I would be fine with tabtargeting for larger ships as long as I can wear a captain hat, with a fake pipe and shout

"FIRE ALL WEAPONS" as I blast my  lasers in broadside combat...

well, with weapons having limited firing arcs targetting is to turn your ship the right way that your weapons work as good as possible

    @Tnecniw:

If it can reassure you, no, we're not making a Sci-Fi version of Ark, without Dinos
There will be safe zones for those who don't wan't to have PvP activities. We won't force PvP on players, we want to avoid that at all costs.
We also plan to provide basic resources (necessary to make all the vital items or basic constructs) available in (really) huge amounts, so no one can have a monopole.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Well... It will be always our word against his.
But here is our side of the story.

    Just the facts:
    - We posted two comments on his second video asking why he was deliberately spreading disinformation and diffamation about our game.
    - In both comments was a link to our video proving the big spaceships were voxel-made.
    - They weren't validated to become public, despite the fact that comments posted after by other posters were.
We don't exactly know how BlueDrake42's channel is configured, but if comments require validation to become public, that means he sees every comment before chosing to validate one (or not). It seems to us really unlikely that, in this situation, he hasn't seen the comments who were pretty straightforward and posted with the name "Dual Universe". Maybe there is another explanation but from our side, we don't see any.

In the end, with his video "GG Dual Universe", BlueDrake42 showed he didn't mean to misinform (despite the fact that the result was exactly that). We personally recognize we were wrong in thinking he had ill intentions toward our game. Sketpicism in his first video was totally ok and we perfectly understood that (as not much about our game has been presented yet). Presenting personal assumptions as the truth (saying our ships were just meshes bought from turbosquid put in our game and not voxel-made spaceships) in the second video was where a line was crossed.

There will be soon a blog post explaining our unexpected presence at E3 (that wasn't even expected on our side a month ago) and how it came to make some choices that seem weird from the outside. We also totally agree that there have been several mistakes in our communication like the fact we should have pointed out that the big spaceships design weren't home made but available on Turbosquid. There was no intention to hide it. We truly didn't see it as a problem a few weeks ago, as the teaser was meant to present what players would be able to build, not to present what the players will find in game.

So there is no hypocrisy here.

To avoid feeding the troll any further, this topic will be locked now.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

No I understand the complexity of it all, I am saying that with 500 more years of science, you could have different ways of dealing with that that do not involve growing food, and cooking.  the Star Trek way, of food replicators, or the Matrix way of having it all feed through IVs, since the nano tech is attached to our arm, it could feed us directly.

As far as the ISS Wandering Mountain goes, for all we know, when traveling at FTL to a destination, we will be in cryosleep again.  Think about it we were already in it for 10,000 years, to find the FIRST habitual planet. They have said it will take a lot of energy and time to get to another unexplored system, that has Cryosleep all over it.

Also you missed the point of the reference to the Lore.  He cant move yet, and could barely open his eyes, but the AI tells him. “With accelerated rehydration, you will recover your ideal weight in one week.  Does that sound like he was getting nutrients through IV or eating steaks and potatoes?  Looks more like the Matrix way of feeding to me.

I honestly think if they are going to force players to eat and drink, then they should make us deal with waste and hygiene too.  So with that I vote, eating should be an optional function in the game, with possible buffs, but not a requirement.

Honestly, I would do anything possible to have BASICLY courtney gears (from Ratchet and clank) as my AI Yeah, sounds a bit silly but that would be really funny

I think it depends on the ship. A small fighter type ship, which is very mobile and such will probably use the mouse a bit like a FPS... you go where the mouse is aiming while you use the keyboard for diffrent things, like thrusters, shields, boosters, "breaks" (meaning that you basicly attempt to go backwards) ect...

but on bigger capital ships, I imagine you would use your mouse too, but more like a tactical way, you click where you want to go and the ship travels there, since honestly, trying to DIRECTLY controll a massive ship like that, can be rather annoying.

I honestly almost imagine that the commander not really has that much controll over where the ship goes, but he is the one giving orders and such, and the other players have to make sure it goes there, if we think capitalships.

I'm glad to see someone mention food sources other then agriculture. Granted protein can be generated from plant based products but what about the animals? Heards of cattle flocks of chicken and schools of fish, just to mention a few would be interesting to see added to the mechanics. Should we have to stop every five minutes when our hunger bar goes to low or would a three squares a day be more realistic. Don't get me wrong i love a good slice of toast with butter or peanut butter for that matter but i'm a meat eater i want some steak and eggs people!

Thinking that one way this could be implemented as a hull reinforcement.
Say you build just the frame work for a ship. Then plant seeds or place organic material in various places and it grows around the frame work. Kinda reminds me of the "Wraith" ships in Stargate: Atlantis. Ship regrows as damaged and generates new matter as needed so long as the power supply is able to sustain it.
    Benefits:
    -Ship hull regeneration
-Ease of ship manufacture (Just frame it then let it grow)
    -Very hard to destroy

    Disadvantages:
-Can only grow as big as say 70% of max power output
-Requires more power to just run basic systems vs just sustaining hull integrity
-More susceptible to bio engineered attacks for lower tech level organic development (Max level not 100% perfect but could be adaptable if attack is survived)

That's why I'm personally hoping it isn't a requirement. If it is, well I guess I would have to deal with it. I would probably just stock up on the cheapest food for long journeys.

Come to think of it, what would be the cheapest food to grow in space?
Here on earth it's often wheat, but I've heard wheat has difficulties when it comes to hydroponics. Maybe rice?

I'd suggest potato's but I don't want Matt Damon to sue DU...

How open will the shipbuilding be? I saw in the trailer when it placed the cockpit in the front and such... but how far with the design can we go? Will we be able to design our own cockpits (that would be fucking amazing) maybe add AI (like that says "Good evening captain, currently our fueltanks are on 80%. The weather is fine and the skies are the limit") or such? Will we be able to design our own engines? or discover schematis for special types of engines or Cockpits? :3

Bingo. I wouldn't mind organic materials to work with that might have certain properties and look (healing, requiring food, a "digestive system" element to connect too, etc), but I don't think this is a game about the dev's creating cool ships for us, biological or otherwise. They give us the tools to create our own.

Come to think of it I am surprised Star Citizen - which is almost completely financed by selling ships to players - hasn't yet tried cashing in on a Moya.
