Ship Ideas?

I think that most people are going to own a multi-purpose (personal) ship, one that has ftl capability, a decent sized cargo hold, some weapons, atmospace flight, etc. (to what balance depends on the player)

It is more common for orgs to have the specialised vessels, like pure combat vessels, carriers, mining barges, cargo haulers, troop transports etc. because they have the resources to field multiple ships at once, and the variety of ships complement each other (a carrier is useless if there is only one pilot). I imagine that BOO (and other orgs with a relaxed structure) will field personal ships instead of structured fleet due to the nature of such orgs.

I think the first construct vehicle people create will most likely be a hovercraft, to venture out and settle on Alioth somewhere and build a base before building a space ship and leaving the planet. Or maybe a mobile-base-hovercraft so you can easily move between resource areas and avoid threats.

 

For someone venturing to other planets and systems, a mobile base that has everything you need including a resurrection node would make sense.

sorry no drills stark. what im really hoping for is some sort of conveyor system like space engineers to move around items, doing everything by hand may get annoying... depending on how much you can hold and how far your have to travel with it.

If you want ship ideas, I would totally check out this website. You can put it any combination of any characters and it will generate a ship based on that, which is a seed. Put in absolutely nothing, and you get a random ship every time. But, whats more fun is to put in text, and see what ship it generates, because you can put in that same text later and it will generate the same ship. I've found it neat for inspiration, and there are definitely some super awesome ones that can generate, but unfortunately I can't think of any right now. Anyway, try it out:

I've put in 100+ characters in the name field before and it will still use every character as a seed to generate a new ship; and the same ship every time for that seed. I think the number of ships it can generate is limited only by how many characters you're willing to type in.

I hope there is cloaking technology. If there isn't, then I hope there is focus on ship designs that focus on minimizing ship signatures in terms of heat or mass or radiation(including visible).

According to the interview with JC Baillie by Bicyclewalrus there will be cloaking technology, JC named it specificly.

I have a lot of ideas for ships and have played a lot of games with ship building mechanisms. I would love to share but most of it is TOP SCREAT seeing I will probably be a ship designer in game. I am sure there will be a lot of great designs out there! Just remember these main factors when building that can make or brake you : #1 cost of materials and ship cost.  #2 ship specialization and efficiency.  #3 Research and technology upgrades.  I can probably help you out if you have ideas or questions but I will not be showing designs at this time but when the game starts and you need a special ship order look me up!  *Wink*  =)
