But, you dont need two subs. One sub can have up to three characters on it from what I understand, so you can specialise three separate characters and potentially allowing a person to run two ( or more) instances at one time - though that will depend on how NQ implements things.

That's what I am arguing for yes

Is there any advantage to having multiple DU accounts other than being able to train skills on multiple characters simultaneously?

I have a trader, blackops and main.

They will train as needed and it allows me to action each as needed regardless of the locations of the others.

You can specialise:

One for Mining

One for Manufacturing

One for Piloting/weapons

One for clubbing

Etc etc etc ;)

Yes but you can have up to three characters on the same account, right? Except you can only train skills on one of them at a time.

So by having multiple accounts (and multiple monthly subscriptions) you get what exactly? Is it only the ability to train skills on each account simultaneously (and have more than three characters in total), or is there something else that I've overlooked?

I'm still deciding if I want multiple accounts or not, that's why I ask.

AFAIK there hasnt been any decision as to if you can train skills on all three at the same time, or not. Its "not" with Eve Online, but, as you know, this is DU not Eve ;)

I think that's the idea though:

Anyway aside from the simultaneous skill training thing, are there any other advantages to having multiple accounts?

Surely you have thought about this if you're willing to pay multiple subscriptions for it...( @blazemonger in any case,  @Lethys as well if I remember correctly, and probably others)?

Ah, thx, never saw the kick starter page before. ;)

Simultaneous skill training and ,depending on mechanics, you can use one as afk scout and one for watching markets while you Play with the main. It's very useful for awoxing and Infiltration too, you can always kill and recreate chars to start over.

I have 3 rn...to have those sweet sweet 9 chars

Ok but I would think that you can do all of that with one account, for up to three characters.

Guess I asked a very difficult question! :P

Cheers guys

I don't think so.

1 can be online and skilling at the same time imho.

And even IF you can skill all chars at the same time then you have still a huge advantage, depending on how big the skilltree is.

But you can use up to three characters on the same account for different things like you said, such as afk scout or watching markets, or an expendable character for infiltration etc. Or specializing in different things like trading, building, pvp, covert ops, pirate, whatever.

I know you can't skill them all at the same time, that's what I said. So as far as I know that's the only advantage of having multiple accounts, i.e. you can train skills on one character per account simultaneously (and you get 3 characters per account).

My question was if there are any other advantages to having multiple accounts besides that, or if that's the only advantage. That is multiple paid subscriptions, not just multiple characters. I was asking so I can decide whether it's worth the extra subscription cost to me.

(sigh it's getting very repetitive now so I guess I have my answer lol, thanks guys)

Not at the same time though and that's the real advantage. I have three monitors for exactly that purpose

I've played a lot of MMO games and never saw an option to load multiple characters from a single account at a time.

For me it makes sense to have some pvp or industrial character with a trader character on single account, as I believe trading won't require to be logged in 24/7. But there is almost no point keeping several characters that require active real time efforts on the same account.

Frankly speaking I would be really upset if DU will be the same multiboxing hell as EvE.

Right I've never multiboxed, and in asking my question I personally wasn't thinking about being logged on with multiple characters at the same time. I just thought about switching between them (until Lethys mentioned afk scouts but I also didn't realize that you need separate accounts to log on at the same time).

I hope scouting will be more about actively moving around due to limited range, so afk is not an option. Unless you just want to collect data about who's passing very specific point in space, like who's leaving space station heading towards planet, ect.

And public markets should be displayed through some kind of external app - players will export data anyway, even if not provided by NQ.

That would limit multi-sub to simply more characters and faster leveling.

I just hope they don't allow full access to the markets via an API to prevent botting.

And yes, depending on the mechanics multiple accs might not be viable at all for these things - No one knows yet. The only thing they're always useful is for political shenenigans, everything else is a plus

I thought more of just viewing the market. For interacting (buying, selling, requesting) you'd still need to get in game, or maybe even physically travel to the market.

Viewing the markets IS the problem....load all that data into an external program and create a margin trading bot with that info. Park your char at the market terminal and Run the bot 24/7

I'd agree. But something's nagging in the back of my mind. Sandbox and NQ's statements on raw economics in relation to what is currently known of potentially available game feature scopes. It's quite possible that they would take a page from the book of real life (tech curves, socio-economics, technical economic models etc) they would open the door completely and leave the door towards a programmative niche entirely open.

Not only would that present a rather unique approach in this industry in terms of game development, it would also expose people's behaviour in the sandbox on a groupthink level to the same impulses and choice challenges we see in our own interactions with such mechanisms in the real world. While fear of that is perfectly understandable, it is not something NQ would not be able to provide its players the means with to face such choice challenges and deal with those. Truth be told, it's something that would very quickly take the reigns from EVE away in terms of potential / attention / research opportunities in relation to virtual economics.

I want near unrestricted PvP outside safe zones, thats pretty much it.

After all, the best part about building a ship in any voxel-sandbox space game is being able to break another person's toy ))
