  1. Hello everyone so, I just got myself the Patron pack (and iam pretty new here obviously) which should, so I think, also give me access to the pre alpha forum. But it seems like I don't have access to it ... sadly. Question is, what should I do about it? - Drunken Savage
  2. This is a poll to see how many of the "active" members or people that view the forums such as this post have pre-alpha.
  3. Dear Pre-Alpha Testers, The goal of this new in-game event is to build the largest possible city in a combined effort from the community. You can build houses, buildings or even skyscrapers representing your home or your Organization headquarters in a civilian, urban environment! When will start the event and will it end? It will start with the test tomorrow (Saturday, April 7th, 2018). It will end with the release of the upcoming new Client Build (ETA: May 2018) To get more info about the new build coming soon, you can read this blog post on our website. Where will it happen? On Alioth, at the following coordinates: pos{0,2,-37.2769,175.8497,0.0000} A teleporter will be set in front of the Hub, at the end of the bridge, near the Arkship. This will teleport you on the involved territory tile for the event. There, you'll find a small square and the goal is to build a city around it. Why a City Building event? While this event might seem similar to the “Building Outpost” contest, there are some important differences: this is not really a contest and more a global community effort to test how the server will behave with a real, fully detailed city built by players. Why not a Spaceship Building event? We wanted to make a Spaceship Building event first. However, this would not have made a lot of sense, as we are planning very soon a revamp of the piloting game mechanics, as well as new interactive Elements to diversify the means to propulse dynamic constructs. We will plan to make a new contest for spaceships once we will have released the new build. Will there be a reward? Not this time, as it isn’t a contest but more a global common goal for the following playtests. However, we might publish screenshots and/or a video of the best constructs on our social media and on our website Best Regards, The Novaquark team.
  4. Dear Pre-Alpha testers, Two things are coming for the playtest, Saturday February 3rd! Outpost Building Contest Now that we have implemented a (basic) version of the Blueprint feature, we are planning to organize a few contests in the coming months. To celebrate the implementation of new Elements (decorative for the time being), the first contest will start on Saturday, February 3rd. Show your builder skills by creating an outpost! It can be underground or in the sky, but the construct shouldn’t be a vehicle. The goal: Building the most kickass outpost during the next playtests. The time frame: The event starts at 2.00 pm UTC on Saturday, February 3rd. It ends at 11.00 pm UTC on Saturday, March 10th. (You will have 2 Saturdays and 4 Fridays of playtests to make it) The prizes: 1st place: - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post - 3 Beta Keys (to share with your friends) - 3 DACs 2nd place: - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post - 2 Beta Keys (to share with your friends) - 2 DACs 3rd place: - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post - 1 Beta Key (to share with a friend) - 1 DAC Criteria selection list: The winners will be selected by a jury formed with the Novaquark staff. We will take into account the following criteria: The outpost must be a static construct. The outpost must be made with only one construct. The outpost must have a (serious) Sci-Fi vibe. The outpost should be good looking and creative. The outpost shouldn’t represent a copyrighted asset from another Sci-Fi universe. AMA (Ask Me Anything) In-game Event On Saturday, February 3rd, JC Baillie will be connected in-game and will answer your questions! We will give your further information on the topic in the coming days. Best Regards, The Novaquark team.
  5. I'm sure this is a rather NOOB question, but what TIME is the pre-alpha test on March 29th??? Any easy way to find out the times for the tests?
  6. Do anyone know what time the pre servers are up?? it says march 10, and it is march 10 here. i wonder what time zone they are following..
  7. So I don't really post much here but I thought this was an interesting topic. Looking from the point-of-view as someone who helps runs/admins a community the Pre-alpha hurts quite a lot. It stops communication between people in the org, talk about most of the game and stops the community from growing as much as I want. This can lead to burnout from the orgs and the game itself which is a problem. Now there are a few options to fix this: 1. NQ removes the NDA This probably wont happen as NQ has said quite a few times that it still committed to the NDA 2. Upgrade the accounts - So Beta gets access to Alpha, etc. This could happen, probably wont. Justified because the sudden release of pre-Alpha. Everything got kicked back. (according to an old thread Beta was meant to be released this year.) Now the third option is probably the best and most likely to happen: 3. Allow non Pre-Alpha users to agree to the NDA and add a badge to there profile showing they have signed it. This would really help communities develop as more people can have access to chats/and actually talk about the game but still keep the NDA intact. I do hope choose something to help communities with this. And I know the Supporter packs mean more can access the Pre-Alpha but that is locked behind a pay wall that not everyone can access. Many Thanks Darrk
  8. Hi everyone! As we are deploying tomorrow a new version of the game, it has been decided to release publicly to the whole community a glimpse of what's coming Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  9. I don't think I'll be able to get a decent gaming machine until the beta, so any ideas on what would be adequate to participate in pre-alpha? I know it's impossible to really predict how the game's going to perform at this point, but I'm inexperienced and hoping someone can at least give me an idea of my laptop's potential with Boot Camp. Macbook Pro Specs: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
  10. Hi everyone, The email with the link to download the client will be sent as soon as possible. We will keep you informed on this topic. We know you are all eager to test the game. We apologize for the delay. If you are worried about whether or not your account is set for the Pre-Alpha, here are the three possible situations: If your gold backer status (or above) isn't displayed on your profile page on the community portal: This means you are a Kickstarter backer and you might have forgot to fill the Kickstarter survey form or something went wrong with the information you gave in the survey. If you are in this case, please contact the support and state your email address linked to your Dual Universe account and that your backer status isn't displayed on your profile page on the Community Portal. You can join the support here: https://support.dualthegame.com/hc/en-us If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal, but not on the forum: Your account is already set to download the client. However, you don't have access to the Pre-Alpha forum section yet. This means you have to log at least once on the forum, or sign off / sign in again. After that, you will have to wait the next update transferring eligible accounts from the group "Member" to the group "Pre-Alpha tester". We will run several updates today to leave nobody behind, but you will probably have to wait a bit. If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal and on the forum: Your account is all set. You should be able to download the client, as well as having access to the Pre-Alpha forum section (if you have logged on the forum before this topic has been posted.) Reminder: this is a Pre-Alpha. See it as a preliminary test for massively multiplayer interaction (first time with potentially more than 2,500 players) and not as a representative final game experience yet. There is a high chance that no progress will be saved and Blueprint mechanics are deactivated for the time being as they are being reworked. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards, The Novaquark team.
  11. Hi y'all! So recently, the controls for DU have been released : https://support.dualthegame.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002024353-Inputs Those controls obviously are for AZERTY type keyboard users, mainly in France or Europe I think. Are there pictures like this for the controls in QWERTY type keyboard? If so where can I find them? If there is no such picture, is there a simple way to translate the controls from AZERTY to QWERTY or do I have to go by trial and error in-game? Also, will there be an option in the launcher to transfer the keyboard type to QWERTY so the controls are in QWERTY? Thanks and have a good day!
  12. While I appreciate we can't get any details.. I'm just curious about how the ATV test went over the weekend As expected, better, need some work, Ready for next weekend? Inquiring mind would like to know, obviously no details because NDA.. Any crumbs.. please
  13. Although usually not very active on the forums, I just wanted to take a moment to send out my regards to the ATV team and NQ wishing you both the best of luck this weekend. This test marks a significant milestone in dual universe’s development, and the whole community is praying for your success. In particular to the ATV team, remember you represent all of us, the players. We share the same hopes and dreams for dual universe but the responsibility to help make them happen falls on your shoulders. How you conduct yourselves over the next two days and the months to come will influence both the quality and timeline of development. For every bug you find, for every concept you critic, you are paving the way forward towards our dream. To my surprise each and every ATV member I have interacted with has been a commendable individual worthy of respect, donating both their time and expertise towards promoting the game. The time has finally come for you to contribute in earnest and show us what you are really made of. I know you will make us all proud. I invite others to comment below and offer their words of encouragement to our first group of pioneers.
  14. Hi everyone, Many of you have asked for more information and clarification about the Pre-Alpha. To make things a bit easier for everyone we’ve compiled our answers into a this FAQ. Who will have access to the Pre-Alpha? All backers with a Gold Founder status (or above), the members of the ATV group, a small vetted “Friends & Family” group, and the Novaquark staff. When exactly will the Pre-Alpha be accessible? The first session of the Pre-Alpha will take place Saturday 30th of September: - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time). - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time). - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST (Los Angeles Time). We will also have a “trial run” on Saturday September 23rd for the ATV group. This will enable us to run some tests with a smaller (100 players, all under NDA) group of real players before scaling up our efforts for the Pre-Alpha one week later. The Trial Run (ATV group ONLY) will take place Saturday, September 23rd: - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time). - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time). - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST. (Los Angeles Time). Additional Pre-Alpha times and dates will depend on the results of these initial sessions. Between these sessions , the development team will improve the game according to the feedback and bug reports submitted during the last session. We will try to give access on a regular basis going forward, but please understand we are looking at these as tests and we do not intend to have the server available on a 24/7 basis yet. How will I know when and where to download the Pre-Alpha Client? If you are among those who have access to the Pre-Alpha, we will send an email to the address linked to your Dual Universe account. Instructions for downloading the client will be provided. You will need to be logged into your Dual Universe account to download the Pre-Alpha client. Before you can download the client you will need to agree to and accept the EULA and NDA (which may be part of the EULA). Please note: Downloading and using the client means you have explicitly accepted the EULA and NDA. Can I tell people I am in the Pre-Alpha? Unlike many NDAs, you won’t have to “hide” the fact that you are part of the Pre-Alpha Tester group. The reason is simple: it will already be publicly displayed on the forum and the Community Portal because of your Backer status (Gold and above) or the ATV membership mention. Can I share screenshots and videos from the Pre-Alpha? Pre-Alpha testers can make screenshots and videos, with two conditions: No screenshots or videos may be posted prior to the NDA drop. This means you can make and save videos and screenshots for sharing, but may not post them until Novaquark officially announces the NDA has been dropped. While sharing screenshots and videos with people outside the Pre-Alpha test group is strictly forbidden, we also strongly discourage any sharing between Pre-Alpha testers during the NDA: unless you are 100% sure that those with whom you share screenshots and videos are trustworthy, don't share anything. The reason: if a leak occurs, you will be held responsible for it. All videos and screenshots must retain the “Pre-Alpha” watermark. This is to make it clear to anyone viewing your content that these assets were created using a very early, non-final version of the game. This is important as we do not want Pre-Alpha footage and images to be confused with later Alpha, Beta, and Release versions of the game. Imagine someone coming across Pre-Alpha footage several years from now and making decisions based on what they are seeing because they think it’s final, representative footage, and not test footage. Obviously, we want to avoid this kind of confusion. Failure to respect these conditions may be interpreted by Novaquark as an intent to damage the reputation of the game and the company (with any and all consequences that may follow), depending of the situation. If you feel you have captured footage or images that have a very positive value (like tutorials) and should be shared before the NDA is dropped, you can contact a member of the Novaquark staff by submitting a request on the upcoming Customer Support portal or by sending a private message on the forum to one of the CMs: Nomad, Nunc or Nyzaltar). We will then submit the footage or the screenshots for approval to the upper management. However, if the answer is negative, please respect it. What about the NDA regarding discussions of the Pre-Alpha? Any and all discussions of the Pre-Alpha must take place in the Pre-Alpha area of the forums. This area will be available only to those members of the community who are taking part in the Pre-Alpha. Everything posted in this section will be under NDA. To help people recognize when they are reading or replying to a topic in a section under NDA, the background color will be different from the public forum sections. As we know the forum is not always the best way to discuss, especially in real time, we are currently in discussion to let the community have a Discord server dedicated to the Pre-Alpha. Moderators of this Discord will work closely with Novaquark staff to ensure that only Pre-Alpha testers will have access to it. Of course, the NDA will apply also on this Discord channel. How will bug reporting work? While the dedicated Pre-Alpha forum section will be the place to give feedback on the Pre-Alpha and discuss with other Pre-Alpha testers, we also plan to open a Customer Support portal where all Pre-Alpha testers will be able to report any bugs or technical difficulties they encounter in-game or to while launching the game. To be able to see the existing topics, post new ones or reply to some, you will need to log in on this portal with your Dual Universe account that has access to the Pre-Alpha. As long as the NDA is in effect, no discussion there should be made public. What about the NDA and adding content to the Community Wiki? No information related to the Pre-Alpha can be added to the Wiki until the NDA is lifted. You may prepare texts and assets offline and hold on to them until the NDA is lifted, but absolutely nothing should be posted to the Wiki until such time. The reasons are obvious: this would be one massive leak and some of this information will likely change during the Pre-Alpha. What happens if I violates these, or any other provisions, of the NDA? Violating the NDA will mean your immediate expulsion from the Pre-Alpha and you will be banned from the Alpha and Closed Beta tests. There may be additional consequences depending on the severity and nature of the violation. What are the specs required to play Dual Universe in Pre-Alpha? Please keep in mind that the following configuration is based on the fact that a Pre-Alpha or Alpha version of a game is not fully optimized. These may mean the specs stated here higher than may be required at launch. These specs only apply to the Pre-Alpha and should be considered as being subject to change as the game approaches a final Release version. CPU: Intel i5 (i7 may yield better results) RAM: 16 GB minimum Graphic Card: nVidia GTX 960 (or Radeon equivalent) with at least 2GB RAM. HDD: 40GB required for installation and Cache (a SSD Hard Drive may improve performance) Operating System: Windows 7, 8 or 10. Best Regards, The Novaquark Team.
  15. Is there any info already about pre-alpha access in October? I know that pre-alpha starts on 30th of September and we won't have permanent access to the game 24 hours per day (and probably not every day). I'm sure we could play on Saturday (30th of September) and on Sunday (1st of October) because it's weekend but what next? I'm asking because I would like to take a vacation on Monday and Tuesday (2-3.10.2017) just to play DU and I wonder if I could play then.
  16. Anyone know how long pre-alpha's going to last? 1 week? 1 month?
  17. Hi guys, Live from Gamescom 2017 in Germany, we wanted to announce some news you have been anticipating for a long time now: Pre-Alpha will be accessible to Gold Founder backers and above and the ATV members on September 30th. We just announced the news via a Press Release that will soon be uploaded on the dedicated section of our website. You probably noticed that we're calling this first public access "Pre-Alpha" and not "Alpha", as originally intended. Why? Because we are not quite ready yet to switch the game into Alpha, but we still wanted to honor our commitment to our backers. This first public glimpse of the game won't feature a proper game loop as we originally wanted but, after postponing the release a few months ago, we felt like a new delay was not appropriate. We think any additional delays, even though the game is not in the true Alpha state we had anticipated, would not be in keeping with the spirit of our commitments to our community and backers. We decided it would be better to give you access to the game at an even earlier state than to delay again. That it would be better to give you a look at where we are, rather than wait again for where we had hoped to be at this stage. We promised to be transparent and open and we think this decision is the best way to keep that pledge. We're still actively working on a number of items that must be completed before we can truly call the game "Alpha" and bring you a better gaming experience. As with any pre-release software please keep in mind that the game is still in development and that the Pre-Alpha version, while as stable as possible at this stage, will still have a number of bugs, glitches, and unexpected issues. Again, the game should be stable (as are the versions we are showing at Gamescom and next month at PAX West), and playable, but this version is very early and we ask you set your expectations accordingly. That said, we feel this is your game as well as ours and that your early feedback is necessary and vital to help drive our development in the right direction. What does it change for you? Not much. All Gold backers and above prior September 7th (as previously announced) will have access to this Pre-Alpha and future Alpha 1. New backers pledging after September 7th will get access to Alpha 2 at a later stage. The Pre-Alpha will not be accessible 24/7. Instead we will be announcing times and dates that the single-shard server will be available for testing. We’ll make sure to give you plenty of advance notice of uptimes so you can plan your play times and testing with friends and other players. Because we are shifting from an Alpha to a Pre-Alpha test we may decide to ask all participants to sign an NDA and agree not to share information, screenshots or stream the game until the proper Alpha release. While we said there would be a high chance of not having any NDA for the Alpha, this Pre-Alpha is something else and we don’t feel it would be appropriate for streamers and viewers to judge Dual Universe based on this extremely early version. Once the game reaches a true Alpha stage the NDA will be lifted as we originally stated. However, to allow you to share your crazy stuff with us and the community, we’re currently considering creating a dedicated section of the forums for Pre-Alpha testers to share feedback, post images and videos, and other related materials. It will be the only authorized place to do that to keep it as private as possible at the beginning. Please know we aren’t doing this to hide any of issues we expect in Pre-Alpha, but to help us better focus the feedback and reaction from those who are actively participating in the tests to help us reach our true Alpha goal more quickly. We know it's not ideal and that breaking the NDA will be very tempting but we wanted to give you access to the game on September 30th to keep our promise and decided to trust you guys, like you trust us everyday. On a side note, as we're currently attending Gamescom, we won't be able to be as reactive as we usually try to be, so thank you for your patience and understanding. Nyzaltar and I will try to answer your questions whenever possible. Thank you for your amazing support! We already have amazing help propositions from some of you to help us improve the game once it’s live and that matters a lot to us. So this is it. See you soon in Dual Universe! Cheers, The Novaquark Team
  18. I'm just curious as to where I can find a download link for this game. If I read it correctly it's still in Pre-Alpha and I'm fine with that. Can someone provide a link or tell me how I can get this???
  19. Once alpha starts and ends, then beta, then eventually the final release... I'm just curious what NQ plans to do with the forums during those times. This is the first time I've been a part of any pre-alpha community and I really want to know. Ever since I started taking part in alphas and betas, I always figured that the forums would be archived in separate pre-alpha, alpha, and beta folders, but strangely I've never seen this in any other game I've played. Sure the game has moved into a new state, the old stuff is no longer relevant, why delete it though? Maybe I'm just appealing to my inner historian, but some of the stuff we discuss here on the forums impacts where the game goes in the future. Wouldn't it be awesome to just dig around in some of those pre-release threads and laugh at some of the ridiculous (and sobering) discussions and ideas that we've had and be able to compare it to the current game? It might be inevitable that what is discussed here would be deleted at some point in development or lost in some unorganized jumble post-release, but I'd really love to see some organization and sorting away done with these pre-release threads when the time comes later next year. Hell, I got 6TB of drive space, I could archive some parts of this on my own if it comes to that. Thoughts?
  20. Hi everyone! We have some good news to announce today: Dual Universe will be present at the GDC 2017 in San Francisco! JC Baillie, CEO and Founder of Novaquark will be there with a recent pre-alpha build of the game, from February 28 to March 3. But that's not all: We are glad to present you NQ-Nunc, our partner in the US who has organized a MeetUp with backers and fans on Tuesday, February 28 in San Francisco! While having worked with us for several months in the shadows now, he will be there with JC to meet all of you and answer your questions. Be aware that the number of places is limited and the selection will be based on a "first come, first served". The Meet Up will be outside the GDC area so you won't need any GDC badge to attend. Best regards, Nyzaltar
  21. Hey there, community, here's what I got from asking questions at the meeting and playing the pre-alpha build. I will make no paragraph but only points as it is LONG, there's a lot, and even more questions than I had before then. Creation / Exploration NPCs : there will be some at the beginning of the game (where everyone spawn) showing you how to use your powers (creation suit), how the economy works, and everything that will be added like for example the 3D map Ship creation: we have created our ship (little, single place ship) ourselves. What's needed:- a cubic unit you can make spawn that is the centre of the ship's creation (has to be one of the most expensive item) that allows one construction to be movable. (I don't remember the name of the unit) - a cockpit - structure (metal) you can make spawn by voxel (you know, the video) - reactor(s) : hover to use the vehicle on earth and hover close to the ground real reactors placed besides a plane object (for those we used), so that the reactors were on each of the ship's sides - a gyroscope unit (1/20th maybe the size of the cube needed imagine a cube like in minecraft but half the size) that points the way the cockpit is - one rule : all of the component linked with direct or indirect contact with the make-structure-movable unit (cube) - one other rule (not in the pre alpha) : physically it has to be possible regarding the size and so mass of the thing and also balance and aerodynamic proof of the ship - Blueprints : you will have the possibility to get blueprints out of the ship you created with the prefabs, to manufacture it. You will have the ability to create (for advanced users it seems) more difficult objects and get a blueprint out of it (like a specific cockpit), though I'm not sure that last thing will ever be possible, it will bring the game to a realm of creation not even expected. Buildings : same as ships without the mythic cube. Though you cannot make a ship out of earth, maybe you can do this with buildings or at least with hobbit-like holes...Massive ships or structures into space:- instead of a cockpit you have a control centre were you can command the ship if it is one, know where enemies or outside units are (radar-like) - they talked about a drone you could throw out of the ship to make circle around the big structure and know what is outside in the command centre (with non-moving space buildings) Conquest : flag-like (as an idea it was said to me like that but well... You know a flag in a future universe is weird) anyway the idea is this one. You conquer, you put your mark, you deploy shields (let's say force shields like a bubble or between a gate), well at least buildings (and guys to protect) and that's all, it's like IRL Others: - Jet packs (for creation): there will be (I don't know for the fuel) only to construct things, I heard about using it only for this but not to travel, and with energy supply to recharge maybe... - Painting ? It will be possible to do it at close range, though the build we tested was not capable of that - Map : there will be one, a 3D one maybe, probably not in the pre-alpha as you can play without it to help debug the game (alpha is for that, don't expect to get pure pleasure, it's to test the game and help it being debugged) Servers, players creations' economy Cluster serversThe server as in game when it will be released as alpha were not used (I believe) when we played pre-alpha. We were basically using a small on-the-go server. So of course it looked like a pre-alpha build, the one they are using to work on as they say. See the videos on you-tube (Dual Universe channel) for more information on how the cluster server works: it's one server for all that charges round your player's location. Scripting and blueprint economyStill a good question. The problem is the server allowance and processing duration. It will be impossible to have all your scripts into the server to sell them, and there is still the problem about the security. We had a big talk about it, like we thought of common scripts within a same group or society that still runs if someone is connected (this will be possible), but to sell a script without the buyer that uses it reads it... it's something else. Also how much scripts are being used at the same time (I mean for robots you make out) is a deal and one of the biggest challenge of all we came into in our discussions. Environment Destroyable environment, the idea to find raw material being used then for ships is to have tools to scan where riches are. Day/Night system (possibilities): - Fake-sun (unreachable, that is a sunlight seen as coming from the sun) projecting realistically the light by moving on an axis : it's the one we saw being moved in god-mode, into a giant planet's ground. It seemed rather satisfying to see. - fixed sun(s), planets rotating on themselves Water, fluids? No water, it won't be in the alpha nor the beta (as far as I know), and most probably won't be in the final game (Dec. 2018). What is sure is that fluids spawning and fluids manipulating at hand won't be possible to make and won't be at release it's sure. But (I didn't ask), still water why not (I don't talk about lands under water yet or anything under water), you'd be falling and dying probably. Swimming, I don't know as for sea ships.. Still conceivable but it won't be in any beta. The idea is: no liquids, anyway the game will still be OK and hard to handle (I mean you will get busy by playing it) just by exploring, making business, a new society, war... Questions in suspendFor now the gravitation operated in the universe is still not a question developed within the team, or anyway I have not asked to the team directly (one might confirm me that). So the planet acceleration should be (at first) the same with no mind to their mass. One point though considering the size of planets and what it results (you know, the smaller the planet is, the thinner and lower the atmosphere is, due to the gravity): to get out of the atmosphere, you can accelerate with your ship with one kind of gas (used within an atmosphere), and you use another type of combustion when into the void (turns automatically). So basically, the atmosphere seems (I haven't checked, sorry, not the time to do two lifts-off, and I would have had to count the seconds for that over all) graphically to be proportional to the size of the planet (anyway I don't consider mass). This is not a big problem here, I just want to expose anything I understood or schemed in my head. Concerning weapons and combats system, we could access such things in the pre-alpha, but the team said there will be weapons (at least on the ships) and shields to counter (ships and buildings). I haven't asked for the in-game "hacking a territory base" system as it was exposed in the kick-starter video, but it's still an idea. All in all, we could see creation (god mode, for developers) and exploration by spaceship (the cabin already looks good btw). Thanks for reading.
