Kind of cool that we even can make a mini game inside the game it self !

I agree. Very, very promising with crazy potential. There will be people that play Dual Universe for the games within it.

Totally.

We are getting the tools to create real content. I'm so happy and excited. I had no interest in scripting Lua but the potential of these screens changed that. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do with them.

Yeah those screen elements look interesting. Though can see potential abuse with them as putting in offensive and NSFW words and phrases.

people being offended by some written words on a display in some corner of the world in an mmorpg? Sry, but people who are so whiny, that they can be offended by such things, are better off not using a computer at all^^

If you read my other posts and convo with other posters you'd see my concern is more about NQ having to waste time and resources monitoring stuff that can be done. Not going to repeat it all but bottom line the freedom we all love and why we flock to these games comes at a cost sometimes.

Can we get bigger versions of the screens and perhaps make the background transparent so I can basically have flat holograms floating in space?

You know this is going to be used for billboards, people are going to have these everywhere advertising their shop or org or whatever.

Limiting displays to SVG is smart move, it's still immensely powerful but it makes a bit harder to put porn into the game :D

yes, my answer was implying that i don't think it has to be regulated in any way.

Once again, everyone is thinking about what they want, rather than what needs to be done to make the game a success.

There will have to be censorship of certain content because actual real-world countries have laws about what kind of media you can promulgate. So, if there are giant billboards flashing the swastika or other Nazi propaganda, NQ could potentially face fines, or even the banning of DU, under German law. The same could be said for statements that are racist, homophobic, anti-immigrant, or whatever, in countries like France or Great Britain, or under EU hate-crime laws.

Personally, I don't really care. Internet trolls don't bother me much. But there are people with real power in the real world who feel differently. Furthermore, it will not be good for DU to become known as a game filled with racists and haters (which is what people will say if there's swastikas everywhere, regardless of the intentions) because then the vast majority of people won't play it. That is bad for the game for obvious reasons. I'm sure the next comment will be someone ranting about how they don't want to play with people who can't take constant Hitler jokes, but in reality a game like DU needs a decently large player base just to have a functioning economy. This isn't about you, it's about having a successful game, so get over yourself.

Tl;dr - There will be censorship, and that is a good thing. Your precious feelings can get over it, because DU is a game, not a free speech simulator.

This Devdiary is really amazing news. The "game in a game" part was one major reason for me to pledge this game. These customizable interfaces will actually not only be useful for games, but even allow us to build quite complex machineries in stations/spaceships that will serve all kinds of functions. The best part is that NQ doesn't have to develop any of these, as they provide a universal development-platform which allows to create everything!

But first I'd have one question: which ways are we able to interconnect different "Programming Units" together?

I get that you can connect things to the DPU by dragging lines to various components. But what was not shown is how different DPUs could talk to each other. Obviously there are various technical reasons not to simply allow a DPU to get access to another DPU. But a very simple component (e.g. comm-antenna) could function as input/output interface between DPUs.

For the Arcade games that would mean that you could play against other players, and even create tournaments to win some Qunata!

For the Screen element it would also be nice if the screen itself could be used an input device (aka touch screen;) (ok. maybe for a later expansion...)

The possibilities will be endless!  :o
