Uber Services

So just spit balling here, you can take this seriously or not, whichever you choose.

After the first stages of the game, when all of the big organizations and large teams have left Alioth, it will be deserted for a bit, left to only solo players or the ones left behind, until new players start to join. These new players are going to be in a small pickle because they will be both new to the game and low on resources. Imagine, an Uber service that could help kickstart their time in DU. They pay a small fee based on how far they want to go, or which organizations to be flown to, and people fly them there. Use DUber to pick up new recruits from the starting planet. Lost your ship or had it stolen? Call DUber and they will pick you up and safely bring you home.

DUber is here to "make transportation as reliable as running water, everywhere, for everyone."

It may be a game but no drinking and flying folks.

So... is this a service you're going to be offering? Or one you're suggesting be offered?

Aside from that, if the person wants to be flown to an organization, I'd imagine they might be new members of said org, in which case a member of the org would come out and pick them up themselves.

It was just a thought, maybe I would offer it but could be whoever.

Organizations have better things to do than shuttle people around. I mean, with uber in real life, your friends could pick you up or drive you places, but you buy an Uber instead. DUber would be friendly so no clashing with Orgs and no beef between people. Orgs are going to have beef and don't want enemies flying through their territory so with DUber, they are neutral.

Well, the devs have said that after some safezones are discovered, that new players will have the option to teleport to another safezone (without any items, just the avatar) that will only happen once (probably, we'll have to await more info on the subject).

However, a contractual system similar to Courier Contracts in EVE can be achieved for people who just don't want to drive themselves towards a place and want to just kick back and chill for half an hour as they are flown from one side of the galaxy to another :

1) Set up a contract for a person to get you to an area. The driver puts up a collateral (if they don't deliver you to your location, they have to refund your lost time with them). AKA, same deal as with delivery contracts, only for an Avatar.

2) The system works on a zone to zone basis, meaning, you set up contract on Territory A (safezone, station, owned territory) and you demand to be landed on another territory or construct. The contractor / driver has to land on a territory for at least 5 minutes in order for the payment of the contract to be validated. The passenger get's a ringing notification, in case they are afk - or any default notification sound for alert of all sorts

3) the Driver can force a person off of their vehicle by simply "expelling them", which is something that can be very tricky. Alternatively, a certain "seat" can be associated with a certain RDMS role of "passenger seat" so when a driver wants to expell a customer on the landing zone, after the 5 minutes have passed - or automatically - the game simply teleports the passenger outside the vehicle.

It's a good idea all around. Best way to avoid attention. Have somebody else fly you somewhere.

Very true. But existing logistics services probably focus on interplanetary trips. I imagine Alioth will get pretty built up so people would have a need to travel around the planet quickly, so there is probably a good market for a person only, Alioth only service.

I like the name DUber, too. Sadly, the copyright police will probably come a -calling.

Still, even on the same planet, territory to territory could work, heck, even for a train system that could owkr, having the train start from one part of thep lanet and goign to the other, from one territory to another - and if planets get bigger you bet trains wil lbe needed in some cases, as landing pads will be away from a city with only the train being the only point of access ( for many a reason.

EDIT : Have Force Field doors in the game, then have the trains scripted to detect if a person has a transportation contract on them in order to board it. Same rules of expulsion from the train could apply as with the cab suggestion early on.
