The_Kurgan reacted to Hagbard in RESET NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT - Discussion thread
Basically DU is a grinding game. You invest your time to achieve progression. NQ promised that under all circumstances that investment would be persistent. That's why most of us invested so much time in it.
By breaking that promise, i lost my trust and probably won't do that investment of my time again. I don't even know how many thousand hours i spent to progress.
The reasons they state for this being a must, are weak. Honestly, i don't care if any "exploited" stuff that people gained stays in the game or not. there will always be a lot of players with more Quanta or other possessions in the game. In the end that is NQ's problem. If they did not act with a small rollback after accidentally giving away Warp Beacon Schematics for a way too low price.
And if people used lots of alt accounts to make money with the missions, i would say. clever.. they invested their time into that game mechanic when it was possible and made a fortune.
I personally did not benefit from any of those Exploits and have never been a mission runner. So why should all players be punished for that? Just because there is too much quanta or elements in the game? Come on NQ there are enough possibilities to resolve that.
The way they are doing the reset, is in my opion just a desperate attempt to make money with new player subscriptions,by giving the max "bonus" to anyone who now invests fresh money into  the game. And by doing that they accept the risk that a majority of senior players will just quit.(financially not a huge loss for NQ with available  DACs for a lot of those senior players.)

If they want to give new players a fairer chance for fast progression without having to compare themselves to senior players.. Just create a 2nd system, make it extremely expensive (energy or time consuming)  to transport mass there and have a new different currency there. problem solved without breaking promises. New players could spawn there if they want and build up that system.
Senior Players could travel there accepting the price and knowing that their Quanta would be more or less worthless there.

Please change this schematics mechanic!  I absolutely love this game and it has captured more of my attention than any other game.  But, I cannot bear to play it now.  I was literally sitting there wondering what to do as I am a solo player.  Can't mine to make money, just need to wait for the miners so nothing for me to do.  Can''t try to build ships because I have no money....need to wait for the miners.  Cannot start industry with little ore I DO have because I have to wait days for the schems!  I am literally paying a monthly subscription to watch my game play itself.......  I have to take a step away for a while and hope NQ sees our response to this and makes some changes.  This really breaks my heart!!!

It might not be a bad thing if NQ were to take a step back and consider whether people will accept "lock and fire" mmo style combat.  Which has always been the plan for all combat in DU including Avatar vs Avatar.  There has always been a bit of cognitive dissonance in the community when it comes to accepting that.

Maybe it's not worth it to spend several years developing "lock and fire" AvA combat, if everyone is just going to hate it.

Construct vs Construct PVP still needs a lot of work, and especially some depth and specialization.  But it seems like the majority of the people complaining about it simply don't like the fact that it's lock and fire.

People who are drawn to the game simply because of the words PVP aren't interested in hearing about technical limitations, they just want realistic combat.  But i don't know what NQ is supposed to do about that.

I just ended up getting auto-charged for $40 for two accounts at x3 months each. If you wipe, will I get a refund of all my money spent during beta? Would be a non-issue if this wasn't a monthly sub persistent universe/mmo

I paid monthly for a persistent game. Are you telling me that was a lie?

I have never read a bigger pile of one-sided bullsh*t basically advocating for full wipe in order to easily do away with schematics.  Just announce the decision and get it over with.

At beginning of beta it was announced "no more wipes except as required for updates" (like the mining update that was done).  So if NQ do decide to wipe, it would be yet another promise broken.  This also completely ignores that people have been paying monthly to play...

As for "removing unfair advantage" and "level playing field". These are fallacies to help people sleep better at night.  The players with the know how will return to the positions of abundance they have now in short order.   There will always be "haves" and "have nots".   All a wipe does is a slap in the face of the people that put time into the game after being told a wipe would not happen.

Make a system that creates schematics rather than remove them.  The problem with schematics, like the markets, is that they do not give player agency.  A player cannot make a schematic at all, they have to be bought.  Make science research a thing.

Cons for wipe have already been mentioned:   As I said, the "NQ thoughts" are heavily aligned to a wipe disregarding promises and small details like leaving an empty world, avid supporters of the game just leave, and paying customers just get their stuff removed.

What a wipe also does is remove the history of DU such as it is... like Thoramine.  Deleting a piece of DU history like that is unforgivable.

The_Kurgan reacted to Yoarii in NQ I am extremely disappointed with wrecks.
I haven't done any wreck searching myself, but I agree with previous posters. Make salvaging a viable game loop for people to enjoy.

However - the game also needs an element sink. Once built, a ship is forever unless you PvP. There's such a huge amount of elements in player's pockets right now it's not even funny.

Add wear and tear to elements and let us RECYCLE them into the a percentage of the parts they were made of (not ore). This would open up for another game loop between salvager and manufacturer.

The_Kurgan reacted to Nosomu in NQ I am extremely disappointed with wrecks.
I too am disappointed with the space wreck system as it’s currently implemented. When I read about them in the dev blog, I was expecting frequent spawns that would open up a new salvaging loop. I also thought that they would be relatively lucrative wrecks that fairly compensated salvagers for their time (relative to the other game loops). However, I spent over 16 hours searching for wrecks after the patch dropped and didn’t find a single one. I was then told that space wrecks are something to be stumbled upon rather than actively searched for.

I am very disappointed that this is the case and I have given up on looking for these wrecks until something changes.

Suggestions to make space wrecks more interestIng and enjoyable:

-Procedural spawns of the wrecks in the paths of transiting vessels at random time intervals (within, say, once every 1-2 hours).
-A specialized abandoned construct radar that has a passive range of 10+ SU.
-Exclusive elements that can only be found from salvaged wrecks (i.e. a new variant on existing elements or a new tier of elements that cannot be manufactured.
-Alternatively, exclusive schematics of these element variants.
-Unique ship spawns that have buffed attributes compared to what is normally available in the game world (i.e. lvl 6 equivalents of handling buffs)
-Or, just more frequent spawns that have a higher payout to match other activities in-game.

I like this, you are absolutely right. But by the same token. If you are flagged as a known pirate maybe you should be banned from the safe zones and markets. If you wish to be a marauder and pirate you should have to live like one. There should be consequences/risks for your piracy the same way you say there should be consequences/risks for entering a PVP zone. I would even take it a step further and say that as known pirate you should be K.O.S. ANYWHERE even in the safe zones. Lets be real. Pirates werent rolling into Boston Harbor or pulling up at the pier in London to run into the bar have an ale or two.

I keep hearing PVPers use the word "challenge" then when I see them in the PVP zones they are either  firing on a ship that gives them ZERO profit for the cost they are accruing, or they are ganging up 10 to 1 on another ship.  Then they talk about risk versus reward. They spend 10s of millions of quanta in ammo and repairs to take a ship that sold as a token for 1 million quanta. Be honest at least. It's not about risk versus reward, Its about stroking a pathetic ego in most cases. Or pounding on their chest on Twitch and Youtube.

PVP should have serious consequences too.

I like the idea of a repair system that you fit to ships, and then you just put scraps into system. It comes online when taking damage, and amount repaired and speed of repair still denoted by the type of scrap in the system.

It's a bit off topic but I agree. The thing you forget in this gameplay mechanic is that you need the engine with you in order to replace it. How many engines are you willing to risk bringing with you and take up valuable cargo space?

The only realistic way to make XS and S core ships viable for PVP  is to give them specialized weapons. IE: Torpedoes and Bombs. They should have to carry them as a heavy payload. They should be limited to small numbers of ammunition. This does 2 things. It gives the smaller core ships SOME value in PVP Combat. It forces larger core ships to equip some smaller weapons more capable of hitting the smaller ships.

Not every person interested in PVP wants a battleship.

    No its not.

If you see a "abandoned" construct you can walk all over it and explore it, it being a base or a ship.

But you cant stay there, by hidding or logging out.

This means that you should not "EXPLOIT" this mechanic to cause harm to that player and his ship.
You cannot use your logged out avatar to track a ship going into the pvp zone.
You cannot use your inventory mass to cause mass issues to that player.

In the end its quite simple to understand: if your action is going to cause damages to that player, you can be banned....

If you fail to understand this simple thing, either you have some heavy cognitive issues OR you want a excuse to use this exploit to make someone miserable in a non fair way.

Either way, you should not be allowed to play.
