  1. No one is disrespectful to the devs, many do have a thing or two to say about NQ. The two are not the same, even when some within NQ who mostly are messengers anyway seem to take it all a tad too personal. I have no doubt the few actual gamedevs NQ employs do what they can with the material they are given. It is the decision makers who seem to not really get it. The game released in early access "Balpha" last year and many playing are paying a monthly sub to play the game, not to test it. Most of us who choose to back the game early to actually help in testing and progressing the game have long since stopped playing and even left.
  2. I am sure they allready made the decision to wipe shortly before release. As they have, they wil/can allow a good level of disruption and damage to the game as they bring in the mechanics they plan to have ready at release. And all of that is textbook Alpha stage game development where such wipe happens shortly before beta (which is what release will actually be).
  3. Of course they do, its why the argument you lose everything on a wipe is really not justified at all. This patch makes massive changes to the game which are pretty much unsurmountable for new players. The fact that many who are still active have been maining like madmen prior to the patch because they knew what was coming is a major hint why a patch would have been justified. This amounts to the same effect creeated by NQ by not properly fixing damage from exploits several times in the past year, only now it benefits ALL players in game prior to Demeter. Regardless of labels, the game is pre-alpha. Part of pre-alpha especially is that you make massive changes which can be disruptive and damaging to the game if it was live. You resolve that by a wipe. That's why I am sure that is coming anyway but also think that a wipe here would have been entirely justified from a development point of view.
  4. LOL.. Clearly you have not been paying attention, you and NQ seem to make a good couple as you act alike Many have been addressing the many issues with this patch for weeks, NQ just choose to ask for feedback early on and never cared to even engage or consider any of it, outside of removing scans . Mostly "you just do not understand" applies here and no doubt ion a few weeks we wil get another "we heard you" post, pretending all of this is new to NQ.
  5. Because NQ is trampling water, throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something will stick. Unelss they are really good at hiding it, there seem s to not be a long term plan at all and it's all about scambling to try and make something work long enough to mak eit to the next billing cycle. MMO game design is long term planning, it mean you set a goal for 2-3 years from now and start buidling towards that. It is what makes games like EVE persist where changes seen now were part of a plan put in motion literally 5 years ago. Regardless of what label NQ puts on DU, it is a released live service game for whcih they charge people money to play. Yet they are still showing al the signs of being in a very early alpha stage where they really do not yet have the full picture of where the game needs to go. Frankly all this finds it's origin in this statement by JC in 2014: SOURCE The core of DU is designed to be literally a sandbox, it is not designed to have content provided or created by NQ, this is why as they found out that this plan would never work, all the things they put in place are duct taped on instead of integral parts of the game design. From the above quote JC also clear never really understood what emergent gameplay means, and that hold true for a lot of things NQ has done and seems to still do. Emergent gameplay is what happens if players take EXISTING game content/elements and use it for entirely different purposes, creating actual new gameplay in the process. It is not "here is a box of sand and a bucket, now you go build a massive castle because we have no idea how to do that". NQ is a tech company all right, problem is their tech is seriously flawed and not up for the job it was envisioned for. And instead of fixing the tech, they are now scrambling themselves to try and create the content which they discover is not really possible due to their core tech. And so they need to strip it all back to basics and nerf everything to the point it becomes a UI panel with no actual interaction with the world at all. DU is still a good idea but he execution is severely flawed. IMO it can't be fixed without tearing down the house and for a huge part starting over.
  6. Which is why NQ should have done a wipe with this patch. But they refuse to understand that what they are doing is destructive to the game It's the same with just resetting mining talents. How does that make sense when mining "the old way" is still a thing in game? What if I want my character to be able to keep mining asteroids AND use mining units. NQ once more both did not listen to feedback here and never considered many suggestions on how to better manage talents. Giving players the OPTION to respec once every 6 months (which happens to mostly align with major patches) is not unreasonable, actually pretty common in today's MMO games and a good QoL as well as being extremely low cost as far as development time unless your code is a total mess. It really looks like the scans removal decision was a fluke, an accidental good choice by NQ, as otherwise they remain as ignorant as ever. I do predict another "we heard you" moment in a few weeks, possible shortly before Xmas, where they overreact and dial things up way too much. They need to balance this thing and wipe. The existing player base will still have a _massive_ advantage over new players once a wipe happens but ta the same time, it gives new players a chance to both latch on to more experienced players and get going at a mor balanced pace.
  7. Of course the beta keys were free, even impltying that "you paid for them" is nonsense. Backers have acces to the game at no cost up until release and so does anyone using one of their beta keys. The backpacks were preorders for DAC, they all contain DAC with a value representing the pack's cost of purchase, at least they did up until August last year when NQ devalued them by 50% without asking and now reduced that damage to 30% by upping the sub cost. Beta keys are perks/a bonus, which come with the pack, just like all the other extras.
  8. I'd wager that a lot of those saying they'd leave in fact will not and that a wipe shortly before release will actually see player numbers increase. In fact, I'd be willing to take that at 2:1, anyone interested feel free to contact me ..
  9. What trades, there is a specific number of beta keys around. Yes some of the keys form the exploiit mentioned wil stil be aloive, but many were disabled.. also THIS Lets cal it for what it is, the game is still knee deep in Alpha and it is abundently clear. NQ knows this full well and while they keep a brave "we're in beta" face when talking to us, they are acting exactly like they woudl if they were in alpha, letting things slide and experimenting, causing dmage and discomfort for players whicle they try and ge this game back on track. All that is actually fine and expectedin Alpha as you woudl wipe and erase all of that pain once your get to the point you plugged all the hoels and you are ready for what is actually beta, which I fully expect is what NQ will label as "release".
  10. THIS comment .. I have no doubt some invalid beta accounts will have gotten away with murder when NQ tried to remove them last year, as has been the case many times over the past year with exploits NQ mostly left alone. In general, there wil be massive numbers of accounts no longer active and expecting all these beta keys to convert to paying accounts at release is apipedream I expect even NQ woul dnot dare image happening. A massive portion of the world, including tiles on Sanctuary wil lbe dead constructs littered around. Not that is not the cas enow, but that will be something NQ wil lneed to address. So... It's one of the reasons why I am pretty much convinced there will be a wipe shortly before release as all Beta keys will then be deactivated anyway and backers will need to start using DAC on their main accounts. Perfect time to clear out the mess and start fresh.
  11. There was sn issue around invalid keys yes. NQ disabled those keys late last year en mass, actually impacting many who had genuine keys in the proceess as well. If you have this information and keys are still out there that you know of, not reporting it to NQ is actually a breach of TOS, if you are just talking based on "what you heard" then you woudl fall under option 2 in my previous post.
  12. In the few weeks after beta last year, concurrent logings peaked at around 3700 and started dropping quickly from there. Then NQ closes the API they forgot they had left open with no passowrd. NQ says thaht player number stabalized earlier this year.. but that means absoluitely nothing as having 100 people online at any given time is a "stabalized" player count. I personally doubt numbers hit 4 digits except for maybe around patches when people have a peek or now set their TU as HQ and leave again like I did. Man, this game looks like a badly lit Chirstmas tree now with all the bright and pulsing colored surface ricks.. it just looks awful.
  13. Backers may have at best maybe 3 beta keys per account, NQ did once reset that count so some may have 6 but that is the max.. And so, what sounds more pausible: People spending thousands of $$ on alts Some makingup crazy shit about people spending thousands of $$ on alts
  14. The scaling tech as seen in the server tech video is basically the same as what ion many environments is used to dynamically patch nodes in or out depending on their workload. This is not really special at all. What made the applicationhere different is the requirement for a game environment fo rthis process to both be _very_ fast and have _very_ low latency. What we certainly learned over the years is that there stil lis quite a bit of latency in the system NQ uses, part of it hardcoded. From the massive promises and ideas at the start, those of us who have been here since the start of pre alpha have seen the dialing back of expectations and many situations where compromises had to be made to "Maintain performance". Right now, things like AvA and even TW are pretty much still a dream with no sign of them getting their time in the sun anytime soon..
  15. This is true but a complete wipe is really not needed and just labelling the game Alpha by itself woudl not be enough. They would need to stop charging subs and allow existing players to rewtain access while returning to Alpha but not charge them. Provided the progress for the game itself is the priority, NQ currently really needs testers and people willing to get together and hammer on certain functions to find flaws and bugs more than a playerbase. If the priority is to generat erevenue, they need subs..
  16. This is not new, the voxel engine is the ONLY part of DU that is developed in house. Everything else is either 3rd party or modified from existing tech (yes, including the server scaling tech). The voxel engine is heir only real asset and NQ has always tried to promote that as a driver for "metaverse" applications, as far back as 2018 in THIS and THIS article. There were several articles like this early on and it was very clear NQ was trying to position the ENGINE as their main asset and monetize it for thing sother than the game Dual Universe. The voxel tech and in part the mofifications they made to the server tech are the only valuable assets they have. And their server tech really became outdated very quickly (relatively) where potential customers can now get better solutions and even use pay as you go/need it solutions like HPE Greenlake.
  17. Frankly, you are yanking what I said out of context to fit/argue your own narrative here. The context for my comment was relating to Sanctuary and yoru one tile ther being secure no matter what. That has not changed ever since it was first announced as such and I woudl not expect it to ever will. The concept of Sancuary is one of the few things NQ has been very cleear about and remain so. Yes, they could have added a line "as promised, your sanctuary tile wil not be affected by these changes", but the fact you are basically calling for that just means that their communication in generally really is not great at best, as the Sancuary tile being secure should be a given and not a matter of doubt or raise questions.
  18. My point here really relates to the relevant mechanics being live. To your point of how this relates to the now, where many left the game and may or may not eventually come back to find their stuff gone. Well, that is _their_ choice, whatever their motivation to do so. I do not currently play, nor do I have any plans to return to the game "full time". I will however go back in and set up using the provided new options to secure my locations. If you unsubbed, you really forfeit any claim to your stuff or claims outside of Sanctuary. If NQ has been _very_ clear about one thing, it would be that except for your one Sanctuary tile _anything_ is up for grabs and subject to change.s whioch may mean loss of "stuff". From that, if you decide to or must leave for a prolonged/indefinite period of time, leaving stuff outside of sanctuary is your choice and you should be prepared and accept you may find this stuff gone if/when you return.
  19. ? Sorry, but this is just too good to not have a good laugh about.. Now, if someone could check the game on Shadow PC..
  20. Since NQ has always been very clear that only your Sanctuary tile would be completely safe from hte moment they introduced Sanctuar, losing HQ status on a tile when you are not subscribed is fair enough. While there is always exceptions, you can always take precautions if you know you will not be active for a while. There just is no argument to be made in that regard and no, "what if I get deployed for 6 months and can't play" is not an argument here, just like you do not go on a vacation and not ask a neighbor to look after your cat.
  21. NQ does not have the option to wipe completely like they did prior to "beta". That simply can't be done once you release a game in earl access and charge people money to play. They can (and yes, I believe will) wipe with blueprints (in any case) and accrued talent points returned to pool. All the "we are discussing this, we have heated internal debate, blah blah blah" is just a smoke screen as they know they will wipe and at what point on their internal roadmap towards release. For obvious reasons they would never say that in public though.
