    Most if not all of you guys have probably heard this hour long interview already but I do want to say thanks to JC for taking the time to answer questions clearly, honestly, and as in depth as he could .... GrayStillPlays for conducting a good interview and asking the questions the community wanted .... and the community for giving their opinion or expressing what they wanted to know.
     
    It fed my Dual Universe appetite for at least a few days I hope ... lol
     
    Much of it have been written about in dev blogs and the ask us anything thread but it is always good to hear the top man in his own words describing the vision of the game.
     
    So I just wanted to say kudos and thanks as well as let people know who may not have heard the interview and are interested.

    Greetings, fellow explorers, builders and settlers !  
       
     
    Dual Universe Sleepers is a fansite presenting daily infos on your favorite game, along with (soon to come) fan productions such as an illustrated timeline and themed wallpapers.  
     
       
     
    When the game goes live, D.U.S. will also form an informal network of observers within the galaxy, bent on collecting and recording knowledge and history. You can even join it right away without leaving any organization you already belong to.  
     
       
     
    This is all in the "humble beginnings" stage, but will flesh out over time; any advice and participation is welcome !  
     
       
     
    You'll find a weekly roundup on this thread every sunday, feel free to comment and suggest, as all of this is just taking shape.

    I was thinking that in an mmo this big were we have Space and planets and well a BIG map wouldnt it be possible for example a group like the Aether(not part of them) to live in Isolation from the rest of the community in a planet in the outer reaches of this game?

    If it can be comparable to Minecraft, where "Civcraft" had a large map and encouraged player organizations or civilizations, then yes. Then again while the map was large there, it was used over many years and a lot was constructed or changed in the landscape. Many things were explored over time. If we consider a single shard and a lot more, then the galaxy or universe would have to be vastly bigger in comparison to spread out the potentially large playerbase.
     
    In short, if it will be big enough yes. Then again if there's ever some end or rim, expect others to go for those too. You will eventually encounter others.

    Tbh i think most planets will be like this, neutral for a very long time as when you think about it, if its gonna take weeks possibly just to get off planet then you can bet for an org to control a whole planet would be a very long time so most planets if not all at first imo will be neutral because no one will have the resources manpower or technology to claim antire planets and I hear people throwing planet sizes around saying some could be like 100KM in diameter well then that is no easy task to control so in essense I get what your saying and where your coming from but personally I feel like it will be a very long time before orgs starting controlling planets so neutrality shouldnt be a worry or a concern for quite some time, however no doubt people will aim to try straight off the back of launch and I wish them all the luck

    "The Aether has interests in establishing Cities of Refuge (Planets as the case may be). If we attain the required player base, we'll set out as soon as we can. In the Cities of Refuge, the land is owned and under the Administration of the Aether, but the people living in it can be just anyone. Any attack on that land or anyone there, will be considered an act of aggression. I have great plans for this game... Interested?"

    No worries man, I do not mind being corrected what so ever. I just don't like to be told I'm making assumptions when I am just going off of what I have seen. Most of the planets we have seen are defiantly more than 50% water.
     
      
     
    I meant this as a joke (you should never assume it just makes and ass of you and me) just forgot to put  at the end. It is an old saying I've heard for years.

    After all, we know how the Battle of Gettysburg went down, right?
     
    When it comes to close quarters, no gun is as efficient as a good melee weapon, or a shotgun. Especially when power armor could be a thing. Get a vibrational blade in the game and you'll see how fast a close quarters scenario can devolve into a melee bloodbath.

    Knives. Ballistic Knives. Hidden Knives. Shoe Knives. Butterfly Knives. Throwing Knives. And yes, if you can be efficient with a knife, you better be able to throw it as well, perhaps even as a high level of specialisation.


    Swords. Retractable Swords. Vibrational Blades. No lightsabers, that would be ridiculous, no matter how much I love Star Wars. Make the system have a "block" function on the right click that the next attack will be parried, tie the Sprint key to the Left Mouse attack for more damage as of your speed and boom, you got yourself a fancy melee system. It's still tab-targeting, but it's involving as well.

    Would you prefer us to explain reason to a guy who hasn't read any DevBlog and wants DUAL to become a Space Engineers clone with all its crashing glory instead? He hasn't even seen the ideas the devs have on customising a cockpit on the inside to make it more personal. He probably thinks the game is FPS combat as well. Care to explain that part to him?
     
    Or would you like to explain why EVE and WoW got a P2P model with WoW even mimicking the PLEX system for their game from EVE?
     
    Could you at least expain to him why Private Servers won't even exist for the game, since the tech they got for it is patented and owned by the NQ's CEO and Lead Dev of the game, JC Baillie?
     
     
    The original post I made, was a reference to all those things he didn't bother to read or research for that matter.

    The problem is, unlike an image, a 3D mesh takes a lot of memory. Memory which will be have to be stored in the servers, so to deter backdoors for malware into the server. Having an image editor in-game, could happen, giving each player up to, let's say, 500 MB of storage to create their own flags or whatever. A cockpit on its own would a tenth of that and a lot of loading on other players to load said texture. Which is why the prefab cockpits on the devs part are a good thing. You would already have the cockpit on your client, you won't have to download it in real time..
     
     
    And setting up a WoW server with functional A.I. is difficult. Can you imagine some guy trying to set up a DUAL server on a traditional server blade? The thing would crack into splinters. The devs had to pretty much invent a new tech to host the game.

    We had an awesome ops night last night.  Loaded up the Kodiak shuttle and hit our planet's moons hard.  Took out three enemy installations and had much fun!

    While the game is in 1st Person view, the need for a character creation is indeed something that makes a person recreate themselves in a game.


    Said Character Creator should have, in my opinion, preset bodytypes, three heigh levels, with possibly each body preset offering something and taking something else away. Bigger body types and muscular? More carrying capacity and/or longer short energy burst activites, like sprinting. Smaller ones? A bonus on reduction on the lock-on of enemies on you and possbily, but at the cost of less of a carrying capacity, with the middle body type being the perfect balance of both.


    As for the face, we can go for, pretty much anything. If the game can support 10000 players in one place, the small facial features won't even play a role in the long run, with clever LOD magic being utilised at a distance, to reduce any potential popping texture issues. If the other guy is 10 kliks away, you won't be making out facial features anyway.


    As for scars, that's something that should be a remnant of a battle, not something preset. Given the Resurrection Node DevBlog, our characters are wisped away moments before actual death by the quantum magic involved in the Nodes. Some of the battle's scars should be a remant, like, the "killing" blow, being a particular scar, depending on the weapon that caused said scars. Burnmarks from lasers, rugged patch of skin from a bullet, or cuts from a melee weapon (fingers still crossed).

    Tattoos should be something done in-game in my opinion, not in the character creator. Like, a badge of honor being tattooed onto someone to display their actions as an impromptu medal, possibly, being designed by a player in the organisation, in-game.


    These are my opinions and I don't expect everyone to accept them. I'm just advocating on freedom of customisation as a player proceeds the game regarding facial features, or ink on their body. For all we know, there could be a "Plastic Surgeon" specialisation in the game for medics, complete with a name change. *paranoia intensifies*.
