  2. Just wondering before I decide on which pack I buy, will the Sanctuary Territory Unit (STU) be a sponsor pack only item? And if it is not, how difficult is it planned to be in order to gain one. It really does seem to be a big advantage to own one, especially if they are exclusive to the sponsor packs. Any information on how STUs function would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. My question is as follows; How in the Dual Universe world, will Quanta(Currency) be continuously inserted in order to simulate a real working economy? It's been mentioned by the developers that they hope to remove all NPC trade (Which I think is great) but I don't understand how it's possible to do that when an economy needs a regulated injection of cash currency in order to regulate inflation. The basics of economics dictate that as more money enters a economy, the less value the currency retains (The very basic definition). In modern day, banks usually regulate currency injection on behalf of government treasuries, so who will do it in Dual Universe? The reason I ask is because without currency injection at a regulated pace, there can only be a certain amount of total money after the NPC's are removed. For example if they remove the NPC's and it's been six months, and all the players in the world have traded 20 billion Quanta worth of goods, then there can only ever be 20 billion Quanta in the world. Obviously this is a problem because it will make prices rise ridiculously high, especially if they money is spread thin between players.
  4. Hi everyone, The email with the link to download the client will be sent as soon as possible. We will keep you informed on this topic. We know you are all eager to test the game. We apologize for the delay. If you are worried about whether or not your account is set for the Pre-Alpha, here are the three possible situations: If your gold backer status (or above) isn't displayed on your profile page on the community portal: This means you are a Kickstarter backer and you might have forgot to fill the Kickstarter survey form or something went wrong with the information you gave in the survey. If you are in this case, please contact the support and state your email address linked to your Dual Universe account and that your backer status isn't displayed on your profile page on the Community Portal. You can join the support here: https://support.dualthegame.com/hc/en-us If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal, but not on the forum: Your account is already set to download the client. However, you don't have access to the Pre-Alpha forum section yet. This means you have to log at least once on the forum, or sign off / sign in again. After that, you will have to wait the next update transferring eligible accounts from the group "Member" to the group "Pre-Alpha tester". We will run several updates today to leave nobody behind, but you will probably have to wait a bit. If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal and on the forum: Your account is all set. You should be able to download the client, as well as having access to the Pre-Alpha forum section (if you have logged on the forum before this topic has been posted.) Reminder: this is a Pre-Alpha. See it as a preliminary test for massively multiplayer interaction (first time with potentially more than 2,500 players) and not as a representative final game experience yet. There is a high chance that no progress will be saved and Blueprint mechanics are deactivated for the time being as they are being reworked. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards, The Novaquark team.
  5. Hi everyone, Many of you have asked for more information and clarification about the Pre-Alpha. To make things a bit easier for everyone we’ve compiled our answers into a this FAQ. Who will have access to the Pre-Alpha? All backers with a Gold Founder status (or above), the members of the ATV group, a small vetted “Friends & Family” group, and the Novaquark staff. When exactly will the Pre-Alpha be accessible? The first session of the Pre-Alpha will take place Saturday 30th of September: - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time). - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time). - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST (Los Angeles Time). We will also have a “trial run” on Saturday September 23rd for the ATV group. This will enable us to run some tests with a smaller (100 players, all under NDA) group of real players before scaling up our efforts for the Pre-Alpha one week later. The Trial Run (ATV group ONLY) will take place Saturday, September 23rd: - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time). - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time). - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST. (Los Angeles Time). Additional Pre-Alpha times and dates will depend on the results of these initial sessions. Between these sessions , the development team will improve the game according to the feedback and bug reports submitted during the last session. We will try to give access on a regular basis going forward, but please understand we are looking at these as tests and we do not intend to have the server available on a 24/7 basis yet. How will I know when and where to download the Pre-Alpha Client? If you are among those who have access to the Pre-Alpha, we will send an email to the address linked to your Dual Universe account. Instructions for downloading the client will be provided. You will need to be logged into your Dual Universe account to download the Pre-Alpha client. Before you can download the client you will need to agree to and accept the EULA and NDA (which may be part of the EULA). Please note: Downloading and using the client means you have explicitly accepted the EULA and NDA. Can I tell people I am in the Pre-Alpha? Unlike many NDAs, you won’t have to “hide” the fact that you are part of the Pre-Alpha Tester group. The reason is simple: it will already be publicly displayed on the forum and the Community Portal because of your Backer status (Gold and above) or the ATV membership mention. Can I share screenshots and videos from the Pre-Alpha? Pre-Alpha testers can make screenshots and videos, with two conditions: No screenshots or videos may be posted prior to the NDA drop. This means you can make and save videos and screenshots for sharing, but may not post them until Novaquark officially announces the NDA has been dropped. While sharing screenshots and videos with people outside the Pre-Alpha test group is strictly forbidden, we also strongly discourage any sharing between Pre-Alpha testers during the NDA: unless you are 100% sure that those with whom you share screenshots and videos are trustworthy, don't share anything. The reason: if a leak occurs, you will be held responsible for it. All videos and screenshots must retain the “Pre-Alpha” watermark. This is to make it clear to anyone viewing your content that these assets were created using a very early, non-final version of the game. This is important as we do not want Pre-Alpha footage and images to be confused with later Alpha, Beta, and Release versions of the game. Imagine someone coming across Pre-Alpha footage several years from now and making decisions based on what they are seeing because they think it’s final, representative footage, and not test footage. Obviously, we want to avoid this kind of confusion. Failure to respect these conditions may be interpreted by Novaquark as an intent to damage the reputation of the game and the company (with any and all consequences that may follow), depending of the situation. If you feel you have captured footage or images that have a very positive value (like tutorials) and should be shared before the NDA is dropped, you can contact a member of the Novaquark staff by submitting a request on the upcoming Customer Support portal or by sending a private message on the forum to one of the CMs: Nomad, Nunc or Nyzaltar). We will then submit the footage or the screenshots for approval to the upper management. However, if the answer is negative, please respect it. What about the NDA regarding discussions of the Pre-Alpha? Any and all discussions of the Pre-Alpha must take place in the Pre-Alpha area of the forums. This area will be available only to those members of the community who are taking part in the Pre-Alpha. Everything posted in this section will be under NDA. To help people recognize when they are reading or replying to a topic in a section under NDA, the background color will be different from the public forum sections. As we know the forum is not always the best way to discuss, especially in real time, we are currently in discussion to let the community have a Discord server dedicated to the Pre-Alpha. Moderators of this Discord will work closely with Novaquark staff to ensure that only Pre-Alpha testers will have access to it. Of course, the NDA will apply also on this Discord channel. How will bug reporting work? While the dedicated Pre-Alpha forum section will be the place to give feedback on the Pre-Alpha and discuss with other Pre-Alpha testers, we also plan to open a Customer Support portal where all Pre-Alpha testers will be able to report any bugs or technical difficulties they encounter in-game or to while launching the game. To be able to see the existing topics, post new ones or reply to some, you will need to log in on this portal with your Dual Universe account that has access to the Pre-Alpha. As long as the NDA is in effect, no discussion there should be made public. What about the NDA and adding content to the Community Wiki? No information related to the Pre-Alpha can be added to the Wiki until the NDA is lifted. You may prepare texts and assets offline and hold on to them until the NDA is lifted, but absolutely nothing should be posted to the Wiki until such time. The reasons are obvious: this would be one massive leak and some of this information will likely change during the Pre-Alpha. What happens if I violates these, or any other provisions, of the NDA? Violating the NDA will mean your immediate expulsion from the Pre-Alpha and you will be banned from the Alpha and Closed Beta tests. There may be additional consequences depending on the severity and nature of the violation. What are the specs required to play Dual Universe in Pre-Alpha? Please keep in mind that the following configuration is based on the fact that a Pre-Alpha or Alpha version of a game is not fully optimized. These may mean the specs stated here higher than may be required at launch. These specs only apply to the Pre-Alpha and should be considered as being subject to change as the game approaches a final Release version. CPU: Intel i5 (i7 may yield better results) RAM: 16 GB minimum Graphic Card: nVidia GTX 960 (or Radeon equivalent) with at least 2GB RAM. HDD: 40GB required for installation and Cache (a SSD Hard Drive may improve performance) Operating System: Windows 7, 8 or 10. Best Regards, The Novaquark Team.
  6. I thought I would stat working on compiling all the official answers in one post, will organize later etc... if your interested in helping just reply with some info, please keep the format the same with a link to the official answer. New o e got started and stuck to the top, so no need for this one anymore.... board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/1122-dual-universe-faqsources/#entry13140 Q: If everything is editable at a resolution of 1 meter. Then a 100km planet would represent roughly 100000*100000 * 4 * 3.14 =~ 100 billion square meters of surface. If you edit this on a 100meter shell then it represents 10 trilion voxels. If you can store a voxel on 100 octet (and it might be a lot more), then it represents 1000To of data. How will you handle that much? A: The trick is we don't store each voxel on the servers. Each planet is generated procedurally in real time by an algorythm when needed (when a player is approaching or on the planet). So a planet doesn't weight anything in terms of storage. This is exactly how it works in a game like No Man's Sky, the "magic" enabling devs to generate millions of planets without storing anything. Now, as we have editable planets, we go one step further: when a player edit something, we store just the modification(s) applied on the procedurally generated planet. That way, we optimize the space to store all the modifications made by players. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/544-announcement-dual-universe-at-e3-pc-gaming-show/page-4#entry6843 Q: Will there be a version of this for Steam? A: Releasing Dual Universe on Steam is being considered (but no promise at the moment). https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/820-if-i-may-ask/#entry6825 Q: What is the difference between Crowd Funding and Early Access? A: From our point of view: - Early Access should be equal to selling a game, not completely finished but already fun to play and fairly stable. In other words, at least a game that has reached Beta. Those who buy a game in Early Access are consumers who buy a product to play a bit in advance prior to the official release. - Crowdfunding is meant for people who want to help the project and support, people to have suggestions to make to improve the game, etc. They can access the game right from early stages, in order to provide feedbacks that could be taken into account into the dev roadmap. But there are here more as supporters willing to help improving the game than consumers in the first place (but they deserve, of course, the same respect as other consumers!): they understand they are going to enter a game that isn't a nearly finished product or that the fun is not completely there yet. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/820-if-i-may-ask/#entry6825 Q: When will the Crowd Funding Start? A: Crowdfunding campaign: it will be launched before end of 2016. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/812-crowd-funding-soon/#entry6818 Q: When will Alpha launch? A: Alpha Launch: early 2017. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/812-crowd-funding-soon/#entry6818 Q: Will this be a first person shooter or target lock style game? A: We totally understand that First Person Shooter gameplay would be more immersive. However, we have to take everything in account. And when we do, then we have to make some compromise. We want combat, but combat is not the main feature of the game. Only one of the main features, equally important with building, real massively multiplayer system in a single-shard universe, exploration, trading, etc. Once this was sorted out, it was logic that we wouldn't sacrifice things like the massively multiplayer aspect just to have the best First Person Shooter possible. In that case, even if it's not the best combat mechanics (we totally agree on that), target locking combat gameplay is the answer for the best compromise. So it's not a decision led by personal taste, but really the most relevant decision on the technical aspect in our case. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/779-suggestion-please-do-not-use-a-eve-lock-on-weapon-system/page-2#entry6816 Q: Are there safe zones, and are you going to force PvP on players? A: There will be safe zones for those who don't wan't to have PvP activities. We won't force PvP on players, we want to avoid that at all costs. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/725-is-it-just-me-that-kinda-fears-it-will-become-a-sci-fi-ark/page-2#entry6239 Q: Can I build a planet killing weapon? A: The clear answer is no, there won't be weapons powerful enough to destroy planets. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/534-whats-about-fully-destructible-planetsstars/#entry3577 Q: Will Dual Universe will have the ability to cloak. And if so, I pray they have a mechanic that will not allow a player to abuse cloaking by sitting in a system for days on end, even weeks in some cases. It is nothing short of being a griefer and ruins game play for the vast majority of players. A: We plan stealth technology in Dual Universe (even if it's not planned soon). Afk cloaking is indeed a problem in EVE. Psychological warfare is interesting, as long as it involves activity from the player wanting to do it. From what we have analyzed, afk cloaking has been possible because of a few things: - the fact that all players in the solar system are displayed on the local chat. If you see someone you don't know, it migh be a spy, or someone planning an ambush. - the fact that a player can leave from a safe area (space stations) from a unique point (easy to ambush). - the fact that a player wanting to leave the solar system generally needs to use a stargate (also an easy place to ambush). As Dual Universe won't work "solar system by solar system" and there won't be only one point of entry/exit for a safe area, this kind of abuse should have a lot less impact in Dual Universe. And if it still does... well, we keep your suggestions in our papers as possible ways to handle it https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/490-beware-of-the-afk-cloaker/#entry3428 Q: I suck at building, will there be generic blueprints? A: We are perfectly aware that not every player that will be interested in Dual Universe will be a naturally talented voxel-based spaceship designer. or even interested to be one. That's why, right from the beginning, we plan to have generic blueprints available, to avoid that - even it's a very improbable scenario - some organizations recruit all the builders to build only for them. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/521-programming-gameplay-and-continuity/page-2#entry3424 Q: I suck at coding, will there be Generic LUA scripts for me to use? A: We are planning to do the exact same thing for the LUA scripts: having some decent generic ones available to all players right from the beginning, to avoid any monopolistic situation, because not every player is a natural born developer. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/521-programming-gameplay-and-continuity/page-2#entry3424 Q: Will there be resource respawning? A: At the moment, it is not planned to have resource respawning. If for some reason, there are a real necessity to add some resources on a planet, meteorite rains could be an interesting alternative. Unless we encounter some unsolvable scenario where it could stuck players, we will avoid the "artificial resource respawn" at all cost. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/481-resource-respawning/#entry3420 Q: Can I desigin my own personal weapons? A: There's currently no plan to create a voxel editor to develop character weapons. At the moment, character weapons are planned to be mesh-based, and defined by developers. The Dev team has already a lot on her plate with our current goals. Maybe far in the future, but we can't promise anything for now. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/473-personal-weapons/#entry3183 Q: Will DU add in a feature that would allow us to turn on various axes of symmetry while designing ships, either in virtual space or in the living game world? A: This is something that some devs are already discussing: Having the ability to "mirror" a pattern (a saved voxel shape) is something that is definitely worth considering. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/508-axes-of-symmetry/#entry3177
