Mechanics of Space Combat: Disengagement

Recommended Posts

These are some great and thought provoking ideas.

No matter what is provided to the player, Pirates are bound to find ways to exploit certain aspects of the game.

Ofc, that's part of the fun being a pirate. Figuring out some way to use game mechanics to your advantage. As should all players do.

This discussion is all very much stick in the Eve mindset. Interdiction bubbles are fine but shouldn't be the only option for pulling people out of warp. It's much more interesting and exciting to be able to chase people down in warp and pull them out of it than to simply deploy a bubble. Either with a module or with some kind of limited FTL weaponry, or both.

Klatu, there was some discussion about tractor beams and targeting to disable systems as well. Engaging other ships while in warp (ala ST) is another possibility but would likely require an environment/interface different from normal space.

I always wished that running fights were not so rare in Eve but the mechanics just weren't in place to make them happen.  You either get a warp scram on a target before he jumps or he is most likely going to reach a safe station or hiding spot.

It is high on my wish list for DU that we be able to follow ships into warp and the bigger a ship is, the easier it should be to follow.
