Legate reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in My Community Has Withdrawn Our Pledges
    Hi everyone,

As the topic is derivating seriously in the last pages, it's going to be closed.
To all those who are wondering if the current level of funding already include the pledge withdrawal, the answer is yes: The pledge amount is updated in real time. If someone unpledge, it's immediately reflected to the amount pledged on the Kickstarter page.

    @ChipPatton:

To sum up your point of view:
    1) Our communication is canned because we didn't reply directly to your community's experience.
    2) You didn't try to discuss with us because the previous reply was canned in your opinion.
    3) You said the PLEX is inefficient against goldfarming.
    4) You assume that I'm convinced DAC is the perfect too and that, apparently, only my opinion counts in the Novaquark Team.
    5) You consider that globally we are non-caring.

So to address this (very) subjective declaration:

    1) We read your community experience and we understand that your experience with PLEX hasn't been fun. However, just looking by the prism of one experience, and refusing to look at the bigger picture is something we can't do as game developers: The problem you encountered is something that you would have encountered sooner or later even without the PLEX existence. Why? If unfair players want to harass a specific group and they have money for it, yes, the official staff can close as many accounts as possible if those use gold farming sites to get a lot of in-game money, but the unfair players will come back again and again, as money is not a problem for them. This is a neverending story. As an EVE veteran player, you probably won't refute the fact that you can harass anyone with fresh new toons, only a few hours old, in Tech1 ships in EVE Online. Again, even without the PLEX/DAC system, the problem remains as a whole, only less visible. So what you consider as a "canned reply" is just a different opinion from yours.

    2) Avoiding to start a discussion just because we have a different opinion from yours, and that there are chances it wouldn't go your way... It has indeed no chance to convince the Novaquark Team. Self fulfilling Prophecy here. But you have no right to complain if you didn't even try.

    3) Three big developers/publishers seem to disagree: CCP, Blizzard and NCSoft (Carabine studios).
Beside that, as gamers, we didn't experience the consistent huge amount of PLEX/gold selling you're mentionning in EVE (Yes, we have EVE players in the team). Do you have something to back your declaration about PLEX system being inefficient beside your own words? If it's the case, we are interested in this data.

    4) The Community Manager status seems to have been misunderstood here: having a personal opinion and making the communication (both ways) between players and the Novaquark team are two different things. Whether or not I'm convinced of something is irrelevant in this case: If players have concerns about one aspect, I transmit the message to the team. If the team has an official stance on a topic, I transmit it to the players (the reason why you received twice globally the same answer). Now, while the team won't change a feature as important as the DAC system on a whim, if some solid concerns followed by facts are given in a well-argued discussion, everything is possible (except coming on what has been already promised to other players such as Kickstarter DACs). However, loud voices and threats of unpledging without solid reasons will not affect game design decisions.

    5) Just because we have a different opinion doesn't mean we are non-caring. We care about every opinion. However, we are also realistic about the fact that we cannot satisfy everyone. Nobody can.

If you have something else to discuss with us that are not:
    - Your (unfortunate) experience on EvE Online.
    - Assumptions of the real intents of the Novaquark Team (like implying the DAC system has been chosen by greediness, when the game is free, the expansions will be free and there will be a free trial period when starting the game... not really a good way to start a reasonable discussion with a developer).

Then by all means, send me a private message on this forum and I will transmit the message to the team for discussion.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

I actually discovered this on pure accident. I was wandering the dunes of the internet browsing through anything space based, found nothing. When I went to Amazon, I  happen to get information on it via a review of a random item. Forgot that for a while and continued my search. When I was searching google for some information, I found the suggestion and remembered the review. So I gave it a visit and now here I am. Weird eh?

Legate got a reaction from Seraph in Ship Titles/Classes
Hello everyone. Just got back from vacation, while resting in my Arkship while waiting for the WiFi to reboot, I was thinking about what would you name your ship and what catagory would it fall under. Mike wanted to help, couldn't find him when he tried to refuel the ship. He did leave me a pencil and a notebook, so I just write down some ship names when I think about them and where they fall under. I created my own list of ship classes for my business...if my Arkship ever lands...

Here is the list of catagories I made, feel free to add on your own classes of ships. I will share some of the ship names, but not all of them...

    DRONES
A.C. - Artificially Controlled: These drones usually go as missiles, small fighters, or just a scanner. A.C.s are meant to be remote controlled or put on a set course.  L.A.C. - Large Artificial Craft: These drones are larger than their A.C. counterparts. Instead, these ones are designed as large fighters, turrets, and mining bots. TRANSPORT
L.T.C. - Light Transport Class: This category is meant for personnel, cargo, H.V.T. (High Value Target)/V.I.P, or prisoner transport. These ships are meant to travel long distances while carrying a small amount of cargo. M.T.C. - Moderate Transport Class: These ones can carry more than the L.T.C., including vehicles, drones, and S.L.Vs (Mentioned later) H.T.C. - Heavy Transport Class: The largest, but slowest and least mobile (jump wise) of the category. These are meant to carry military-grade S.L.V.s, Mechs, Fighters, and even L.T.C.s (depending on the ship) P.T.C. - Planetary Transport Class: Meant for either planetary evacuations or ICBMs. They are meant to carry a medium amount of transport at high speeds, but have low fuel. FIGHTERS
A.C. - Artificially Controlled: MENTIONED ABOVE F.C. - Fighter Combatant: These ships are built to be aerodynamic and swift enough to deal damage and get away from threats at a fast speed. S.C. - Stealth Class: This brand of ships can be applied to any of the ships in this category   D.F.C. - Defense Fighter Class: These ships are heavy, pack a lot more firepower and can take more. At the cost of mobility and jump range. CRUISERS
There are only 3 cruisers allowed to be made public at this time. More information will be disclosed. Some ships may be restricted from being viewed at any time.
Cruiser - Gerven: A mid-class cruiser meant for military escorts, blockades, or peace keeping operations. This ship can hold 500 gunenrs and 30 pilots. Cruiser - [REDACTED]: This cruiser is meant to carry personnel that cannot be lost by any means, CEO [REDACTED] has one stationed in his base in case of compromising of base or full operation. They're the smallest class of cruiser, but almost as armed as Gerven Cruiser - Revere: An assault cruiser that can cover numerous areas at once due to it's long range weaponry and huge chassis. It can house over 900 Gunners and 70 Pilots. HEAVY
D.C.S. - Destroyer Class Ship: These would have been classified as Cruisers, but are too heavily armed to be as mobile as a cruiser. Example of this is the Flak. D.C.S. - Flak: A massive space cannon that can be towed by Gerven. This cannon is capable of blowing a hole through a capital ship. The ship itself is REALLY slow and cannot do even medium jumps. SLV
Suitable Land Vehicle: This category is for planetary-based vehicles. S.L.V. - Hound: An ATV meant for rugged terrain, equipped with a turret on top to fend off drones and smaller fighters. S.L.V. - Fiend: A light tank built for subtle terrain, can be equipped with an artillery cannon for long ranged combat. MISC.
Planetary Annihilator - Black Sun: This massive station is too big to be called a ship, yet it somehow moves. This station is meant to lock into a planet via pegs. Mechanized Suit - Prometheus: One of the largest Mechanized Suits to be currently build, mostly used by Planetary Defense Forces. The suit is capable of grounding larger fighters using EMP fields.

Legate reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in DevBlog - Organizations: build your corporation, faction, nation or empire!
(Posted Friday 20th of March 2015 on the DevBlog)

One of the ambitious and new aspects of Dual Universe is that traditional organizations that are found in other video games, like guilds, nations or corporations, should actually emerge in the game. This means that we have to design a generic structure to represent the union of several players, without biasing it towards one particular type of organization or another. The term we use to designate this structure is "organization". A state, a city, a guild, a nation, a group of pirates, an alliance, etc, are all organizations in the game. They differ in the particular way they specialize the generic definition, and in doing so they specify political orientations and implicit organizational goals. Let’s have a look at how it works.

To start with, organizations are divided into legates and members. All legates are not necessarily members, and vice-versa. The legates literally own the organization, which is divided into several shares that are distributed to the legates. Members don’t own the organization, but they have what we call “roles”. Roles are defined by a set of rights, duties and privileges that apply to members. A member can have one or several roles (and, as an legate can also be a member, there can also be roles for legates, but not always), and a role can be fulfilled by one or several members. Roles can be organized hierarchically, so that sub-roles inherit their default set of rights/duties/privileges from their parent.

One could say that legates are making decisions regarding the organization structure, while members are more in charge of running the organization. The mechanism by which legates make decisions is voting, with a weight based on the number of shares owned by the legate. A delegation system enables certain legates to gather the voting rights of other legates. This delegation can be limited in time or not, and can be for every vote or for certain types of votes only. Note that the wording used here, “vote”, induces a notion of democracy, but this is not necessarily the case. In an organization where all legates have permanently delegated all their voting rights to one single legate, you have a de-facto dictatorship. Intermediary cases involve a parliamentary system, where a subgroup of legates concentrate the voting rights of all the others, but none of them can rule alone. All nuances are possible.

There are several types of votes that legates can cast, but one crucial type is about creating roles and assigning/revoking members in those roles. Other types of votes involve approving new legates or revoking them, deciding whether organization shares are tradable or not, and many subtles details on the voting system which are meant to prevent obstruction situations.

Roles, as we said, are about rights, duties and privileges. Rights are defining what a member can do with the organization properties. Can you open containers? What type of containers? Can you access the bank account? Can you delegate your rights to other members? Can you fly ships owned by the organization? Can you control the organization territory system? Can you create subroles? Can you hire/fire members? etc. Duties are things like paying taxes on your in-game revenues or when using certain organization property, obligation to deliver a certain amount of certain assets per month to the organization, etc. And finally, privileges are things like salaries, insurances in case of death, protection in case of aggression, and other practical in-game benefits.

And last but not least : legates and members can be organizations themselves. As such, organizations can be hierarchical, like an alliance, a federation of alliances, or any kind of union.

Now, what can you do with this? Let’s try to build a corporation: you have a board of shareholders, representing all legates through delegation. They elect a CEO, who is a member with a special role that grants him/her the right to create subroles (head of marketing, head of RH, etc) and who will run the company. Each member gets a salary, and the profit of the company is shared among the legates with a dividend mechanism (voted by the legates). This is pretty close to how a real company works. Now, can we imagine creating a democratic nation? In that case, every legate has only one share of the organization and is also a member. Voting can happen through parliament representatives through the delegation mechanism by the legates/members (same thing here). Member roles’ duties include paying taxes, and privileges include possibly a minimal wage (sort of “salary”). A president role can be created and granted subrole delegation powers and full access to the nation’s assets. This president can create roles for prime minister, ministers, etc.

We will provide default templates for typical organizations, but it’s easy to figure out how you could create an interplanetary alliance of planetary organizations, themselves organized in a hierarchy of nations, cities, etc. Corporations can be members of nations, with specific roles separating them from regular citizens. And you can also structure corporations in a hierarchy of conglomerate, trusts, etc. Now, can you imagine how you would like to create your own organization, your own political system, your own subdivision between legates and members? We hope to see pretty amazing things emerge from this, let us know what you think!

    General overview
Vulture Corporation intends to provide work, products and services in the following categories listed below. With former root in another contested region (competitive Minecraft, formerly), we look to the stars in the Exodus from Earth to regain a stable footing and to offer our customers and members a lasting experience they can look at with pride.

Career? Career starts here. For people from all over the galaxy. It does not matter where you are from, but often, we have or had members from the places shown above, with a focus on but not restricted to European heritages.

We're dynamic and next to qualified motivated employees, we also look for contractors and partners. You are interested in working with us? Simply contact us - while our promotional hubs listed above offer more information and serve as central spectrum presence and hub for us, we prefer to actively engage in conversation with potential future employees, contractors and partners. This is the best way to find your place here and to ask any questions before submitting an application!

    But why consider signing up?
Our central team is currently small but growing and we want to offer our employees an optimized experience. Dynamic profit distribution is one thing, but the most vital part is that our employees can take responsibility. You think you're team leader or department management material? If you can prove it, the spot can be yours. You prefer to specialize in specific tasks? No problem, specialists are our backbone.

    Who do we look for?
With our new strategic goals provided by the board, we first and foremost look for potential leadership and management material to establish a working foundation for the Corporation. While we wouldn't say no to fitting specialists who focus on specific tasks, in the long run we need a competent number of managing staff that help shape the style and direction of the Corporation. You should therefore apply with this in mind.

    How can you apply?
The first step here is simple: Contact us via »private message to find out if and how we can move forward together. While we currently overhaul and generally offer an application system, at this time we prefer the direct interaction with potential applicants.

⚠ So what is Vulture Corporation in a nutshell?

Vulture Corporation is a small but slowly growing player organization, formerly in Star Citizen and now Dual Universe.

Most current members are from European timezones but it should not be a deterrent for others as we want to recruit internationally for a broader coverage and experience - we did this before after all in a Minecraft server community years ago where we were very successful, with members from the US to Europe and Russia. Dual Universe could be the perfect "reboot" for us in terms of sandbox roots.

We want to highlight the fact that we want to support and engage in roughly moderate levels of RP and have an immersive experience. After all, this group was created by roleplayers initially. Initial members had broad RP experiences with both elements of active and passive RP so today we strive for "immersion". An immersive experience is vital for us and can contain active and passive RP alike. We want to bridge worlds where people that are not fully and those that are fully into RP can get along just fine and enjoy what is to come in Dual Universe. While I consider myself as modest person I think the best example of how we feel about RP and what effort we want to invest is our multimedia such as promotional videos or AI contact videos. Feedback so far seems to tell us that we're on a good path regarding that. There is a lot of interesting and even great groups and multimedia out there but I did not see the same style elsewhere so far, so I think we're somewhat unique in that area.

We currently have a few members in reserve and do not specifically focus on Dual Universe at this time - obviously, given the lack of content or accessibility yet, but we always look for alternatives. In between members can play what they have together, for example we recently dipped into "7 days to die" where a member provided a small dedicated server. Perhaps you can bring a new addition on the table as we wait for DU or you assist us with multimedia and specifying company lore more. To stress it, however, our "primary games" we wait for are still being developed, we have no hard alternatives.

We so far have a flat hierarchy on an OOC basis and prefer a healthy inner social climate where de-escalation is key to preventing notable conflicts in the first place.

Chances are you're ultimately not interested or part of a group already and simply taking a look, but in either case we're happy about feedback. What should change? What is right just the way it is? Let us know. You might just get it back later when it matters to you.

I believe this should suffice for a more or less solid overview so far. If something is unclear, simply ask. We don't bite, and with that said, I thank you for your attention.

An underground city buried deep inside a planet sounds more like a plan than a suggestion, as I'm sure such a thing will be possible!

As for a Starkiller base, I'm not so sure. The Starkiller base was roughly 10 times larger than the first Deathstar. The first Deathstar was roughly 150klm in diameter. The second one being almost three times the size. (To put that in perspective, the first Deathstar was bigger than the biggest size available for a default Space Engineers planet (which is 120klm in diameter)

So now back to the Starkiller base, that's about 1200klm in diameter. While such a planet size probably will not exist in DU, (if it does, I will eat my keyboard) creating a weapon capable of destroying entire star systems in a game full of star systems is incredibly overpowered and unpracticable for the server. As such a server would already be using a lot of processing power, a Starkiller base would probably not work.

    Sorry to disappoint

    Anyway, welcome to the forums!

I think tech trees when thought of as "research" and developing new technologies introduced to the game is something I think is essential.

It takes years to develop high tech industry and output devices such as the Atomic bomb, and future propulsion systems such as FTL, and Jump.  to have a craft system that allows the research of new technology definitely would invigorate builders such as myself to the science and research of new technologies thru trial and error, and discovery of new elements; not to mention the discovery of alien technology recovered.

Also, having a character that has developed a wide band of technology know how could become very important to corporations, and governments that may develop in this game.  I think finding alien components and learning to reverse engineer them and then construct a working model is a side game I am willing to play.
