  4. What is Aesthetic Shielding? It is the art of building a ship so beautiful that tears form in the eyes of the aggressor making it difficult for them to go through with firing. Even if they do, they will inevitably re-evaluate thier life choices and become better people. Joining ASL means having a commitment to creating only beautiful constructs. Not for us the brutal cubes and boxes of simple minds. Everything we make, from simple cargo craft to huge manufactories, will be pleasing to the eye and mind. Everything we write and proclaim will adhere to the strictest of values concerning beauty of expression. Do not mistake us for wilting lilies. We will be entirely willing to go to war to protect ourselves or to improve the universe through acts of applied aesthetics.   5. The current lore of Dual Universe states, that "at the moment of the Grand Exodus, humanity was divided into four main political movements". The first three movements are listed as the "Luminous" (looking for knowledge and wisdom), the "Alphas" (putting emphasis on strength and military power) and the "Emporium" (believing in the power of money and commerce). Those three will have a clear path and presumably character skills in the game - as scientists, soldiers and traders. For the fourth group on the other hand, the "Ethereans", the future is uncertain. As the lore states: "They believe in the power of culture and arts. For them, humanity needs to be driven by dreams, beauty, and ideals before anything else. This is what gives us meaning. They are not against more practical endeavors but like to see these activities as a way to expand and support their vision. They have many supporters but are also often criticized for their lack of pragmatic action." I asked J.C. at the Cologne Meet-Up if there are any actual game features planned for being an "artist" ingame and he said something to the effect of: not currently. Of course you could say that there are more pressing issues in the game's development and most people are probably waiting for things like the player economy and PVP. Yet, I find it interesting that "culture and art" is singled out as one of four political movements in the world of Dual Universe and I would like to see it reflected somehow. There was a bit of a discussion back in 2016 about being a musician, visual artist or entertainer ingame. Mentioned was a "Dual Stadium" for concerts and a "Dual Gallery" for artworks. The consensus was, that it would be up to the players to make art outside of the game and then bring it in the game themselves in one way or another. That seems to still be the idea. But i'm still wondering how you could integrate the professions of an "Etherean" in the game in a more thorough way. There have been MMO games with skill trees for professions like "Entertainer", "Dancer", "Bard", etc. Those revolved mostly around buffing your team-mates and maybe make money by performing. Could something like that be possible in Dual Universe? I don't know. Here's some examples of "Etherean" professions and their potential: Architecture - No-brainer. Building is an integral part of the game. Building something beautiful doesn't really do anything, but being a "decorator" could become a viable career path. Design - It's still unclear in what capacity players will be able to design elements. If it is purely decorative, as in skins, that could again be a career path, especially if you can sell your skins for ingame money. Painting - Displaying artwork from outside of the game on a screen ingame is easy. Actually making unique artworks ingame and selling them is probably a long-shot. Sculpturing - In a macro sense, this is already possible (and seen in NQs videos). You can use the terraforming tool to "sculpt landscapes". Can you do art with that? I don't know. Literature - Well... besides writing a book and presenting it on 1000 screens for people to stand in front of, literature will probably never leave the realm of "outside of the game". Music - Pretty much the same as the literature focus. I doubt we will be able to make original music inside the game. And streaming music from the the outside to the game has its own problems. But there is some discussion about "predefined sounds". Doesn't really sound like the life of a rock star though. ? Theatre & Dance - Now here's something with potential, maybe even for actual skills. You can already build a stage, get a bunch of people and perform a play for an audience. Sound / ingame voice is a problem of course. As for movements, NQ might plan on doing "dance emotes" but I doubt something more complex is in the works. As I said, there have been games with an actual "dance skill tree", but it probably doesn't fit with Dual Universe. Movie-making - Filming something inside the game and releasing it on YouTube is obvious. But playing videos on ingame screens might be a thing too. You can build a movie theatre around the screen and might even charge for tickets. So "movie theatre owner" could be an actual money-making profession in the game. But it sounds pretty taxing. But most importantly: When will the Ethereans rise and take control of the government?

  10. Just wanted to share a little Dual Universe keychain I 3D printed for my car keys. It isn't beautiful and I think it will break in a few weeks or months, but it didn't take long to make and I like the personality it adds to my keys!
  11. Today I finished up a piece of propaganda for us here at "Deleted." While finishing it up I had a rather interesting idea for something to start up on the forum. The idea is to create a place where anyone that wants to show off their skills in creating beautiful pieces of propaganda art! Anyone can submit, just refrain from anything not matching the conduct guidelines set out for us on the forum. Anyway henceforth I guess I will get the ball rolling. . .   13. I thought this might be the best place to post, since it has to do with blueprints, although it is also somewhat of an art question. Does anyone know whether blueprints will be actually viewable in the game, like a schematic, or whether they are just supposed to be electronic files that only make sense to a factory unit? The reason I ask, is because I think it would be neat to be able to make a desktop background / screensaver slide out of your favorite ship blueprints. (Hence the "art" aspect.") I realize that it could pose problems from a blueprint security standpoint, since it might be easier to reverse-engineer a viewable blueprint, but then again, the blueprint wouldn't be divided into voxels, so.... Maybe this could be limited to Master Blueprints, or specific blueprints that have had this option enabled by the original designer? Let me know if you are aware of whether this will work. If not, tell me what you think about the idea!

  15. T h e A l c h e m i s t s -A Profession-Level Org -Not a Government -Does NOT require loyalty or Sovereignty -Not a Mutually-Exclusive Org -Not a bunch of jerks! If you consider yourself mainly a builder, then you belong in the Alchemists. We are a profession-level org, that means memberships indicate to potential employers that you are a specialist. I will be managing contracts with other orgs to craft and design Blueprints for military or civilian tech, and members of the guild will be welcome to collaborate on these contracts or form contracts of their own. In essence this is more like a Crafting Guild. There will be some shared resources, some shared workspaces, and every opportunity to cooperate. There will be a bank of org-owned blueprints and elements that each member of the guild can use and incorporate into their own designs. As the Legate of 4 interconnected orgs, the Alchemists will benefit from the protection of the Free Lancers (Mercenary guild), the resources of the Squires (resources-for-DAC's guild), and will have bases of operation located safely within Terran Union space and Cinderfall. And we will start in Alpha. Yep, blueprints for constructs and elements that a player creates in Alpha and Beta will all transfer over to the actual release. It will be essential for Builder's guilds like the Alchemists to have access to the earlier builds of the game, and I'll have that access. I will make ALL of my Blueprints available to the Alchemists, including the ones I develop during Alpha and Beta, and if curious Alchemists don't have access to those earlier builds of the game, I will be happy to test out and draft constructs based on notes and sketches by request. You have nothing to lose, build with us!
  16. Hello everybody, I'd like to know how the art and the artists are managed in the game (if it is planned already). Could a player develop art habilities (painting, sculpture, music, ornaments, etc), making Blueprints of their artworks and then selling (or exchanging) them to providers, stores, individuals, etc? Could these artworks be admired on exhibitions, museums, festivals, competitions (in Alioth) and be awarded? Could (for instance) exist a music billboard and radiostations, showing the preferences of the public in Alioth, about the songs that music players record for the game? Well, some ideas shown here. I think that if someone is an artist in his "first life", why not being it also in Alioth, and get a profit for it (ingame money)? Greetings. PS: sorry if there is some writing fault. English is not my mother language (although I love it).
