  1. ... The very nature of this game means that data cost per player monotonically increases as time and average asset accrual increases. Unless they are literally rolling in paid up noobs who quit in their first year, there is no way they can avoid an eventual wipe and reset. There will inevitably come a point when the amount of constructs a player has created causes the load in terms of storage and transfer to outstrip the monthly fee... Centrally sourced single shards are, by their geometric nature of player-player interaction doomed to fall into decline if they support this level of data persistence.
  2. IKR... houndreds and houndreds of dev hours on reWAMPing... Time to release the dogs of war on the development server stack, for sure! But seriously, though, these skins were KS / Early backer rewards and were likely created to fend of any legal challenges rather than improve game experience. Also, losing the Alpha facial glory hole was a personal desire of mine.
  3. adjuster is destroyed... in both situations. It's basically like saying, "why does dying in a car accident have the same consequences as dying by poorly secured firearm wielded by a six year old..."
  4. What survival loops could possibly merit the creation of a large base, though, that couldn’t be facilitated on an S core or smaller?
  5. If food is used in the way Star Citizen to Cyberpunk uses it, I’m fine. It adds minor buffs and provides minor debuffs over some hours in SC. "actually, it’s super easy... hardly an inconvenience." However, if it’s used as a survival technique then there are far more important things they should introduce first: Power, water and oxygen. food is waaaay down on the list. and if you believe repetitive, required activity would add anything to the game, I have one comment: ore-mining. But, if on the other hand farming to make said food requires tracts of farmland per player and that land has to be conditioned over time to become more fertile if barren, and the. that land could be razed and the equipment destroyed by other players and so has to be defended somehow, THEN we might be in to something. but quite frankly, that level of mechanics development alone would equal almost the entirety of the complexity of the current mechanics NQ have put in place over the last SIX YEARS for the entire rest of the game. Food: don’t hold your breath…. Oh wait, breathing is only decorative in DU, so you’re good.
  6. Just because they announce something doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. So many things have been announced that haven’t happened yet.
  7. Wow an update by NQ-Deckard. …on the forums not on Twitter or Discord. let’s see how many of the points on the list are minimum viable alpha product placeholders and how much actually gets fleshed out to a post-alpha level. there are a lot of nice things in the list. Top being PVE combat. And finally a construct disassembly option. And for me, at least, HOTAS support, since I’ve been wanting to put this to good use since neither DU nor NMS support it and I no longer play Elite Dangerous. While it is nice to actually hear a member of NQ say something, anything, it is going to take more than a single happy new year post to convince this player that the game is turning around.
  8. Farming, both arable and pastoral, were suggested more than half a decade ago. not gonna happen at this point.
  9. It’s a long standing tradition around here that suggestions are scrupulously ignored by NQ.
  10. Even 1000 paying subs, (which seems highly improbable). Would be only $15k a month at the very maximum in terms of income. that’s enough for, like, one decent dev and a Junior tea-bringer/page-turner… and that’s assuming someone is donating the electricity, rent and server fees.
  11. Who even cares? The last dozen people still building things?
  12. at this point, there's really not even any meaning talking about the game in a way that developers might pay heed. The whole thing is going to burn so might as well talk about exit strategies...
  13. TBH, looking back on it I can't even be certain why I felt the way I felt, but I just assumed that a wipe WOULD, (not might) be incoming and stopped playing accordingly. Hell, even now, I feel that the game WILL fail and be shut down (not might) and so I am equally demotivated to play as I was this time last year. There is absolutely no way in Hell (or any other made up plane of existence) that this game can survive without a bottomless pocketed sponsor. The game is toast... Or more accurately, it's like one of those icebergs that has drifted too far south... penguins on the surface are still able to huddle together and go about doing their daily penguiny things, but the ice is shrinking and eventually, it will all come to nought and they will all be plunged into the middle of the ocean and drown. And that's my "charitable" outlook of NQ's approach to community development.
  14. Right!!…. And then if they also require raw materials indicative of said “various lubricants and other wearable parts”… And those materials themselves need to be made in the nanopack… or in other machines if you need greater quantities and those lubricants etc. need schematics. I think you might be in to something 🤔
  15. Sorry for being facetious ... That's an unappealing character trait that I display all to often of late!!!
  16. Weird. I just reread the OP and he/she is indeed asking for PMs only and either will or will not disregard anything we write in the thread. “Feel free to discuss…”. Thanks for giving us permission to use the forums. 😉 considering only about a dozen of us post here with any regukarity, I doubt the responses will be numerous enough to make the “survey” anything other than a collection of a few random anecdotes from embittered players/former players… and Msoul. but, good luck, I guess. I would say, “Feel free to ignore my opinions I posted above” but giving you permission would likely be redundant.
  17. They fixed ore drops and digging. man!!! now I lose 1/3 of all my ore calibrations and every time I try and dig I get internal server errors every few seconds. Great fixes NQ. He doesn’t read this, anyway.
  18. The customizability and freedom of building and LUA. Vs. the lack of anything else to do.
  19. Agreed 100%. another “1st alpha” backer here where most of our time initially consisted of waiting for the servers to open up. I remember at one of the first Alpha resets where inventory was introduced, spawning on the arcship, literally hundreds and hundreds of nondescript (no colors yet) players constantly pouring out and flowing across the bridges like somewhat low frame rate water. there was a sense of eagerness and we honestly felt like pioneers on a search for a grand vista to place down our first cores. I remember bumping into a then promenent backer called Yamamushi and we chatted about how groundbreaking the game was and how it was basically a cross between Eve and Minecraft and how huge it was going to be… and with the sun shining down from bright blue sky and the snowy mountain peaks glistening in the distance, and seemingly endless players flowing past us over the bridge and away from the Arcship in every direction, we could believe it, too. Cut to the final release, and the fifth reset for me and the feeling of pioneer is just a distant long forgotten memory, like a dream of a dream… every release has been a diluted, lesser version of the one before to the point where this time, the “release” came and I couldn’t even be bothered to place my STU. For many, STUs themselves arrived far too late to make them relevant either ingame itself or as a valid player number counter. the old guard are generally tired, disaffected or outright bored. NovaX was on MP2 on Alioth for the first Alpha release, then for the Balpha (alpha masquerading as a beta) we were part of the MP3 development on Madis, along with MTI which was, AFAIK, the biggest Madis development that spread 15km end to end and consisted of perhaps 500 L cores by the time the suspicion of an incoming wipe knocked the wind from our collective sails. Madis was never a busy place, even MP3 but you’d always see a yellow marker or two at any time of day or night. People visiting via surrogate pods or dropping in at the market to buy something. numerically, there were I think six first wave backers in NovaX. Of those two of us remain, but by the Beta we had grown to pushing 60 players (not alts) of which 20 or 30 might have been on at any one time. now there are four of us and I am usually on by myself, much like the last half of the Beta. damn, I’m getting the feels now…
  20. Thanks for the idea, great minds think alike! I’ve actually had to run my alt on my main PC since the so-called “release”. And it works fine. Likewise my main account crashes the secondary PC. also, wrt the memory, no, I moved from an Intel 4770k with DDR3 to 3900x with DDR4. It seems so arbitrary. It just seems to CTD completely randomly. No wonder there are some people who are limited to one computer who just can’t play the game at all. At least my main PC has zero problem with the game, in fact I go so far as to call it stable. (Despite now losing upwards of a quarter of my calibration ore since they “fixed” losing calibration ore yesterday)
  21. I’m trying to diagnose my DU crashing in my PC. My PC was a Windows 10 4770K+GTX1080Ti which crashed with DU every couple of minutes. I had previously determined that an early alpha of DU had overstressed my CPU to the point where it no longer overclocked even slightly, effectively turning my chip into a 4770 non-K. It continued to work after returning to vanilla speeds but recently, as of “launch” (yeah sure, LOL) the game crashes randomly between 30 seconds and 15 minutes of starting. I reinstalled Windows 10… no joy… even tried Windows 11 - a real pain with this CPU and M/B. so I figured the CPU had finally given in. I rebuilt the PC with some spare parts, a mid range AMD B550 m/b, my old 3900X CPU and 32GB of low speed DDR4 and reinstalled windows 11. But bugger me if the thing still crashes exactly the same as before when trying to play DU. now it’s down to two things: the GPU or PSU. however, I have run AIDA64 PRIME95 CINEBENCH on the CPU for 30 minutes straight. And I’ve run Furmark stress test, Heaven 4 benchmark, Elite Dangerous and heck, the hardest hardness of them all: CyberPunk 2077 all without crashing. I just can’t see what could be wrong. Finally, replacing the 1080Ti with my main GPU fixes the crash so I’d put money on the 1080Ti and DU compatibility being the issue. and of course my main PC runs DU fine with the main card… but once you get used to multi boxing, it’s hard to go back to cyclops mode so I’m really keen on getting my second box up and running again, but not willing to invest in a new GPU (Gouge Priced Unit in the current economic situation) just for a single game in my library that may keel over and die at any moment. PS, DU works forever without crashing if I use OpenGL but the quality and frame rate are so SHOCKINGKY bad it feels like running on IGP. Lol. So, what API does DU use? I presume it’s not Vulkan/DX12…. Lol. Is it even DX11? (all of which I have tested) The graphics “feel” about DX9 quality to me. Any ideas how to proceed other than buying and trying a new graphics card?
  22. 10,000 subs? Feels mighty unlikely. Maybe 10,000 players had some DACs lying around or free time from the Kickstarter or even gifts from friends. but I very much doubt it. now 1000 subs I could believe given how many players seem to have alts. 1000 subs at $15 is $15,000 per month, or about 1.5 semi-decently paid devs, working from home. still, judging by the patch notes, this seems about right.
