply that it is more pleasant for all of us here in the forum if we stick with one language to formulate our ideas instead of many.

I agree: "ensembles" will gather over time, organically and spontaneously, and will define their borders and laws on the run. To lock all those initiatives in little boxes from the start can only beget dissapointment (usually to the one building the box, actually).

I'd have to agree with Darius on this one. When posing an idea to the masses on the forum, I think it'd be a good idea to at least do your best at translating the post into English, whether through Google Translate or through your own knowledge, or both. While understand French, a vast majority of the people on the forums do not. However, most, if not all of the people on the forums know at least enough English to get their points across and to understand others. Besides, it makes things easier to have one uniform language everyone can communicate in; it makes your posts easier to understand at a face value.

Well, that is the point of this guy, he is only addressing to french speaking ppl for his project. He don't want international cooperation.

I can guess this is so because its simpler when you cannot understand english, to stick with folks speaking your native language.

I understand your point ofc, but, as much as you want to believe English to be "universal" this is not an absolute truth.

This guy must not be the first, and won't be the last. If the existing small community is filled with hatred each time this happens, the game won't grow as fast as it could be.

Non english speaking communities should be allowed to thrive in Dual Universe. (and the forums)

This is NQ decision in the end of course ;)

Well that is totally okay with me, but then please at least a disclaimer in english like "This is an idea for a french org" or something like this and not throwing simply in an idea with which it isn't clear for who it is meant.

My main problem with this is unclearity, not the other language per se, building communities in other languages is totally okay with me, but i don't like it if it isn't marked and i think at some point in the future NQ will need to seperate the forums for different languages.

don't play the drama queen, there is no hatred just because people point out that you should speak english in an international forum.

And while English might not be universal in the sense of most spoken language, it certainly is the universal language of science and the digital world, just look at the vast majority of coding languages and science papers.

Especially in small communities as dual universe its important if everyone can participate in discussions and read whats written (no one would care about subsections for specific languages if there are thousands of actice community members), so keep it in english.

Sadly, what is, and what is felt by those coming here for the first time may differ.

Also, you can decide English is universal all you want, this wont make a vanilla 17yo french guy understand it more. Thanks to our "outstanding" Education Nationale ... *cough cough*. In fact I believe the same applies in many country. This is the reality I understand and witnessed.

Some ppl will come, speaking what the h*** they want, will you be mad at them each time ? what image of the community will be passed to the newcomer ?

While I understand your need to read and check every bit of text posted here, if you want the community(aka early player base) to grow, another strategy should be implemented than "english please".

If you are calling me a drama queen for voicing this opinion, then, we have not the same definition of such term clearly :)

1)I think you misunderstand; no one here is angry at the OP. We simply believe it would simplify things for the rest of the forum go-ers to speak in English

2)No one is implying that EVERYONE will speak/understand English perfectly. However, English is very prevalent in many countries in the world, and thus regarded as a universal language.

3)You weren't called a drama queen for voicing your opinion. you were called a drama queen for the manner in which you did so. Your posts on this particular topic all seem rather... aggressive, for lack of a better word and as such people might respond in a certain way to them. (this is my opinion. I can not speak for vylqun)

every 17 year old who uses the internet should be able to use google translate to at least tell the community that the following post is only directed at people speaking some specific language, because then the others know it doesn't contain content for a general discussion but merely some generic things, thus sparing them the effort to use google translate.

Some ppl will come, speaking what the h*** they want, will you be mad at them each time ?

i don't know why you keep saying that, no one was mad, there were just neutral reminders to use english. And no, what what darius wrote could in no way be seen as offensive or angry, he just reminded that person and then commented on his idea.

If you are calling me a drama queen for voicing this opinion, then, we have not the same definition of such term clearly  :)

yes, you are a drama queen if in your opinion a simple reminder + positive ontopic-discussion is hatred, thats exactly what a drama queen is :)

Just because some francophone's disregard other languages, doesn't make the sentence "please use english in an international forum" an insult or "hatred-comment"

Amicalement.

It seems you are not able to comprehend my point and we are stuck to repeat mode.

ridiculous.

Just admit that you had a shitty attitude, there's no harm in doing that. Trying to claim i wouldn't have understood you when i clearly adressed each of your points only makes you look worse.

Maybe those of us who only speak English should be happy that these forums aren't French language only...

I suppose we could have different language sub forums so we don't scare any of our more xenophobic English speaking players.  But honestly tagging a post with the language it's in seems fine to me.

People should post in whatever language they want.

@Atmosph3rik

that might be ok for big forums with thousands of active people, but in DU we have less than 40 people actively writing in the forum, if everyone writes in his native language then we will probably have 5 persons per language (we have english, french, german, russian and probably italian and others too), its just not possible to have good dicsussions by doing so, we'd be far to fractured. Thats why its important for small forums to have a common language.

If DU grows bigger then there is absolutely no problem with using other languages than english, preferably in the proper subforums, because then we will still have hundreds of people per language which enables us to have good discussions. It'd be completely fine.

Sadly that isn't the case yet, so its preferable to keep it to one language, and if someone wants to write something in a different language concerning the community or anything not DU-content related, then he should at least give the other people a hint in english.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to make this reply both in English and in French to avoid any misunderstanding.

-----------------------

Cordialement,

Nyzaltar.

-----------------------

Hello Citoyen and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.

It's probably unclear for new comers, but as the forum - for the time being - exclusively in English, there is an implicit rule about trying to post topics in English, to be polite towards others. On the forum, there are people for which the mother tongue is Spanish, German, Polish, Russian or French and they all make some efforts to post in English, even if they are not comfortable by doing so. We can totally understand that some are not fluent in English but in that case, there is still the possibility to translate the text in English by Google Translate (even if the result won't be perfect).

From the beginning we have encouraged that all the community members speak with each others, regardless of their country. That's why when someone come on the forum to say "I'm posting a topic just to talk to those who speak the same language as me", it's understandable that it could be seen by other members as unfriendly and impolite. As others have made efforts before you, we can't favorize anyone.

There will probably be dedicated forum sections for each language mentioned above in the future. But as the game will be exclusively in English for the Official Release (game localization in other languages should come after the official release), we prefer, at least for the time being, keep the forum according to the game regarding the spoken languages.

We hope you will understand our position.

Best regards,

Nyzaltar.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bonjour NQ-Nyzaltar !!!

---

Hello, no it's not surprising even more it's legit and make sense. What's surprising it's once again see in 2016 Frenches unable to speak / read English and refuse to understand that it's the international language. Make an effort pending a 'French speaking' section one day maybe, it's called respect, no offense ofc.

As a greek, I can relate to your sentiment. It's 2016 and many a greek of my age can't speak english.

For the record, I can understand french, I got exposed to it in my early years so I learned to compensate in my brain with english/italian/latin words to make sense of it. But I can't figure out how french can't speak english ( WON'T speak is another subject). English and French are practically the same, English is like dampened down french. :P
