Warden got a reaction from Lethys in Radio communication
Given that I do not constantly follow every statement, I'm currently not sure what the official (and then internal) stance on such voice communications is:

People in the community so far would like to have it (for obvious and helpful reasons) but not just few stated they'd rather have NQ work on core mechanics, server tech and other pressing matters first before they should start seriously pondering the implementation of that.

In addition I'm not development nor tech expert in that regard, but at the very least it adds some additional server strain and calculations. How that can be mitigated or compensated or made in such a fashion that it doesn't interfere with stability, I'm not sure. But the more extensive you want it to be (beyond local transmission), the more work you have to put into it.

For example, your spaceport idea requires you to be able to transmit an audio signal to a specific recipient while many others try the same. Obviously just having all people in that area transmit it locally will distort and overload everyone's perception if you were able to hear it all at once, whether actually local or transmitted locally as radio signal. And then, you maybe have to add an appropriate GUI and accompanying mechanics to allow more detailed target selection if there are many players in the area, and so on.

As you can see, your specific scenario already raises at least a few questions about implementation or execution.

I'm all for it. Whether it can be done until or after release, all I hope for that it is technically possible and, if so, that NQ is later willing to implement this. At least a basic local voice comms system that you can scale (set distance within max radius dynamically). This could, if post-release, be paid through the money generated by subs. If nothing else helps, make some sort of "kickstarter thing" for it where people can fund this.

Silly stuff? If they allow embedding Youtube videos onto in-game screens, I bet we'll have no shortage of that.

The "(destroy) because we can" faction should keep consequences of their actions in mind though. Emergent game play works in all directions after all.

I mean just because you can doesn't automatically mean that you should. Seen it often in Minecraft where pissing off the wrong faction got you stomped into the ground. We did that a few times ourselves with people displaying random unprovoked aggression towards us.

You can apply the same principle to any sandbox game with competitive elements and reality as it is universal.

If you just act on impulses or generally take certain gambles or risks, expect to get burned or worse eventually. Of course, sometimes you may win, but it's about survival in the long run, isn't it?

No use winning a few battles if you lose the war and perish as group or larger faction.

    I disagree.

Risk vs. Reward. It's way easier in EVE to do stuff like that because the RDMS there is shit. But even if it's done in DU, then the CEO is to blame because he didn't put enough thought into safety and how to prevent awoxing.

It's somewhat amusing or ironic but I suspect that each time a thread is created about this topic, it might rather make it worse. How so?

Even if your base intent is defense (against it), it will likely generally alert people to the topic. Adding grand stories from other games might probably amaze or encourage people further and those who already know about it... well, simply do.

The gist of it - and my "Illuminati / Shadow Broker" friends from another realm (game) tend to agree with me on that - is that there is no defense against it.

Let me rephrase that: There is no full safety measure that gives you 100% protection once you start publicly recruiting for your organization.
You can only try to lower the risks but it cannot be fully prevented. Someone does not even have to formally get into the group to do it and someone you consider trusted and who was trusted could become fed up and turn on you.

If you break it down it kinda turns into the old "freedom vs. security" debate if you consider applying certain measures.

In the end it's more about damage control, I think.

I also doubt people will truly put all of their cards on the table here. The downside of publicly discussing all kinds of potential defensive measures might help some; but the "others in question" simply get tips on how to improve or what (mistakes) to avoid.

At the end of the day, "the game" will be part of this game due to how DU is set up.

I would not trivialize local voice comms. I'm not saying anyone against it is "wrong" or "How could you!?", of course, I just want to highlight some potential good uses.

Of course, if they cannot implement it or have more dire priorities before they can get to it, that's that. Not the end of the world. But those who used local voice comms can probably understand why not just a few people are in favor of it, should it be possible without too much technical problems or instabilities.

If you think of scenarios like in DayZ it can be a huge advantage to have local in-game comms. One should not always think of the simple game where people play in teams - in online sandbox worlds you can run into strangers at any time in theory and generally being able to communicate with people you run into (in the game) easily or fast cannot really be beaten by external software that is not integrated into the game and local environment.

In a nutshell, if it becomes technically feasible they should begin to pursue the endeavor at one point - many will likely thank them later on. And if not ... well, we can get by somehow. Things worked before the more popular usage of local voice comms, after all.

    Howdy folks!
Welcome back to the charts, I have once again started them and they will be posted, weekly, on Saturdays. This is to reduce the workload and stress that had been put on me.
The charts have been reduced by one, that I didn't think worked with the rest and caused me issues last go around, this was the growth compared to other organizations chart.
I have also made a few of the charts easier to read, like the unique member and total member count chart, with the addition of a count of total accumulation per week. This allows you to see how many new names are actually joining the organizations in the top ten, as well as who is just joining many organizations.

I have also included, within these sets, a data point from my last chart set - this is to see how much growth had occurred in my absence.

I have also made a discord, for those that want the charts immediately, or want to know when they are posted, with links and access to my archive folder.
    Visit the Discord here!

Please, use this to suggest new data sets, chat about the data or even just hang out to chat with people with various interests in this field.

With that all being said, I really want to thank you fine people for the support I received when this was still running, and I appreciate the continued support even when I wasn't.

And now, without further ado, the charts!

Natural selection, I suppose. Or "organizational darwinism", or something like that. It works and can compete or it can't.

I'm curious to see if something like in (western) reality can work on this scale but players need to be willing to do this and organize it, and then in addition, this system would need to compete against others who may likely have faster response times on average and so on.

ah so I guess it's also fair for people who have more time to play to pay more.....by that logic of yours I just switch to this model too....and play with 3 accounts for WAY LESS MONEY than I would pay with a monthly sub. gg, you killed NQ

Also this argument is a bit of a hair-splitting fest.

Willing to pay to play for a period of time, but not willing to shell out for the price for a full month... There is no way the monthly sub is so expensive that it warrants alternative/smaller options. Either the game is worth its full fee or its not, fortunately once the game is actually released, a player would only need to "waste" 1 month's fee to discover that the game isn't something they like.

In this case though, the monthly fee is about as much as a Magic the Gathering player spends in a *week* drafting. This is about the cost of going to the shooting range once for a short session if you add in the cost of ammunition. This is the price of 1 decent meal at a restaurant, or an OK meal if you are drinking. This is about the cost of seeing 2 movies, or 1 movie and snacks at a theater.

Consider that so many leisure activities cost this amount in 1 session, but this fee pays for the full month. Even if you only play 1 weekend session per-week, that's 4x the entertainment-hours-per-dollar as those activities listed above.

I'd say we've exhausted this topic by now.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm wrong, but those three posts from Oct 9, 2016 up there look pretty dern suspicious. Smells like alts if you ask me. Also I realize that was a while ago, but given the fact that people are joining you now potentially as a result of that, I feel like its fair to at least share my suspicions:
All three accounts were made on the same day, all are not backers, all have not made any single post, like, or comment except for on this topic almost immediately after each other (if you hover your mouse over the date you can see the exact time), and all have no profile picture or description on the forums or community website.
Sarenity  : joined 12:10 PM, posted 12:12 PM
HanSolo : joined 12:16 PM, posted 12:17 PM
    JLynn82 : joined 12:49 PM, posted 12:50 PM
The messages themselves are hilariously fake-sounding. I mean, "This Guild looks well organized and put together plus is mulit-gaming aspect is exactly what i'm looking for." Come on. That's a joke, right?
I found no one named HanSolo, Sarenity, or JLynn82 nor any variations thereof in the official 77th Star Empire discord: https://discord.gg/5FDwqpf or in the Steam Group: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/77thEmpire#members , so I don't think these were your friends pretending to join as strangers nor anyone looking for a "multi-gaming" community.

Either they are alts or you have some creepily coordinated and obedient friends.
You do know what happened last time attention was brought to an alt-infested org, don't you?
If those are accounts you made to reserve names for your friends, at least don't pretend to be them and makes posts like that.
In the unlikely case that this is a misunderstanding and those are in fact actual people, I apologize and blame it all on the suspicious circumstances.

This is really a well thought out and structured idea to simplify recruitment on the forum.
However I doubt that it’s going to see much usage, due to the fact that only a small fraction of players actually register to the forum. The few people who post on the forum especially to get themselves recruited mostly don’t read much other topics beforehand, or want to do a more free introduction of themselves. So even if the post is pinned, it might be ignored by newcomers.

However I agree that the current organization recruitment system might is very limited, and a centralized job board would definitely help new players and orgs.
Maybe NQ can integrate your forum-post as a template for a future job board on the community portal. They would just need to add another tab for people looking for orgs, in addition to the already existing tab of orgs looking for people...
This should not be too hard to implement, it would be enough if newcomers could fill out the template, which is then automatically deleted after 1 week to not overcrowd the job board. Also if the player joins an org on its own the post should also be automatically deleted.
    >No moderation from mods necessary.

This is more relevant once the game picks up speed, so it might be far into alpha/beta  before NQ will implement this… But I definitely hope it’s on their roadmap.

I am also in favor of subs if it provides financial stability for devs while securing our virtual future. Given the scope they aim for,  it seems like a fair deal or price to me.

And if you are in a tight situation, there are DAC. Good compromise or enticer in general.
