How is any of that NQ's fault? We literally do have "a protection system against legates just taking everything," it's called RDMS and not giving perms to dishonest people.

No offense, but how much old sci-fi just completely ignored science as it was known then? And the line between sci-fi and fantasy has always been very blurred, even 'hard' sci-fi often ignored a lot of science in favor of story. And that's not a big issue imho. It all depends on suspension of disbelief and the consumers willingness to do that. But some things require a lot more suspension then others, the NQnian physics require a rewiring of reality... 😉

I honestly don't care much about the NQnian physics, as long as they stay internally consistent, but as NQ is running an eternal Alpha game, they keep changing stuff around, often quite drastically. And even then, due to it's buggy state, it's internal logic is not applied consistently... Is this a floor? Nope, not today? Must be something to do with the alignments of the moons and the butterflies being in heat....

I've said this before, but the biggest sink in any MMO is player churn.

What percent of WoW items and gold are just sitting on inactive accounts collecting dust? Likely the vast majority of all the money and items ever "printed" into the game.

Honestly, I'm not sure I much care about the "economy" of any MMO, overall...I'm just not the sort of player that cares to "play the markets" as a facet of gameplay.

What matters to me is that earning money is fun and that it is motivating because there's stuff I want to buy.

In games, that is the primary driver of a good economy in my opinion -- actual interest in wanting to earn and spend money because it drives engagement with the game, overall.

Earning money just to pay taxes is an objectively stupid design idea that undermines the whole point of having a currency system in games to begin with! it isn't to create a fake economy just for the sake of having an economy.

This isn't complicated stuff; it's like they put quanta into the game without understanding why currency exists in video games. Game economies are not at all like real world economies.

NQ needs to step back and think about how to make their game fun; the state of the economy really doesn't matter if there's nothing fun to do with it.

Often "unnamed other" is expanded in their post to "everyone"...

Yet strangely I never see much in the way of actual twisting/trouncing/schooling/teaching/destroying/burning/flaying/scalding..  When I look back at the history, it's usually just one or two people disagreeing with the OP.
    Funny stuff...

Anyway, I posted several times about deflation death spirals for this game, here's a recent post I remember posting less than two months ago... and the posts created some lively debate.

Aye, true enough. But it "used to be something" even if only a little thing (more significant if it'd been available at the very beginning to all those to whom it orter've been available), and now it's even less. Yay. Almost a microcosm of DU in that one "development".

I can only echo your "Le sigh" comment from a little while back.

For me the worst is terraforming. I am a masochist and will often dig out entire core volumes for our base, like a 12-M-core-long tunnel dug through a Thades mountain. But these last few weeks I'm getting Internal Server Error every time. Sometimes repeatedly, sometimes not. It's really throwing me off the rhythm and reducing the efficiency.

I don't care if the information was leaked or not.

Because the real problem here is being able to completely control a number of limited finite resources in a MMO, and then being able to hold them indefinitely. That is just bad design.

And being able to it in 24h or less is ridiculously bad design..

So thank <entity> we had this long beta before release, where NQ worked actively with the community to get all the kinks out.

The (closed NDA) forum had good vibes for about a year or two. But by then is was already starting to be clear how NQ operated, and things started to change quickly..

Keep in mind that some with 10-20 accounts certainly didn't pay $300+/month... Some paid $70/year/account and prepaid for years. Sure, $1400/year for 20 accounts is a lot of money for some, for other's it less so. But keep in mind that this happened in a period where people couldn't spend money on vacations, going out, new computers, etc. Thus some might have that money to spend...

Keep in mind that a study in 2017 had as a result that the average US student spend $900/year on booze... What if you're a student that doesn't drink (alcohol) at all? Add inflation and that $1400/year for 20 accounts isn't so much as you thought. IF you want to do that now, it is more like ~$2800/year for 20 accounts, but still quite a bit removed from the $300+/month...

That said... 20 accounts... Much of DU is gated by player activity. I wouldn't want to manage 20 characters! I have four and while I might theoretically would like a few more due to talents, actually using them all would be an absolute pain! I wouldn't even want to think about using them all to automine... That would be another full time job! No thank you!

I could quote by name because the forum remembers everything))). As many have said, the market will adjust itself and prices are about to find their limit. (this was still at prices of 18-20 quants per liter). I think the reality surprised even these people.
But it would look like gloating. I have no malice.
There is regret that we were right. I've been following your threads closely. And I largely agree.
Although, on the other hand, if you see that a person sticks an iron bare plug into a socket, then it is predictable that he will be shocked.

and everything is DU for him and his self and everybody around

GraXXoR got a reaction from Wyndle in Why I'm Leaving DU...
TBH, I remember the forums before DU alpha was released, the community came together to build massive orgs and orgs within orgs and there was a whole lot of scheming, spitballing and theorycrafting.

There was even a Youtuber "News" channel that reported on the current "events" of the time.
There were Gantt charts and 3D org connectivity webs showing alliances and crossovers between orgs and of course there were endless org "press releases" stating how many players, who had become legate, who had been kicked out etc.

it was all very dynamic with orgs rising and falling in the space of weeks and massive [filtered] waving contests to see who could inflate their org numbers with the most cannon fodder, I mean, members.

The massive compensatory egos on display were either tragic or hilarious depending upon one's standpoint.

But it honestly made me feel a bit sick inside when I actually read the banter, bluster and outright bombast, usually of grown men, many of whom were ex-military playing a game to ostensibly rebuild humanity and before it was even started were planning to burn it all to the ground and basically kill each other with mass warfare or political backstabbing.

I'm sure there is subset of the community to whom that kind of self-congratulatory member-stroking is enjoyable but it was basically all the toxicity of Eve without any checks and balances.

IMO, it's probably better this game never even got to the point where it could support such gameplay and in all likelyhood never will..

Just thinking about that gives the the ewws...

This is the guy who thinks PVP solves everything.

Yeah, nah. first thing is to make sure people cant sit on inactive tiles with T2+ ore on them...

For example, if a tile goes inactive, it should allow someone else to come along and activate the tile by paying rent and take over the TU.
It's ridiculous that orgs can sit on tiles paying 1/3 the asking price just to keep their competitors off of those tiles.

My daughter could have spotted that sort of loophole when she was 10.
But it seems NQ devs are like... This is fine... I'm OK with this...

I have a suggestion that isn't the total solution because of alt but it's a good start.

    Recommended changes.
    1. When a tile goes inactive make the person pay back taxes to reactive. This would stop people from paying every three weeks to keep claim.

    2. Taxes should increase with the amount of tiles owned. Example 7 tiles free and after each additional tile claimed taxes raise 10% on all tiles, including your first 7.

Maybe this isn't the end all solution but something has to be done around hoarding. I see many tiles on jago all owned by the same person or org that are inactive and sitting on T3 and T4 ore.

GraXXoR got a reaction from Kezzle in New planet being added: Talemai (with patch 1.2)
    Beta?
Even beta is a stretch, since the closest thing to a consensus on the definition of a beta is the product's main functions and roadmap is laid down and the product is essentially feature complete but unpolished and with placeholders (scaffolding) in place where functions are incomplete.

This game is nowhere even near placeholder complete. LOL.
I used to call alphas masquerading as betas "balpha products" which even that I find to be generous.

My personal opinion is this game is still a pre-release, early access, alpha grade entity with less polish than a secondary school's first wind orchestra practice.
