  1. Laser weaponry can easily be made out of plastic. Your X-Ray and metal detector are as good as useless. Scripts are there to allow for people to build such a device. 1. Person steps on Activation Area 2. Control Unit brings up a list of items in the "users" inventory / equipment 3. Security Guard looks at the screen and can tell if the person carries a gun or other items like , let's say, BOMBS. This also reduces sserver load, as it doesn't need any new objects to be added into the game world, using only the existing ones. That's the point of scripts in the game.
  2. You say "people who go to see a racing game", some of us hear "good way to get multiple bounties in one sitting". That's the Black Ops part. Black Ops are carried out by mercenaries, hired to carry out a specific task, no different than a bounty hunter's work. Now you know why Bobba Fett burned down the Skywalker Farm on Episode IV : A New Hope. Vader had to literally burn his past. But fear not, you know what deters Black Ops? Guards - if those guards are not ruffians, or not paid well, or a combination of the two. You may say "but what you speak of about Black Ops is terrorism", to which I say : 1) Terrorism - as a term - originates in the French Revolution also known as "The Reign of Terror", which means "grab people" or "cause accidents to many people" to send a message, hence, it's part of the "Politics" of the game. 2) perspective - the Death Star was a terrorist attack. It's a sandbox game, we gotta knock down them sandcastles. But either way, NQ only has to add 1 command, the rest can be achieved via scripts for what yo uwant. Even automated "weapon holding", for example " you will hand the weapon to the container and when you leave the container will return your weapon to you". So, what you ask, can be achieved. Just don't be fooled and think a security system means safety.
  3. Whi said anything about "chance" ? The way NQ said "Hacking" will work is to make you bypass the RDMS of a construct - that also means, you bypass the "activate role : EVERYONE" for a Detector Unit. That's not chance.
  4. Exactly. I'd say, NQ should add more stats on each element ad a bezier like system of jury rigging (gain some lose some), so jury rigging can create far wider range of possibilities. More or less, like CPUs, with "tiers" acting more like a "base clock boost" or "better TDP". I.e. there's the Ryzen 7 1700, 1700X and 1800X. All three can (technically) reach the same upper most clockspeeds, but the heat efficiency of each one varies as well as voltage associated. An experienced PCMR enthusiast can fine tune the PC to not throttle much, but the 1800X has a far better base clock, thus can be optimised even more. Ofc, better CPU doesn't make you a better gamer, thus a better thruster in DU's case, would not make you better at PvP. God knows we all have seen the "top gear" PvPers in other games who lose in 1vs1 duels from less geared players of the same class cause the "top gear" doesn't know how buttons work. That in my opinion is what customisability sohuld be like - if your engineers are skilled, they can optimise a ship to fly better, using the same parts anyone else ha access to. I mean. As you said, it doesn't tax the engine, and since it's math based on stats o neach element, it also can be easily inputed into the calculations the server doies in case of combat.
  5. True on all accounts. Let's hope NQ's RDMS-hacking they spoke of in GDC2017 is able to make a user "invisibile" to detectors, or at least, control what the detectoirs seem and hopefully, they add new implants we have to switch in our heads so the detector can't "read" our heads properly - cause if hacking is something yo ugot 24/7 without any need for cerebrea limplants, that'd be bad for gameplay in the long run. When everyone can ignore RDMS 24/7 every will train the hacking skill if it means no gear needed for it. Although if I can use an InspectInventory I will find a scripting magic into making a person hand over any gun they got in their possession. Where there's a will, there's a way
  6. @Eternal That's assuming in DU Futurespace Cold Fusion WAS achieved for Deuterium/Tritium to be used for Cold Fusion and "somehow" humanity figured how to bypass the He-2 cockblock that is normal Hellium for fusion purposes to get to a CNO cycle of - potentially - perpetual fusion. Hellium-3 bypasses the whole Helium-2 cockblock Sure, it needs MORE energy to kickstart the process, but it will yield a stable fusion in the long run. Which is fine I guess for DU, you put fuel in, it takes a FLAT amount to start the reactor for Hellium-3 and then the fusion consumes a stable m3 of He-3 every minute or second. And solars winds are excellent for creating He-3 on space rocks Also, antimmatter is created from high energy particles colliding AKA turning energy to mass, both matter and antimatter are created. Don't ned to elaborate, that's not productive, at any rate, for long term fuel - good for warhead payload though, condensing the explosive power, just saying. Also, you forgot to mention something, that only isotopes produce antimatter, not EVERYTHING. No natural antimatter was ever procured though from nature for scientists to study, all the antimatter we have on Earth was procured by CERN or other colliders. Even humans emit antimmater every second, from just drinking water or eating. You don't see the world going up in flames tho
  7. @Razorwire Well, the thrusters in DU are just higher yield technology than the ones used now. Currently, jet engines convert fuel to kinetic energy at what rate? 10% to 30%? As I said earlier, it's just optimisation of technmology over a span of time if you look at it that way. Likewise, same can go for vertical boosters for harrier-like behavior. Sadly, can't go into details as of VTOLs, but let's just say, NQ got you covered on VTOLs if you are into those, their mechanics are solid. As for the multipartial elements idea, that's not currently planned - aside from some modular elements they showcased, like a landing pad, which is split to 3 "tiles", of a corner, filler and outline element. The issue with multipartial or modular elements, is the fact they have to be loaded seperately, calculated seperately and then their LOD would need to be seperate. Given the amount of Elements a construct / city may contain, I can see why they may want to stay clear of that kind of design. I mean, nobody wants to play the game at 15 fps after all. I'd say for "customisability" purposes, they should just allow people who train up engineering skills, to be able to overclock or jurry rig an elemehnt to gain more power out of it at the cost of, let's say, heat, or less energy consumption at the cost of lower high-end output. You can have such mechanisms of customisability AND a stable framerate. This is an MMORPG after all, in sword and magic they call it "enchantment", in sci-fi we call it jury rigging
  8. Also, @Lethys I have to agree with the other guy. Smugglers need a place in the game world... so do traitors >.> While a stash won't be a thing, traitors are a certainty. Why fear of detectors or checkpoints, when the enemy Security Executive Rank 2 is the one who will give you access to top tier weaponry after you are past through?
  9. A. You can always cheat a detector. It's been done since the 70s, it's still done today, you can cheat the magnetic detectors that shops have for shoplifters, it's just a matter of having the right tools. B. You can have clothes with "inlayed" inventories that are, for all intents and purpoes, "stleath pockets" ,meant for you to conceal carry a weapon. This is self-balanced, but since I don't trust people's intelligence, it's "conceal carry", it's not going to go to a combat armor, it's going to go to something cosmetic, like a fancy suit or a default suit that won'te raise suspicion. C. You don't really need a seperate element for the job, as I said, just one command for a script thaty checks a person' inventroy / equipment for a gun and if there is one, an alarm goes off with the name of the perp. The good thing is, that kind of inventory check can also be used for "auto-fitters" when a person respawsn o na mothership and wants to quiickly equip armor from a container. Go near, boom, armored equipped by itneracting with the script, ready to go. It's modular design.
  10. Or just have your territory tile or Construct (like a shopping mall for example) have a specificpoinmt, where yo uactivate a control unit as you pass by. If the control unit you activate can detect a gun on you, it will alert the guard on the other side "the person that activated me has a gun onhis inventory). This though, requires NQ to put in those programming boards they showed on the tutorials to ave a command for "inspectInventory() " so we can set up the systems ourselves. They got the t0ools already as far as "area detectors" go (they showed those on the tutorial videos) all we neeed is commands to turn them as such. I mean, I don't bother playing as a gaurd on a ferry, but I would not want to have to use an "inspect inventory" option every time I have to inspect someone for a gun or a weapon in general, I'd want an automated system. Cause I'm lazy.
  11. You missed the point of performance. It applies across all fields. It's not profitable to mashing atoms to procure antimatter. It's profitable to mine hellium. Unlike Antimatter, Hellium-3 doesn't need stupendous shielding to protect the pilot from radiation, as Hellium-3 is non radioactive and high yielding.. Hence, you hit peak performance on a holistic level,. not just Joules output - there is a reason we don't use the same Uranium that powers Supercarriers IRL, to power our cars, regardless of the more lor less lifetime supply of energy you'd get out of it. Plutonium can kill you by simply doing its job, gas only does it job when it's combusted. And also, reactopr fuel needs a lot of refinement and it's not just naturally occuring. Not to mention, Hellium is very , VERY common element in the universe and Hellium-3 can be an easily accessible fuel, coolant as well as a bunch of other uses. And for DU, it can be easily found on asteroids or moons, and NQ can later even add gas giant harvesting for when they decide to add Gas Giants.
  12. @Razorwire https://dualuniverse.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Dual_Universe_Wiki:Archive/Q%26A_-_February_28th_2017&A_-_February_28th_2017= The Transcript from the GDC 2017. Although, the actual part where he speaks of the tiered system is on the interview part as I was informed, which is not included on the wiki entry.
  13. @Razorwire Yes, but all those technologies DU has are grounded on aspects of physics we already know. Fuel compression is not something crazy. Flying is supersonic (you can check the tutorials about this, you do get more speed with higher altitudes, it's 200 m/s cap on SEA level only and I can't say more cause NDA on Pre-Alpha tests). As for the automation, that's just the lore, with the humans inventing AI which almost took over every aspect of their lives but - lucky for humanity - the AI didn't go Skynet and humans imposed a "no AI" on anything. Although, there needs to be a disambiguation, there's no autonomous constructs (which is a Robot), but there is automation, it's what Lua was and is still used primarily for (even if you can define objects in its programming, but that's a very unrelated topic for this discussion ). So, scripting autopilot to fly the ship while you walk around the ship, yes, but scripting guns that fire whem you are not online, no Also, yes, they have spoken of Tiers and the such on the GDC2017 AMA event JC given. There is a thread where people provided a tanscript of the interview, if I can find it, I will post it here. And by Tiers, I mean "tier-1 small fuel tank" and "tier-2 small fuel tank" (possibly, better compresssion rate on fuel ,who knows). Cheers.
  14. Sure, if they find a way to make the ratio of Power to Newtons ratio work better, the EM-Drive could have a place in DU as a "very high tech, very costly" engine that makes for excellent stealth ships (as you don't show up like a lighbulb when you fire up your thrusters). But I think DU goes for a more grounded "future but relevant" approach, most of their tech is grounded on what we got today, just "sorta better". Remember, Humanity left Earth on the year 2500 CE, it only took 10000 of cryosleep FTL travel to another region of space. It's not 10000 years of technological advancement, more like 500. And last I've checked, crossbows were the first version of the rifle, so, for all inteents and purposes, the only thing that changed from the middle ages till today, is we managed to make crossbows better. Even the railguns the US Navy tests, are nothing but really sophisticated catapults - and rockets have existed since ancient China, so did landmines, grenades and "gatling crossbows" It's about tech being more optiised, so unless they can optimise the EM Drive by optimising metallurgy and metamaterials that can procure more Power-to-Thrust ratio that makes it a more affordable thruster, sure, the EM-Drive might be worth it one day. imho, if NQ wants to make it "out of this world" as a technology for EM Drives, they should make them have a 0.3 or 0.5 or even 0.7 efficiency instead of 0.01, they can tie it to some alien ruins and alien technology, who knows.
  15. But, don't you understand, if I make an alt toon named "ArmyGeneralFanta" someone will get triggered. How dare I?
  16. Both NASA and China have found mN (that's micronewtons, more or less, a fart) of push on EM Drives - which was also a fluke, caused by the very energy going into the object to produce the Newtons of push. EM Drive is not based really on physics we don't know, it's developed and tested based of physics we do know, and in physics we do know, it doesn't really work. NASA does test all possible scientific methods of procurring more push out of engines and so they did with the EM-Drive (Elon Musk doesn't test his rockets on his own after all, his company researches and developes, not tests, NASA does the test cause ICBMs are a scary thing). Saying "EM Drive has something going for it cause NASA done tests on it" is like saying "I was mugged, called the police, thus the criminals are caught already" Funny enough though, Planck-Length is a thing in real life, and planck-length machines (shrinking machines for ease of understanding) are not an "unknown physics", but a very known physics. All we need is a way to engineer such things. It's the same thing with time-travel and teleportation ala star trek, we know how they work, the mathematics behind it are solid, but we do lack the engineering or power source to fuel them. Same goes for the Warp-Drive, the math is solid, all we need is fuel for it. And even if the EM-Drive (somehow) worked as intended and procurred more than a fart's worth of newtons, the fact you need an equal or more perpendicular force to steer a ship or "strafe" it in space, means the EM-Drive suffers from the same issues for "dodging" in Space that normal thrusters do. So, even with EM-Drives, you would still be an easy target if you were to "barrel roll" agaisnta long-range ship. Just wanted to clarify P.S. : Planck Length (named after Max Planck) is the shortest possible distance between two atoms. This is why the nanopacks also have a limit, there is a limit on how much you can compress an object, it's called a Schwartzschild (Austrian names ~_~ ) radius, aka, the point of which an object becomes so compact, it turns into a black hole. So... yeah, in DU we carry possible black holes in the form of nanopacks :| Let's hope future tech doesn't run on Windows.
  17. Actually, you hit a peak ratio of performance at Hellium-3. Nothing beats Hellium-3 as a fuel source. Mainly cause it doesn't relasse lingering radioactivity, thus not "overheating" so to speak the energy processing medium. And yes, Hellium-3 needs fission to release its fuel, so it's a "reactor" fuel to put it in broad strokes. Problem with Hellium-3 - like with any fuel - is scarcity. You may say : "but it's the future, we can make fuel like printing monopoly money!". No we can't, we need to add energy into binding the fuel's atomic bonds equal to the amount you want to release with the fuel, so "making" fuel, is as profitable as literally destroying a dollar to get a quarter. Also, surprisingly, Helium-3 is most likely to be found in space in large quantities - cause cosmic rays easily bakel liquid helium on an asteroid for example - so here's a reason why asteroid mining is profitable. Helium-3 can also be found on natural gas sites, so we can have "natural gas" as a fuel source for like, Tier-1 stuff, with some Hellium-3 harvested in it and hey, if NQ adds "gas harvesting", they can later expand it into gas giant harvesting gameplay In other words, Helium-3 is Space Oil. Democracy is where the oil is.
  18. Movie Synopsis : The Intergalactic hive mind known as Te'Ra Onion - a species of sentient onions - invades Alioth. Anyone sent to fight them, is quickly overrcome by them, as the more layers you remove from the Te'Ra Onion the more tears you get as visions of drama and turbonerding overcome the victims of Onions. The only thing that can turn the tides of salt and tears following Te'Ra Onion everywhere, is a group of drama immune super soldiers, trained in the secret martial arts of Badgeraikido and MemeJutsu, while using the latest in drama extermination technology - Photoshop. Based on a true story of bravery, knavery and 1GB worth of screenshots of the Te'Ra Onion's top-secret discord channels, full of backstabs, frontstabs, sidestabs within Te'Ra Onion and a keg of beer Twerkmotor had to drink in a day to handle not dying from salt overdose. this is, ONIONS.
  19. Given you open your response to my last line of the quote of "Have a happy new year"... You don't have - and never had - a happy year????? That's... not a comforoting thought, I might disagree (very much so) with your Providence carebearisms, but I really would not wish that on my worst opponent in-game. On your other point, I could also link a dozen of posts of you claiming I am "claiming things that NQ never spoken of" (which I linked you quotes and videos and NQ respones) , on two of which occassions NQ responded themselves and spoken out, loud and clear, sayign the same things I was saying, and on any other thread - like this one - people telling you you are wrong. But at this point, you played. One was on your "multicrew is not confirmed" opinios, in which Nyzaltar responded. I guess your short term memory is excued, you clearly have far more important things to occupy your mind than forum responses that shut you down. I guess you really won - or more likely nuked - the debate here. This puts a lot of things in a whole new context... Hope you the best man. I really really do. Hope this year ends the streak (in a positive way for you). Cheers.
  20. Wiser words have never been spoken - on this thread at least. I don't got a problem with people who want to avoid PvP, I respect that. DU is a game that NEEDS RPers and "sandbox skills" people, from people who run industry, to people who run in-game academies (like in EVE, we have EVE University) to all the people who just don't like pew pew and just want to play a sandbox game. That doesn';t mean we should put a safety bubble around everyone. Those people, could also enjoy "safe PvP" in some sort of arenas in-game, where the defeated just yields and doesn't die or lose all their items - hence, "safe" PvP. But that's that. Exploration means danger and banditry. Sure, NQ can add things like in EVE, where you got gun safety levels. and possibly a visual indication when someone has their gun safety off - like a red effect on their nanoformer or something , I don't know, not a game designer, don't know how they convey such things. A way of conveying to people "this person is armed and has their guns' safety off, so they CAN attack you. And hey, if you turn your safety off within a person's territory that means Red Alert, and the person who did that is flagged as "Outlaw" since they are ignoring your "laws" within your territory - good Cops VS Outlaws gameplay imho. Also, in EVE's null-sec, EVERYONE has their safety off - for obvious reasons. You don't go into 1970s Vietnam jungle and have your safety on. But that kind of mechanics demands people to pay attention to the game, so most people would say "NOOOOOOOOOOOO, that's too hard, I need a magical shield around me, or the attacker to pay with their firstborn for having the privilege of attacking me". Which is my problem with the general arguement. It's not a sandbox if we got "PvP flag", it's a Theme Park with voxels.
  21. You claim NQ's words are "my" opinions? Are you serious? You done that in the past, but now you just did it openly and to a serious degree. You ignored the AMA post I linked. You are that much of a failtrain,,,. Quickly, call for help, beg for others to help your losing arguement. You have zero power. You never had and never will have. You can't stand your own ground or defend your own position in a debate. You are ignorant. The summary of your posts is clear by now. From your claims of "10000 years from now the laws of physics will change" posts earlier in your arrival on the forums - which they won't, gravity will never stop working, nor PEGs will ever be invented like in EVE, cause it's physics, you can't input 10 and get 10000 in a closed system - to your claims I am a "specialised minority who doesn't care for the little guy" fallacy - which makes sense, coming from a glorified IT guy from what people in Providence informed me of - to the claims "you don't know of XYZ on the DU topic you speak of" while I provided links, to your being triggered when I pointed out you being a real viper against Chance Revinne and WingspanTT - which grief people for lolzies and do not care, they kill people and send mocking mails afterwards to rub salt on the defeated's wounds and on top of that, make videos MOCKING said people on youtube, people you clearly DO NOT WANT in DU, cause they are better than you in EVE. So, you are a knave, a viper and easily susceptible to marketing consumer, with disregard for people linking you the Kickstarter AMA, Interviews, the AMA Video JC given, the GDC2017 interview given, the presentations JC Baillie given on multiple occasions where he answered all the topics you claim are "not spoken off", to your wanting the DU Convention to be named DUCON - which is the cherry on the top. You also recite Reddit a lot. I guess now we know why you suck at debates. It's hard to have an honest debate when your peasantry can't downvote my comment to oblivion. Also, I know why you got so triggered from my "your boss yells at you" comment. The Providence informants told me that will tilt you easily. And you fell for it, they also said you get fleets baited into cynos a lot - but you got connections so people just tolerate you - but I can't confirm the cyno bait part, although I don't hold it beyond you, you did buy the Stream Deck for no real reason baited by Elgato's marketing, which is the equivalent in money of totallig a fleet in EVE worth of the same IRL money. You know, you failing at being a good scout in EVE after all your years playing it, doesn't make RnK "masterminds of tactics", it means you are just not good enough to scout for fleets. NQ made their stance, harrassment is punished, griefing is not. Deal with it. As long as you don't start flinging poop around, NQ doesn't care if yo ugank a person 10 or 1000 times. Vendettas are emergent gameplay. Keep talking though, you provide lines for the Band of Outlaws tradition of collecting quotes of nonsense and making them into potential ship mottos. In that regard, you are a gold mine of memes. We feed on memes. Cheers, have a happy new year - and I hope your boss gets fired, that guy is an a-hole from what I gather and not the Starlord kind of a-hole.
