Automated production lines?

Heya,

Soooo...anyone knows anything about production lines?

Is it like

Manual production line: You have a refinery where you put in ores, it spits out bars and you carry the bars over to the fabricator and that produces parts for the ship

(Like "Interstellar Rift" if someone played the game...you mine, get the ore to the refinery, get the chests to the storage etc)

or

Automated production lines: You put all the gathered/traded resources into container with conveyor belts attached leading to refineries, smithies, fabricators, or other goods producing machines and you can control the whole production from one console and/or wrie a script to produce whatever you want.
(Like Space Engineers)

or is it a complete different but totally awesome system?

Regards

Well, we know for sure that mining will not be automatable. This is because allowing players to automate mining would make it very easy, and would put others out of business within the game.

As for automating production, I'm not sure if anything has been said. We know it will possible to have scripts running in-game that allow players to do different things, such as automate defenses. Whether or not we'll be allowed to automate production is the question, as it is more than possible already.

It's not far-fetched to say that scripting inventory table interactions in Lua is something not that difficult. :P

And yes, a factory would follow the same principles as a battleship. You got 3D printers that are fed materials, that are provided by smelters, that are fed raw resources, that they drain from a container or racks of them, that players refill all the time.

A battleship would have turrets, that are fed ammo, that they fire by draining energy from the reactor, that is fed fuel, that resides in a container, that is refuelled by people. It's the exact same principle.

The industrialist chooses what things the 3D printer prints, and the gunner chooses what things they shoot at.

The thing is, it's gonna be an automated factory, but it won't run without a player in charge. So, an ambitious industrialist better hire people to run the factory for them if they were to go afk for a couple of days.
