How to build a ship?

First you need to restructure how you're thinking about the game.

Unless something has changed... they're still planning on it taking months from release for us as a community to get off the first planet.  To begin moving through space to the other planets in the first system... and then who knows how long before interstellar travel becomes available.

So this isn't a free roaming space exploration game where you can be alone on a planet... at least not for very long.  Maybe 5-10 years down the road someone might be able to get themselves lost on a world the rest of the game population isn't actively using... but I expect there will be lots of people around for a long time by virtue of how the game systems for travel will be designed to function.

Namely that we won't be able to scatter to the corners of the universe right from the start and will have to work together to build transportation capability.

Depends how hard interstellar travel is... how many methods there are and how long each takes...  And the game ceases to function if people spread out too much too quickly.

The corporations and services and PvP require other players to be around... or they have no purpose.  I hope it's a full year before players working together unlock the technology and then construct a way for people to get from one system to another. And then it takes very nearly as long in the new system to build the necessary infrastructure to allow further expansion.  But exactly how long it takes and how they limit our expansion is speculation at this point and a matter of balance they will have to consider carefully.

this isn't primarily a space exploration game... it's a civilization building game.  While it's set in a scifi setting and some exploration is necessary to expand to new territory for the civilization to grow... If you're expecting a free roaming space exploration game... you'll be disappointed.

Actually, it's a sandbox game. Says so on their web page. It's not Turbonerding in Space.

http://www.dualthegame.com/

Dual Universe is a Continuous Single-Shard sandbox MMORPG taking place in a vast Sci-Fi universe, focusing on emergent gameplay with player-driven in-game economy, politics, trade and warfare.

That means they can go free-roam as much as they want, as long as they got ways to produce fuel on their own ship, along with whatever else mechanics the game has to tether you near civilisation aside from fuel - or whatever mechanics are introduced later on.

It's called Emergent Gameplay. Free-roaming is one of those activities. I believe the real problem with the arguement below is te accessibility part.

a full year to travel to even one new system......Being a space game I hope there is alot more emphasis and accessibility to yknow exploration and space then that.

You confuse accessibility with "EZ MODE EXPLORATION LOLOLOL". No, warp is not instant WITHIN star systems, and it's not instant BETWEEN star systems - Star Gates are probably quantum wormholes, but even they, may actually take timefor loading reasons. That's the devs saying "you gotta earn that achievement of finding a new planet full of rare resources untouched by the rest of the server". It's called risk and reward, and explorers have been paid a lot throughout history, cause you know, they invest their time and expertise into finding new lands for someone. Exploration should not be a "gonna go explore in the weekend" thing. It's a gameplay mentality, like hauling.

So no. Just because it's a sci-fi game doesn't mean it has to be easy mode on everything. You want to be an explroer? Get good at planning out your fuel needs, building a ship that has very minimal consumption on fuel and find some good buddies who can help you out on a jam.

So basically you mean that...

Space Exploration is going to cost a lot? Why can't we just build a tower of dirt?

The Holy Tower of Dirt. To Infinity and Beyond!

All hail the Tower of Dirt with its majestic tower roof that shoots a fountain in the sky -- oh wait... that's no tower.

But in all seriousness, expeditions were always funded and in return for fame (and money) the explorers just forfeited the lands they found to their benefactors. Or, you know, if you got all the mullas for it, pull a Batman and fund your own campaign on exploration.

No seriously, I mean a Batman as in the founder of Melbourne, formerly known as Batmania, John Batman .

So yeah, exploration should be costly and should require knowledge of game mechanics and actual soft skills, like piloting abilities.

Now I wonder how expeditions will be made if there are not enough features for factions and stuff at launch.

How much would people pay for a trip to the moon?

Can we charge real money?

Expeditions mean you have to plan logistics (fuel or other provisions), they also mean you need to have an infrastructure to secure the production of those logistics, which means you need to have access to resources you will invest into procuring MORE resources by expedition. Which means the expedition will need capable people who can fight off any threat in their path and can operate with initiative.

That leaves a lot of things for orgs to do at launch. If people expect to enter a sandbox game and find quest marks over NPCs heads, then they do not understand what a sandbox is - and given many young people in the forums have never played in an ACTUAL playground with a sandbox, I think they really do not get it.

A trip to the moon is no big deal with the sub-light tech they got available in the game's lore and to be honest, moons don't really produce that much worthy minerals, at least, i nthe sense of having a "scramble for the moon" to fight over its resources. In fact, the real expeditional nightmare will be to get to other planets with sub-light engines, as Warp drives will take a while to unlock.

And no, if NQ follows any standard Terms of Service, one key feature of them is "you cannot pay real money to another player for in-game services. That's why gold-farmers are banned upon their confirmation.

All in all :

1) There's a planet to explore with 2500 times a larger surface area than the Witcher 3's map. That leaves a lot of opportuniteis for people to settle on certain areas and fortresses to rise, without including things like caves, or underground mole-people, coming to the surface to hunt down scrubs.

2) It's not about money as a flat pay, it's about royalties. If people are smart on exploring ,they will sell a planet's locations they put a claim on to different people. So yeah, unless your explorer is in your factiion and you give them royalties off of the faction's revenue on taxes, expect them to sell the planet you helped them expede to cause you payed them on a flat pay, instead of earning their loyalty.

3) No real money involved.
