Borb_1 got a reaction from drizzzt in Third Person
Alright that's a fair argument but let's clear up the positions here for clarity:

    1. Complex landing = More crew roles
    2. Complex landing = more immersive (less complex landing therefore is less immersive)
    3. 3rdPP = Easier to land therefore 1stPP makes landing harder
    4. By implication: DU is "hard earned piloting SKILLS earned over 00's / 000's of hours vs 20-30's" (is this skill training or player skill?!)
    5. picture taking: Should be restricted to other players

Those are the arguments being made, there's about 5 of them.

In isolation the statement more crew roles is well made. But adding it to more complex landing. That component needs examining.

    A) Complex landing is seen in Star Citizen (a space sim which demands as such). It looks BORING. It looks FRUSTRATING. It adds very little immersion beyond perhaps the 1st time or 2. In fact it also reminds me of the CHORE of getting in and out of ships and cockpits which also has realism/immersion but ends up being GRINDY. Multiply by many players many times and it's imo a BAD gameplay design idea. About Crew Roles, this still holds but I don't think this is a realistic way to manage it.
B ) Take a positive alternative: The old Elite game had a tricky skill system of aligning your ship reticle with the rectangle to get into space stations and you'd blow up if you got it wrong. It perversely could be the most risky time of a mission. It was relief to do it successfully but after say x20 there was an upgrade to auto-docking sequence with 3rd person view video recording while the Blue Danude played in the background and you could relax happily as you docked and kicked-back sipping your refreshment.
    C) For sure but the space sim crowd is incredibly niche. Most players just want grindy stuff like landing to be auto- and even 3rdPP view to enjoy the experience of piloting as opposed to millimetres of frustration.
    D) I don't know how the skill-training system will work for Piloting as a skill, presumably though as a part of that maybe that is necessary and a good idea. Doubt it will be so exaggerated hours as you suggest though. Maybe it will also be ship piloting landing skill for different sizes the more you train it? No bearings on this yet.
    E) This is not a good idea. Players like taking pics, like looking at the visual gratification of their ship designs in action and for combat, it just adds frustration whereas 3rdPP adds utility and fun.

I think your positive ideas are:

    I) Crew Roles via Skill Training - How? Not player skill system though.
II) 3rdPP is easier to land but the subsequent is that is appropriate not inappropriate.

But they are independent of your consequents.

Peeling back to the original subject: Landing should be simple given it's frequency and it's link between ship gameplay and non-ship gameplay.

Edit: NQ just tweeted this picture of a ship hangar:

See those ships just floating about, people just want to PARK their ship amongst others in a busy place and bustle about doing things instead of feeling like a bull in a china shop. Maybe there's at least 5 ships parked in there in view on the solo, coop size scale? I've seen videos of SC where it looks like trying to stuff a cow down a rabbit hole or even worse squeezing a ship into the back of the ship and it looks more like trying to get gameplay to work than just working invisibly so that actual gameplay chosen by players can carry on...

Lets show them power of Old Block Ways. Post your best things with nessesary comments and how you plan to rock world of DU with all your experience.

    I'll start.

Most builds are from high-fantasy city project called Kingdom of Merovia. And there is a lot. Mostly mine disigns and global planning/coordination, but some things built (or updated later, when I quit MC) by my great building-buddy angvar -- also he made many of presented screenshots. Ships disigned by several other talented people of our building crew. Lots of people participated during years of building.

You can get quite far with virtualization with qemu I have a windows VM I use for malware research and out of curiosity I set one up for gaming a while ago.
Anti cheats don't flag that they're in a VM and you can get baremetal performance with passthrough. You just need to give the VM enough cores&ram so you have the horsepower to actually run the games. I use Arch, and you can find a great guide for how to set this up on the arch wiki.

Denying that a kickstarter pledge hold the expectation of a return because there is no commitment is IMO not correct. It's much more than hope, you can reasonably expect a return (which sure, will often fall short or through)

This argument however overshoots the comment it follows from as it is simply untrue NQ is not delivering.

Borb_1 got a reaction from le_souriceau in Information Analysis | The SpartanCast
One topic that has had a few fly-bys is: Player-Made and then Player-Run Cities.

    So the questions are:

    1. Will Players make cities?
    2. Apart from the architectural challenge,
    3. Apart from the decorative display,
    4. Apart from the social gathering behaviour,
    5. What else is a reason for players to make cities?
    6. Will cities be protected thus able to grow (from PvP)?
    7. Normally a city develops due to functional reasons:

    * A Trade Centre
    * A combination of Useful Services to people
    * Commute distance of people to their work places
    * Development of layers of social and civic management to organize a city

Namely a city solves a lot of problems (efficiency) but atst creates new ones that need resolving (infrastructure etc).

So looking at points 2-4 there are VISUAL reasons to make cities. However what will be the functional reasons for cities?

Will they be protected zones where Industry-Crafting and the Like can be created next to player housing? That would seem one functional possible reason.
Perhaps cities would be very impressive for recruiting new players if a city has lots of features of interest apart from safety eg a complex tutorial district or advertisement of services/orgs/jobs/markets?

If a city becomes popular would it involve a tax system or rent system? As well as guarantees of safety of property and possessions?

Looking at other MMOs which did cities such as SWG the entertainment factor. For example nightclubs perhaps a bit like a spacestation such as Afterlife from Mass Effect?

These are all questions on this topic to initiate some discussion.

One of the major reasons for cities would be as a major resource sink in the economic perspective of DU. But that assumes a need and hence demand for materials sent to cities. Otherwise conversely, why hawl tons of material into a gravity well when it could be cached in space and more easily distributed without fuel-costs fighting gravity (as well as inertia)?

From an external advertisement point of view a few majestic cities  (curios even) would be appealing and attractive for potential new players.

    * not sure where the best place to post this is (it's not really recruitment for our "org" so . . .), so feel free to relocate it as necessary mods

At the SpartanCast, we try and diversify the type of content we release to cover a broad range of interests and information we believe our audience and the community as a whole are interested in.

We've released close to 30 episodes with focuses on:
    1. Getting to know individual organizations better
    2. Discussions about varying gameplay mechanics
    3. Theories about unreleased / vaguely described aspects of the game

The goal of this thread is to accumulate a list of (NDA-safe) topics, organizations, and mechanics that people actually want to see discussed to fulfill two functions:
    1. We're able to produce content with a focus on things people are interested in learning more about
    2. We're able to work with new organizations and individuals to draw attention to potentially-obscure orgs and topics

We will continue to create content based on our personal analyses of "hot" topics and organizations, but we would love to get some ideas from the community to mix things up.

If you do have any suggestions, feel free to leave links to existing threads, community portal pages, and/or Discords that give us an idea of how we could frame an episode.
Feel free to also just type out a summary (if necessary) of your suggestion if that works better.

There isn't a time frame here, we'll continue to pull suggestions (assuming there are any lol) over time.

Keep it wholesome below yeah? ?

I think the computation overhead caused by user designed oddly shaped ships, and large number of potential objects (and other contributions to server lag -e.g. internet) makes anything involving collision detection in combat a losing proposition. And as mentioned in one of NQ videos, orbital strikes were rejected because it wouldn't be "fair" - meaning people shouldn't be subject to death without any warning that danger is near or was inescapable.

Not having ramming imgame isn't because of weapons of mass destruction but because you can kill large ships with cheap ones with nearly no effort, except manpower.

Not having automated turrets and only a tuned down version (less dmg and less accuracy) isn't because of fast moving ships but because of balancing issues.

If ppl can build bombs. They will do it. And at some point, no matter the initial cost, it'll be cheap so they will just throw them around.

    You win in MMO when:

    1) Having lots of fun;
    2) Making new real friends (even if they 10.000 km afar);
    3) Quit just in time, with bit of bright sorrow, but firm hand at "uninstall"...

Everythings else will fade away in global scale of things.

    Book of Creation, Chapter 6

Lo my children, the AllFather has revealed his wishes to our beloved leader in a vision.
In the vision he was at the Citadel of the AllSpark, inside the temple of the AllFather.
There the AllFather revealed the holy land, the place called “PVP Zone” and tasked him with taking this area in his name.
We shall therein create a temple with a shrine containing a most holy relic, some of the pure essence of the AllSpark itself!
Ye shall take and hold this area my children, make it ours! Guard it with zeal and let no foe enter its holy realm!"

    Praise the AllFather!

It has become apparent soon we will be able to battle each other in Dual Universe. Our weapons are being forged as we speak, and usher in a new era. This era is filled with mysteries and woes the likes of which DU has never seen. However in the dark mist of the unknown has come a light. The light of the All Father, and his vision to our Master Architect over what is to come. The light shows us what we are to do. When the first days dawn on Alpha 3, the Third age of DU, New Genesis will position itself near the Space that is contested. From there, we will launch our first crusade.

    The First Crusade

This crusade will aim to cleanse the conflicted lands of its dreadful blight... and burn away the non-believers like the cancer that they are. In a vision our Lord has sent to us a sign... to claim the Lands of War as our own. In it we will place a Shrine to his Majesty and we will endeavor to protect it daily... If it falls down we will build it again... if we are defeated like a great Phoenix we will rise from the ashes. The Holy Chosen of the All Father will know NOT the pain of defeat or fatigue of failure. We are charged in keeping his Holy Land Pure, and protected from the filth of the non-believer to which we shall not Fail.

Sharpen your swords Brothers... load your rifles... and warm the engines of our behemoths of war. The opening salvo of the First Crusade are upon us, and Non shall survive our Purge!
