You mean things like shipping routes? Cargo lines? The content of the game is made by the players; if players want there to be, then there will be. For something like regular lines of cargo to exist, there would have to be a reason for them to exist, which would probably be that they connect very well-developed systems/planets. Such lines would have to be protected my military escorts as well, due to the danger of piracy. So it's possible, but there needs to be a reason.

as ATM said basically; I doubt there will be conveyor belts or something to transport goods for long distances since it will kill the need for players to do that. Maybe small networks could exist (from some kind of inventory system to your fabricator), but I'm convinced that no planet spanning, automatic systems will be in the game.

 

afaik there is no screen of the inventory yet.

In fact, there's no need for conveyor belts given the lore of the tech.

Bascially, the tech behind the Nanoformer revolves around the idea of reducing atomic distances and suspending the super-compressed materials in anti-gravity shells, called nanopacks. The "Factory Units" are essentially, giant nanoformers, able to work by deploying a nanofield of a shape of anytihng you want, and then slowlly materialising it - which uses blueprints. 

So, the only "belt" of elements / equipment you need, is a container or containers, linked to a factory unit, to mass produce a ship, or container(s) conmected to 3D printers that manufacture parts for ships and player gear (possibly, not yet confirmed if it's done through a 3D printer).


If multiple factory units can "increase" the manufacturing speed, is a subject of debate, cause it also means "builders" can be used as builders in an RTS game and "focus fire" build something.

In Space Engineers (SE)

, conveyors (basically pipes) are used to connect different containers and functional blocks (e.g. Assemblers and refineries) together. If a construct is properly conveyer end up, a player can access items in any container from any other container. SE also has connectors which allows to different constructs to dock and then all the connected storages can be shared between the two constructs. This is great for loading/unloading.

 

They can't really be used over large distances since each conveyor block also requires power to keep it running and while on the cheaper end, they still require some resources to build. So while its technically possible to make a cross continental pipe, to keep it running assumes power stations along the way and that it is protected from attack along its entire length. Which is really only feasible in creative mode. ;)

 

Also in SE power is automatically transferred to all switched on blocks in a single construct and power can even be shared through a dock connection.

 

In Dual Universe, we know there are cable elements, but we don't know what they do yet. How containers in a single construct are connected is still a question. If actual pipe elements are used, this would make connecting up a huge space station a very interesting endeavor. Also there is the question on how two constructs can dock and load/unload goods. Or whether all of the loading/unloading will have to be done manually.

I realise now that this is a good question to ask JC at the next AMA. :)

So, you mean these containers here connected with particle relay looking like this ??? Both images are on their Twitter page. theya re supposed to be relays from contaienrs to other Elements (notice how the containers have "plugs" for the relays" ).

Yup. I do mean those pipes. Though they look more like fuel/power couplings. While they could be used for connecting containers, we don't know how they will actually work yet. Honestly, I'd be happy with any system, each have their own pros and cons.

Well, technically, given the nanofield lore part, these are particle relays, that shoot nanofield "tubes" from one to another. They can relay fuel, to materials and even energy. I mean, I have no problem with multipurpsoe elements that reduce GPU intensity as it won't have to load different types of pipes. And since they shoto a nanofield "tube" turrets can turn at 360 degrees, while beign fed energy and ammo at the same time.

 

 

Think of these nanofield relays as an optic fiber for more things than one. :P

So... Pokemon.  The PC system essentially works in that game by allowing any pokemon or item to be transferred anywhere instantly.  Given how far ahead the game is with it's technology with being able to wear portable devices called the Nanoformer... there's a good chance that the ability to transfer large amounts of materials/items will be easy and instant.

 

Haha even those containers and pipes remind me of Pokemon...
