    Our building contest has started!

All Noveans are invited to The Exchange, in front of the Red Hall. Dispensers are set with elements and honeycomb for the duration of the contest. It ends on Thursday 22nd of September at 14:00 UTC.
    Dispensers exact location: ::pos{0,2,24.3793,99.3716,124.9536}

Be sure to submit your constructions before that deadline, through this google form.

As a reminder, if your build meets our specifications, it could be included in a future iteration of our available starting outposts and speeders for new players.*

    * Please keep in mind that if your constructs are selected for the contest, they will not be protected by Digital Rights Management. You however won’t need to turn DRM off when creating your construct for the contest.

Do you know the ingameprice of one DAC?
    No?
I dont know either, because the price depends on how much Quanta other players want to pay for playtime.
If players dont want to trade DACs, the price will be very high. If the players trade DACs a lot, the price will be very low.
So it depends on the players, and the players only how the DACs are used, traded and priced.
Its just a chance for players who have not much RL money but a lot of time to work ingame to play the game.
Is it pay to win, when you need to work ingame for it?
I say definately No! You cannot "Win" in a creative sandbox when there is nohing to "Win"
    It is Play to pay!
People who say, DACs are pay to win, have no clue how DACs work...

    Hey o/

depending on when you played the Alpha (until mid 2020) or the Beta, the game has drastically improved allready...
Beta start was a hell of a ride, with so many bugs that noone were able to call it a game and not even beta.
But after 2 years, it seems the cloud algorythm of DU is able to run more than 200 players in an area flying around or building stuff with ease.

Its not easy to say, how well the game will perform after the launch and reset on 9/27
but even with hundrets of thousands of playermade constructs ingame it depends on where you go...
Many constructs in one place means, many many Gb to load in realtime into your RAM. depending on your system and internetspeed that might drop your FPS for a while.
But its much much better allready than it was 2 years ago, to be honest

Depending on what hardware you have.. If you meet the recommended requirements for DU, the only bottleneck is your internet speed and the distance to the next Server within the servercloud of DU.
You can check the actual requirements on the DU Steam page Dual Universe bei Steam (steampowered.com)

You backed for the game allready... that means you are still able to play until the servers go down on 9/22
Then you have 2 weeks for free to get back into DU after release on 9/27.
And after all that free trime you will need to use your DACs or subs or whatever.

Welcome back and login right now and check DU for yourself. o/

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Wanderer in RESET: HOW TO PREPARE
    Hello, Noveans!

With the launch of Dual Universe a month away, we want to talk about how to prepare for the upcoming server reset.

We’ve outlined the parts of your gameplay that you’ll keep post-reset in our announcement video and in the letter from our Creative Director. Today, we want to expand on that and discuss how best to prepare for the reset and how to get the most out of it.

    PREPARE YOUR CORE BLUEPRINTS

Make a Core Blueprint of every construct you want to keep and make sure that you store it in your nanopack or in a container on a construct that you own, though we advise that you keep them in your nanopack as it’s the safest place to store them.

If you have Core Blueprints in the care of others or in other locations around Helios, don’t forget to gather them, should you want to keep them. Being the original owner of a Core Blueprint has no impact on Core Blueprints outside of your possession. You will keep only those Core Blueprints in your nanopack and owned containers.

The same applies to organization-owned Core Blueprints. If you’re a superlegate of an organization, make sure that you store your Core Blueprints in your nanopack or that they’re stored in a container on a construct owned by your organization, though again, we advise that you keep them in your nanopack.

    PREPARE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS

Make sure that each organization you want to keep has a player as its superlegate. Any organization without a player as its superlegate will be lost at the reset.

Make a list of members you would like to reinvite after the reset. Though any organization with a player as its superlegate will remain after the reset with its Core Blueprints, Name, Logo, and Manifesto intact, membership will be reset.

You can use the in-game contacts system (which will remain after the reset) to keep track of your members or simply make a list outside of the game.

DON’T WASTE TIME PREPARING YOUR MINING UNITS

We will reset the ore distribution on each body in Helios. To find good spots for your mining units, you’ll need to re-build your Territory Scanners and hunt the tiles down. None of your pre-reset knowledge of hotspots will be valid post-reset.

PIONEER PACKS AND THE TALENT ACCELERATOR

The Pioneer Packs' items will be delivered in the first month after launch. If you’d like your collectibles, you’ll need an active subscription, and you’ll need to log into the game during its first month after release to receive them.

The talent point and quanta awards will be given on the final day of each month for the first six months of release. Again, you’ll need an active subscription to receive them.

Finally, if you've subscribed to the game, ensure that you have at least six months of talent training queued up. The talent point accelerator event, which is open to all players, will boost your talent point acquisition in the first six months of launch by:
100% for the first month 50% for months two, three, and four 25% for months five and six
The launch of Dual Universe will likely be the last time in the game's life where the economy will be an even playing field. Though beta players and backers will gain some advantage by the end of the six-month launch period, the start of the launch will see every player on the same starting line. There’s never been a better time to join!

We’re excited to see you in Helios on the 27th of September. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to share your feedback on reset preparation here.

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Wanderer in MERCURY (0.30) UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE
    Hello, Noveans!

We’re close to the second anniversary of Dual Universe’s beta, and our latest update, Mercury, brings many exciting features to celebrate this milestone! With the new Lua API, the Exchange, Global Illumination, and more, we’re excited to head into summer with Dual Universe.

We’ve walked a long road together, and with your support, we’re just getting started. You can watch a recap of the past two years of beta here:

    WHAT’S NEW WITH MERCURY?

We’ve talked about our ongoing polish and stabilization which has remained a central focus in the Mercury update. Still, we are also introducing many new features and upgrades into the game; that includes:

    - THE EXCHANGE is a central commercial hub and exhibition center on Alioth. If you think of the Helios system as a giant shopping center, the Exchange acts as its information board, that connects players. It’s an in-game destination at the heart of a teleportation loop in the Pioneer Zone. It provides shops, adverts, and a community board to help any player advertise their offering to the community, whether that’s a ship shop, museum, Lua arcade, or anything else. You can watch NQ-Nicodemus present the feature in this video:

    - SUMMER DACs are an exciting addition that allow every active player to gift a month of subscription to new Dual Universe players. This is our way of offering a free trial of Dual Universe to your friends. Additionally, it will help us to test the DAC system before we fully implement it later.

One Summer DAC will be given to every active Dual Universe account (including alpha and beta key accounts.) They can only be gifted or used to charge the first month of subscription on an account.

Once you subscribe to the game, whether by redeeming a Summer DAC, a beta key, or paying for a subscription, you may no longer use Summer DACs to add game-time to your account, as it is only meant to be a way to try the game.

Summer DACs are accessible through our website under My Account, where you can redeem or gift your Summer DAC, and see your DAC transaction history.

Once you've received your DAC, it is easy to convert it into subscription time through this page.

To confirm again, Summer DACs are separate from the DAC system and will not impact your DAC balance gained through our crowdfunding campaigns. They will expire towards the end of the summer if unused.

    - THE LUA API revamp has the potential to improve almost every aspect of gameplay in Dual Universe. Whether you fly with a script, manage your factory with screens, or enjoy art and arcade machines in-game, your gameplay will be enhanced by our new Lua API. It will upgrade and improve the tools available to our community of creators who make the scripts enjoyed by every Novean. If you script with Lua in Dual Universe, or if you want to, you can find our mock API on Github as well as a full changelog on our forum here.

    - ART IMPROVEMENTS are also here in Mercury. We’ve added Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI) as an opt-in graphical option in Dual Universe, and improved our Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO.) This, along with other improvements to our art assets such as new vegetation and improved in-game sounds, will help enhance your immersion in the game.

    - THE NOVEAN OVERVIEW is a new interface in which players may see their unlocked item skins. We will expand upon this system in future updates, with improvements on displaying character information such as construct slots, territories, calibration points, and so on.

    - Every character will have their talent points refunded back to their pool with Mercury. As this reset also empties the skill training queues, make sure to fill them up again as soon as possible, to not lose out on talent point acquisition. While we must perform this reset for technical reasons related to upgrading our systems, this is also an opportunity for players to refocus talents into different areas and try new ‘builds’, or to simply correct training away from unwanted talents.

    - Also, as we’ve previously announced, polish and stabilization continue to be a primary focus for us, and Mercury will bring many bug fixes and improvements that will enhance the experience of playing the game.

Moving forward from Mercury, we will be continuing to work on stabilization and polishing, but we’re also working on improving the blueprint system, the market UI, introducing digital Kickstarter rewards, and much more!

You can share your thoughts on this update with us in this forum thread.

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Forum Rules
We want this forum to be a place where everyone feels empowered to have an open and friendly discussion with us (the Novaquark team) as well as other community members.  To help make this possible we have created rules we feel will keep things positive and ensure that proper netiquette is observed.

By posting on this forum, either publicly or through private message or other means, you explicitly agree to follow the rules and guidelines posted here. If you do not agree with these rules – in whole or in any part – then do not post. All members will be treated as if they have read and understood these rules and guidelines.

    (I) Be respectful and courteous.
The Dual Universe forums and community site are provided for Dual Universe players and those interested in discussing topics directly related to Dual Universe. We understand that community members may disagree with each other, and even with us, but we expect opinions to be expressed in a reasonable and polite manner.  It is important to maintain an atmosphere of civility and respect, so that all voices may be heard.

    (II) Communicate constructively.
All communication, whether between players, moderators or Dual Universe staff, must be constructive. Posts without constructive commentary can distract from the topic at hand, reduce the visibility of valuable communication, and discourage others from participating in the conversation.

    (III) Following actions are prohibited:
Posting off-topic replies or replies that are likely to drag the discussion off topic. Necroposting on old threads (unpinned threads in which the last reply is older than 2 months). Spamming on a specific topic. This includes creating multiple discussions on the same topic in the same or multiple forums. Cross-posting a specific reply. This is also a form of spamming. Posting an image without a meaningful text. A meme is not a response to a discussion. They are usually disruptive and can be easily misinterpreted. The same is true for animated GIFs. Calling out other players or community members by name to shame them for actions or opinions you may disagree with. Naming and shaming is not tolerated. Posting in any manner that disrupts an official thread. Official threads are topics created by the Novaquark team for the purpose of collecting feedback and opinions. Threatening legal action. Unfortunately, this kills all conversation immediately as we must refer all further discussion to our legal team. To preserve the conversation intact and unaltered these types of responses may be immediately archived. Trolling (provoking) people. Flaming (insulting, attacking) people. Picking fights isn’t a good way to make your point. It usually means you don’t have one and are just trying to cause trouble. Using profanity. Including creative spelling or character substitution to bypass word filters. Using the report system in an abusive manner. This is a form of harassment and a tremendous waste of time for both staff and moderators. Discussions and comments involving real life politics, ideology or religion. These can be incendiary topics and will usually lead to inappropriate behavior and uncomfortable situations. Publicly posting any private discussions, conversations, or other material between a user and a Novaquark employee (confidentiality policy). Refusal to follow the directions of Novaquark staff or representatives.
The use of an alternate account to circumvent a forum suspension is forbidden at all times. Additionally, the use of alternate account(s) to influence or misrepresent opinions is strictly prohibited. All forum accounts must adhere to the forum rules and Code of Conduct. Failure to comply can result in disciplinary actions against all associated accounts.

Violating these guidelines may trigger a warning, followed by either a temporary or permanent suspension of forum privileges depending on the severity and frequency of the violations.

(IV) The following actions may result in the immediate suspension of forum privileges:
There are some actions severe enough to result in immediate temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges without prior notification. Serious or sustained offenses may result in suspension of not only the user's forum account but game account as well.

Threatening other members or Novaquark staff. No, “just joking’ is not a defense. We take this very seriously. Publicly revealing account or personal information of any person, community member or Novaquark staff. Posting harmful links pointing to viruses, malware, worms or trojans. Posting sexually explicit content. Including posting links to such content. Hate speech is not tolerated in any form. Attacking any ethnic group, religion, gender or sexual preference/identity. Promoting exploits, cheating programs, piracy or any sort of illegal activity. Attempt to impersonate Novaquark staff or another member of the community.
Violations of these rules may result in further steps taken with outside authorities or agencies. This may include your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and local or national Law Enforcement agencies.

    (V) Abide by moderators and Novaquark employee’s instructions.

If you disagree with a moderator or employee's actions, do not discuss or challenge the matter in forum posts. Send an e-mail to forum@novaquark.com, and be sure to include your forum handle (name displayed on the forum), but NOT your password, and clearly state your concerns.

RESET ANNOUNCEMENT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q:  As you are resetting the game progress, does this mean Dual Universe will be released at the same time?
A: The reset will be done very close to the official release of Dual Universe. A few days before official release, the Live server will enter maintenance mode, and during that time, the reset will be done.

Q: How do I add game time to my account if it is not working with Xsolla?
A: We are aware of the issue regarding the cumulation of game time when going through Xsolla. We are currently working on the issue. As a workaround for the time being, you can purchase game time codes from our official partner Markee Dragon.

Q: Will there be an Early Access or a Head Start session for those who have paid to play so far?
A: There will not be an early access or head start, everyone will start at the same time. We want to keep it as fair as possible with new players. All players will start on the first day, after the maintenance for the official release.

Q: Will we be able to choose between Haven and Sanctuary in the new FTUE?
A: At launch, everyone will start on Haven during the FTUE. However, players who have an additional Sanctuary Territory Unit as a reward from a Supporter Pack they pledged, will be able to settle themselves on the Sanctuary moon.

Q: What exactly do we get to keep with the reset?
A: While the server is going to be reset, there are several things that will remain with you. For the entire list, please read all about it here.

Q: Will it be the last reset?
A: One reason for the reset is linked to the release of the game, and that's a one-time event. Do we plan to do another reset in the future? Absolutely not. We've done everything we can think of to make sure that this will be the last reset. We have continuously worked to fix the issues that generated the reasons for this reset and this is the last planned reset for Dual Universe.

Q: Will we get to keep territory scans? Also, even if we don't get to keep scans, will the same tiles have the same resource levels after the wipe or will it all be reset and randomized?
A: No, ore will be redistributed across planets after the reset, and your scans will be removed in the reset.

Q: You said you're Resetting Sanctuary constructs too. Does that mean Gold Backers will reset and do the new FTUE, and receive the new Starter Constructs & Speeder?
A: Yes, everyone will do the new FTUE and everybody will have an outpost and a Speeder of their choice on Haven. It will be possible to claim a tile on the Sanctuary moon only if you have a Sanctuary Territory Unit from a Supporter pack (at least for the time being).

Q: Will there still be Daily Login Rewards after release?
A: Yes, for the time being we plan to keep the Daily Login rewards, but we reserve the right to adjust those daily rewards for in-game economy balance, if we deem it necessary in the future.

Q: Will players who are banned by using exploits have their bans lifted?
A: If the account was given a permanent ban, it will remain banned. If it was temporary, it would end at the date it was scheduled to end.

Q: When you say "You’ll also keep your Core Blueprints after reset" do you mean those core BPs that we are named as Creator in the BP, or all core BPs we have in our Nanopacks or personal constructs, irrespective of who the Creator is?
A: The creator of the blueprint is irrelevant to keeping it, if a core blueprint is in your nanopack or a container you own, you keep it. The creator of the core blueprint is not relevant and not considered in the keeping system.

Q: Will we get the magic blueprints we were promised at the start of Beta to replace our constructs after launch?
A: Magic blueprints generate elements in the game out of the blue, they are not crafted from resources produced within the game. When in small quantities, MBPs are acceptable, but in large amounts, as it would be at launch, it would jeopardize the starting economy. And thus we won’t be giving out magic blueprints.

Q: Will there be any bots that sell elements after the reset?
A: Yes, because with the current data we have, selling ores to the bot is one of the most used ways to earn quanta in the early game and removing that option would slow all of you down. Same for buying from Aphelia, it'll help you start quicker as you will need to recreate industries at release.

Q: Will the memberlist of each organization be wiped?
A: Yes. While only organizations without a player in the superlegate positions will be deleted, only the superlegate will remain in each organization. It will be up to the superlegate to re-invite all their members.

Q: Are the Pioneer Pack Talent Points and quanta paid out at the start of the month?
A: The pack rewards will be available at the end of each month (for the first 6 months), so that all players, new and old, start at the same pace.

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Wanderer in DUAL UNIVERSE LAUNCH DATE - WISHLIST US ON STEAM
    Dear Noveans,

We’re going to launch Dual Universe! If you missed our launch announcement live stream, you can watch the replay here, and you can also read on for all the details below.

Dual Universe has spent eight years in development, with the past two of those in beta. Our team has delivered industry-leading voxel technology, enabling players to build amazing worlds in a single-shard MMO like no other. We’ve advanced by leaps and bounds, adding systems like asteroid and territory mining, missions, new PvP mechanics, and more reasons to fight, as well as creation systems like the Vertex Precision Tool, new Lua API, and the Exchange for our creators to exhibit their works.

In short, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and are excited for what is yet to come.

Thank you for walking this road with us so far, and it is with great pleasure that we can finally release the details of the launch with you here today:
Dual Universe is launching on September 27, 2022. To enable the launch, we will close all servers on September 22, 2022, and keep them closed until the launch. All active subscriptions (excluding beta keys and full beta access) will receive 6 days of subscription at launch to compensate for this downtime.

Here’s a message from Novaquark’s CEO, Nouredine Abboud, on the launch:

    STEAM

We’re launching Dual Universe on Steam! It’s an exciting time for us at NQ as we bring our game to as many players who may enjoy it as possible and give those who prefer it the option to purchase the game on Steam.

Our Steam page is already live! You can support us by wishlisting Dual Universe on steam and recommending it to your friends, even if you already have the game!

The game will also continue to be available to buy on our website, as well as from our official reseller. And of course, you can still play it on almost any computer via the NVIDIA cloud-based platform, Geforce NOW.

    FREE TRIAL

We will implement a free trial of Dual Universe with the game’s launch, which will be available exclusively on Steam. We’ll have more details on this in future communications, but for those who want to try the game's mechanics without committing to a subscription, we’ve got you covered!
We will be opening a separate server for the free trial to allow anyone the chance to try the game for free without impacting the persistent server. This separate server will be regularly reset.

The game has come a long way during these two years of beta. We want to give every player, including those of you who stopped playing before the game’s new systems and gameplay loops were introduced, a chance to try them.

If you were subscribed to the game at any point during the beta, and your subscription has lapsed, we’re adding two weeks of game time on your account from the 27th of September. These two weeks will give you full access to the main universe. Come see what the game has to offer at launch; it’s on us!

    A NEW HELIOS

The launch will come with some welcome additions to the game. A major one is that we’re upgrading planets. The launch is a great chance for us to bring the game's worlds to life more and to breathe more identity into them. As NQ-Sirg has described before in Ask Aphelia, we had built the Helios system for the launch of Beta and didn’t have as much time as we would have liked to make fleshed-out, living worlds.

If you want a sneak peek at some of these changes, you can see them in the replay of our launch announcement live stream.

This upgrade means you will see new biomes that feel more vibrant and alive. Players will initially have access to:

    Alioth + Sanctuary + Haven (+ Moon 1 + Moon 4) Jago Teoma Madis (+ Moons 1, 2, and 3)

    Thades (+ Moons 1 and 2)

We’ll add more improved worlds back into the game in several phases. Please note that the release order below is still subject to change.

We are also adding more planetary body types into the game! The asteroid belts of Thades will be replaced with new, bigger asteroids which can now be claimed by players. We hope to introduce more claimable rocks around Helios after the launch.

    BLUEPRINTS

Whether you’ve got a small holding or a sprawling, multi-core space station, rebuilding after the reset will be easier with better blueprint deployment tools. As a reminder, you will keep your core blueprints after the reset, so we wanted to make your life easier when deploying them at launch. We have already added pre-visualization to blueprints with the ability to finely move their placement using keyboard controls. We’re also adding three new features at launch and in the first patch after the launch:

SNAPPING - When deploying a blueprint, you can snap to the grid of another, already placed core, like when placing a Space Core Unit. Along with pre-visualization and keyboard controls, this will allow you to perfectly align cores with one another while deploying blueprints. HONEYCOMB SWAPS - You can now change any honeycomb type inside of a blueprint with any other of your choosing. ELEMENT OMISSION - You can now opt to deploy blueprints with elements missing should you lack them or to simply choose different elements to omit from deployment by choice.
    COSMETICS

Another addition to the launch is better cosmetics. We’re adding the much-requested purple plastic and colored luminescent honeycomb. Our newly announced Pioneer Packs will reward beta players and backers with collectible items only available to them as a thank you for helping to bring the game to life. We’re also building on the NOVEAN OVERVIEW to help players better manage their customizations and skins, with much more cosmetic and quality of life improvements to come!

    KICKSTARTER REWARDS

In-game Kickstarter rewards will start being rolled out at launch, and we will share details about them in a dedicated communication. It will include topics such as how to update your physical-reward delivery address and how to claim your in-game rewards.

However, there is one piece of news that we want to share with you here. It’s an exciting time for any game developer when the project you have devoted years of your life to comes to fruition. We can already confirm that our Crowdfunding backers will be able to finally see their names in the credits at launch.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Launching Dual Universe is the start of a new chapter in the game’s story, a story that we as developers and you, our community, are writing together. We still have much to do, and we’re more excited now than ever to deliver a game that can live up to Dual Universe’s incredible potential.

If you have questions about the launch, please send them to us here so that we can answer them in a dedicated episode of Ask Aphelia.
You can also share your thoughts and feedback with us in this dedicated forum thread.

Thanks again to our players for an incredible journey so far. We can't wait to continue it with you.

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Wanderer in Grid Snapping - Announcement
    Dear Noveans,

We have a brief update on the upcoming changes to the blueprint deployment tool.

We had hoped to implement the grid-snapping feature at launch or in the first update after launch, but we’ve encountered a delay. We recognize that this is an essential tool for players to rebuild their multi-core constructs, and we’re working hard to implement it. You can expect it in one of the first updates after launch.

The voxel swapping and element omission features are still arriving with the launch.

Thank you for bearing with us. Rest assured that this is one of our top priorities.

BiGEdge reacted to Zychov in How to keep players after the wipe
There are a lot of interesting things going on in the game that very few players know about.
     - Spaceship races
     - Pvp skirmishes
     - Combined mining operations on exotic asteroids
     - Alien core raids
     - Constructs exhibitions
     - Did you knew, that you can earn money as a combat pilot and the organization provides you with all the equipment and pays you for the mere fact that you participate in maneuvers?

Players often don't know about all these opportunities, and even if they have heard about them they don't know how to access them.
Dual Universe is a game designed with the idea that players create their own content and entertainment, yet it doesn't have even the simplest system to reach other players with their events and content.

What if we made a message board accessible from the TAB menu?
Very simple. Location, time, contact player, event description, some kind of illustration and a list of categories by which such a board could be sorted.

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Nyota in Creative Director's Note: Details of the Reset
    Dear Noveans,

This is Cyrille Fontaine (NQ-Kyrios) again. I’m writing to follow up on our announcement video released earlier today. I’d encourage you to watch it if you haven’t already as it presents our decision to reset Dual Universe when we launch.

In this letter, I want to walk you through some of our reasons and give you precise answers on what you will keep after the server reset, as well as how we plan to reward Beta players for their investment in the game.

Deciding whether to reset the server of a persistent, single-shard game like Dual Universe is an enormous and challenging decision. It impacts many departments in the company, such as game design, server, live operations, production, community management, and well, pretty much everyone. But most importantly, it impacts our players. Players who have dedicated time, money, and passion to the game during beta.

But before we go any further, I want to address the elephant in the room: we started sharing information about the reset before we had solid answers because we wanted to give you clarity on our internal dialogues. Though this gave rise to many fantastic protest constructs, such as Vampskull’s intricate toilet paper ship, it also caused uncertainty for our community. I want to extend to you all a truly heartfelt apology for that and to thank you for your patience.

I’ll go through some of the factors we had to weigh below, but what lay at the heart of the decision for us was how we would reward the efforts, support, and contributions of our players during beta while still allowing new players the same opportunity to experience a fresh new solar system to settle at launch.

With that, let’s get into the details.

    WHY RESET?

    THE ECONOMY
Betas tend to have bugs and exploits, and Dual Universe has had its share of those. We’ve dealt with issues from item duplication and system exploits to our own missteps. We have improved our monitoring systems throughout the beta, but in order to balance our player-run economy for launch, we have to reset it.

    PERFORMANCE
It’s a technical necessity for us. The game has an extreme quantity of leftover and unused constructs. With changes to maximum construct slots and the Inactive Asset Requisition (IAR) system, the situation has improved, but a full reset will allow us to manage the data load well from the start without the burden of abandoned legacy constructs. With the new systems that we added during beta, data load should not become an issue again.

    BALANCE
The game’s launch will be a fresh start with every player on the same starting line. We want to give every player, whether a veteran or new, the same opportunity to experience the thrill of colonizing Helios during the first days and weeks after launch.

    NEW WORLDS
It’s also an opportunity to improve our planetary bodies in Helios. We want to give planets more identity, to implement what we didn’t have time to do when we launched the beta. We cannot do that while players are building and terraforming the planets. We also want to experiment with new types of planetary bodies, and a reset allows us to achieve these goals. More information on that will follow soon.

    WHAT WILL WE RESET?
Almost the whole game, with a few exceptions that I’ll cover below.

This means that everything from planets and territories to items and constructs will be reset. The game’s economy and player progression will also be reset, but we will give beta players back some of their talent points and other items through the Pioneer Packs detailed below.

    WHAT WILL PLAYERS KEEP?

As beta players, you will keep your name and contact list on the new server.

You’ll also keep your Core Blueprints after reset. Whether in a container aboard one of your constructs or inside a package, all of your Core Blueprints will be transferred to your nanopack. However, we’d recommend that you organize your Core Blueprints in your nanopack and create Core Blueprints of constructs that you would like to keep ready for the reset at launch.

You’ll also keep your organizations. Membership will be reset, but the superlegate will remain as the leader to carry the organization into launch with its name, logo, and manifesto intact. However, organizations belonging to other organizations will be erased.

Core Blueprints belonging to organizations, including those housed in containers and packages belonging to the organization will be transferred to the superlegate.

Your Two-Factor Authentication rewards will be reallocated to you after the reset. Your Recruit-a-Friend rewards will also be reallocated, with the exception of any game time rewards that you’ve already consumed.

    PIONEER PACK REWARDS
We’ve also put together three tiers of Pioneer Packs to reward our beta players and give them back some progression, such as a portion of their talent points. They are a thank you from all of us here at Novaquark for the support you’ve shown us during the beta and the time you invested in the game.

We’ll deliver these packages during our six-month launch event in a way that preserves balance at launch and allows new players the same opportunity to compete in the game’s economy. At the start, beta veterans will be in almost the same position as new players, but by the end of these six months, beta players and backers will have one of the three packages outlined below.

We’ll share more information soon on the server-wide talent point accelerator event, and the extra talent point awards for beta players and backers will be delivered on the last day of each month.

I want to thank all of you again for bearing with us while we resolved the reset question. We hope that the opportunity to relive the thrill of settling Helios is appealing to you. From the new first-time user experience to a whole canvas ready to be recalled to life, Dual Universe is waiting for you.

We ask that you please use this thread for discussion about this reset announcement.

We’re also creating a special episode of Ask Aphelia about the reset. If you have questions from our announcement video or this letter, please send them to us here.

Stay tuned for more news on the future of Dual Universe, and look for our next major announcement very soon.

BiGEdge got a reaction from marxman-1 in A letter to the devs...
    A Letter to the devs,

I have been supporting your vision of a Dual Universe since 2017.
It was a dream for me what you had planned with DU and hadn't seen it in any other game before.
A freely explorable and malleable universe for potentially millions of players from all over the world who develop policies together, band together in large communities and jointly create content and activities for other players and, with luck, emergent systems.
Novaquark wanted to provide the tools and server technology for this.
That's exactly what you did at Novaquark and kept almost all of your promises so far.
Many thousands of players joined together in huge organizations and created great things in a virtual parallel world to our Reallife, a metaverse and were very proud of our and your achievements.
My investment has already paid off umpteen times and my expectations have even been exceeded in many aspects.
I'm still waiting for planetwide PVP, the pets and finally sending me my supporter t-shirt, I've been cold for 4 winters now.
No seriously, you've really done a great job with the potentially revolutionary server technology and all this in a freely editable voxel world.
But a revolution also needs revolutionaries and people who share a revolutionary idea and also appreciate the dedication towards this goal.
There was a time when many members in the DU community shared this vision.
However, that time seems to be over.
To my dismay, I found that very few still share the Dual Universe's initial vision.

    What happened?
At the start of the beta there were the most players, but the game was probably not ready to handle the onslaught of players. The first two weeks of the beta launch were bumpy to say the least.
Despite a previous mass play test that was even worse.
Players who didn't start in the tutorial building, but together with the entire market complex many SU away in the middle of space. The world that wouldn't load and to the point of inexplicable game crashes and server crashes.
If you think of other games often have even more problems, DU scared off a lot of players with the beta start, but also kept enough to build a great world with lots of activities.
Tech Expos, Casinos, Giant Space Stations, Museums, Puzzle Games, Whole Cities and many more have been developed by players as content and activities for the game.
The economy prospered and was boosted by the introduction of Schematics into the production process.
At the time I was running stationary mobile trading and was able to earn many billions of quanta with it. Although the industrialists now had the problem that they could no longer produce everything themselves, the market was actively used as a result. Many players left the game because they saw schematics as an unnecessary constraint on their freedom rather than a way to have a healthy player-driven economy.
In the end, everything in DU is built around player interaction, and depends on how much players interact with each other, trade, PVP and destroy each other to keep the economy alive. Things that are produced must eventually be removed from the economic cycle and generate new demand, otherwise every economy will collapse at some point.
This has worked very well in EVE Online for many years, because there is always enough demand for new products generated there. Simply by the urge to expand and the gigantic losses of material that have to be used to do so.
In the Dual Universe, which was once described by large parts as a potential EVE 2.0 and Novaquark even hired former developers of EVE Online who also saw this potential in DU, there is unfortunately no such closed economic cycle "yet".
In DU everyone had everything at some point. The market demand fell to a minimum and the supply grew until it drove the price through the floor. This is called economic stagnation. When nothing is traded anymore because nothing is needed anymore.
Once all players have everything, they no longer need to pursue a goal and money has no value if players have enough money.
New players now have several disadvantages in DU.
Building factories costs them way too much quanta and they don't make any money anymore because the economy is down. It takes way too long for new players to make enough money to afford the schematics and the whole game feels more and more like endless grind and work with no value or rewards.
Player-made game content where you can earn Quanta is missing because few are willing to invest their fortunes in a depressed economy and no one is willing to invest in new players who are themselves frustrated that nothing can be done in reasonable timeframes goes ahead.
And the only option left seems to be a wipe.

The announcement of a potential wipe now had the following effect.
A lot of players who don't want to play until a possible wipe and those players who don't want to play after a wipe because everything worked out, a lot of playtime that was paid for with real money would simply be gone.
Some want the wipe and find it unfair that others have more because they were able to start playing Monopoly earlier.
The others see a way to get the economy and the entire game under control and all the problems that arose during the beta without a wipe.
A wipe only buys you time until the next wipe if the underlying problems are not fixed.
    1. A closed economic cycle
    2. An industry and a talent system that is fun and not frustrating
    3. A smooth game in player cities and larger buildings
    4. All content promised at Kickstarter (Planet PVP, Moon sized Space Stations and Citys with more than 10 FPS, Pets and Goodies)
    My questions now are...
Is there still the same vision for DU as at the beginning of the development?
Are Novaquark and the DU community still on a common path?
Can we do that again to make DU the revolutionary project and create emergence?
Does NQ still have the means and the motivation for it, or do you let the setbacks discourage you?
If the answers are yes, then NQ just has to keep doing their job as before and DU will be a success.
If the answers are no, then the community needs to do more to make DU successful and NQ set the bar by fulfilling their Kickstarter promises.
I still trust NQ, but I also see that a lot of players don't anymore and they see Dual Universe dieing. Mainly because of this announcement of a wipe.
Please don't leave us hanging on the ropes NQ.
Decide how you want to save your and our game and let us know your plans as soon as possible.
Right now it seems like you don't have a plan yourself.
Many Rumors that Novaquark is broke.
I don't want to see my dream game die.
I would like to justify the "Revive DU" campaign.
After the Schematics update, get all your friends, org members, and gaming groups out of retirement and let's save the economy.
Spend all your money and buy empty the markets and then discard all purchased items from inventory to clear them. This prevents a wipe, in which everyone loses everything and you will be able to produce again with high prices on the market.
NQ should then introduce a decay system asap so that the market remains lively and new products are offered on the market again and again.
As an alternative to a decay system, there shouldn't be any save zones, as in EVE Online, and there would always be a risk of losing everything you've worked out as soon as you log into the game.
NQ should create an overview, how many items and how much Quanta are in circulation in relation to the number of players. Statistics and reading them right ist the key.
This will show you very precisely in which direction the economy is going to countermeasure potential problems and when you have to react early and make game-mechanical adjustments.
If the Economy is not a steady up and down with a tendency to grow, it will not work.
You can also see it in the price. And at least reintroduce market bots until a working decay system is implemented. The market bots can help stabilize prices and give new players the opportunity to start making money again.
Let the market bots buy and withit destroy many oft the created Elements and Products.
Quanta gains value again and players get something for their efforts to build a production again.
A wipe becomes unnecessary as soon as all game mechanics interlock.
The game mechanics mesh once all the game mechanics are built in.
Once all promised game mechanics are in place, a wipe becomes unnecessary because all issues have been resolved.
A wipe can either revive the game for 1-2 years until the next wipe becomes necessary
or a wipe can kill the game for good without NQ trying to change all the necessary game mechanics.
The fact that NQ have already started changing game mechanics like the Schematics system shows that they are trying to save the game without a wipe first.
But please share NQ, take a look for yourself at the community, what moves and then communicate.
I still share the vision for DU from the Kickstarter campaign back then.
Please share with us your current vision and ambition.

    Thank you for reading…
    sincerely your #DU-Fan-NR1

BiGEdge reacted to NQ-Nyota in PLANNED HONEYCOMB CHANGES
    Hello, Noveans,

This is NQ-Entropy here to talk about our upcoming honeycomb HP and mass rebalance.

We know that our current system doesn’t serve the game well and we want to improve it. We are changing the way that honeycomb masses work, specifically, we are detaching them from their base material mass and unifying honeycomb masses into categories. We will also change how honeycomb HP is calculated and rebalance resistances across the board.
We also want to invite your thoughts on the proposed changes. The honeycomb mass and hp system impacts almost every area of Dual Universe, from shipbuilding to piloting and PvP. There’ll be an image at the end outlining the details of our proposed changes and a feedback thread where we want to hear your thoughts.

Now, let’s dive into the details.

SEPARATING HONEYCOMB MASS FROM ITS BASE MATERIAL

In the past, our baseline for the weight of our honeycomb materials was directly based on their base pure and product materials. While a calculation was made to transform it into “honeycomb mass”, it was a straight transformation.

For example: currently, the unit mass for a liter of Pure aluminum is 2.7kg, making its honeycomb mass 27kg for 1m3 (1000L). If a material weighs 2.2kg, its honeycomb mass would be 22kg/1m3.

This will no longer be the case, and we will take some liberties when transforming pure and product materials into honeycomb. This will allow us a wider range of weights, with a better distribution of weights at all tiers.

While we are taking precautions, this will have an effect on existing constructs. There are certain materials that will relatively drastically change in weight, and that could have an effect on existing constructs. We are actively trying to match the new and old masses as closely as possible, but there will be some outliers. It's worth noting that some materials will also benefit from weight reductions.

    UNIFYING HONEYCOMB MASSES

To summarize, each pure honeycomb tier can access four mass classes: very light, light, heavy, and very heavy. Each existing pure material will take one of these 4 mass slots per tier.

Each product honeycomb will have 2 weight classes: light and heavy, with the addition of a special very light honeycomb at tier 1 for plastic. Similarly, each existing product honeycomb will take a light or heavy slot per tier.

Finally, we will have building materials such as Concrete, Brick, Wood, Carbon-Fiber, Marble, and Luminescent. These will have exceptionally light weights and are designed to be used explicitly for building with minimal mass.

Currently, our proposed values go as low as 2-3kg/m3 for the lightest building honeycomb and up to 100kg/m3 for Very Heavy Pures, which are now the heaviest honeycomb in the game.

    HEALTHPOINT CALCULATIONS

Pre-combat core stress and pre-Shields, we had linear honeycomb HP based on mass. At that time, the meta was huge blocks of indestructible gold capable of absorbing massive amounts of punishment. This was possible in high part due to our poor initial voxel balancing, which specifically made gold a significant outlier. In an effort to curb that strategy, we made a number of changes to voxel health, firstly drastically reducing honeycomb HP and eventually introducing CCS. By the time that was done, Shields had taken over, and voxels were sparsely used on PvP constructs. Additionally, we now also have to consider the new speed limitations in the mass vs HP choice when it comes to honeycomb.

Now, with unified masses that we can better control and with CCS to control the extreme upper end, we are bringing back linear calculation of honeycomb HP based on mass. Simply put, a multiplier is applied to the voxel mass, which defines the HP of that material.

This will allow players to select light and heavy materials without feeling like there is a bad tradeoff in regards to their mass and their HP.

Currently, the mass to HP multiplier is set to 45. For the aforementioned very heavy materials of 100kg/L, that will give you 4500 raw HP.

    REBALANCING RESISTANCE

We are not fundamentally changing how resistances work but are adjusting their values across the board. Resistances are generally increasing to provide better absorption and superior effective HP compared to previous iterations.

Resistances will still go up on a tier-by-tier basis, with building materials having the lowest resistances, then pures, and finally, high-tier products, which will have the best resistances.

We paid attention to two numbers in particular: Effective Healthpoints and Effective Healthpoints per unit of mass.

First, we wanted effective health points to make sense. We wanted honeycomb bulkheads to be capable of absorbing real firepower, and we wanted honeycomb to be good enough to protect elements inside a construct. While the final values and balancing may not be perfect, this is currently something that is starting to work. We’ve run tests with honeycomb bulkheads about a meter thick, roughly representing the armor on a medium-sized ship, and it was more than capable of absorbing multiple hits from max talented L weapons and protecting the elements we had placed behind them. Only after a good amount of shots did holes appear and elements behind start being vulnerable.

We ran multiple tests and generally found that they aligned with our expectations. Lower EHP materials were relevant vs xs and s weaponry but rapidly fell to larger weapons, medium EHP honeycomb was relevant versus medium-sized weapons, while high EHP honeycomb was capable of taking hits from large weapons.

Secondly, we wanted an EHP/mass curve that made sense as you progress up the material tiers. As of right now, going up a tier of a pure or a product guarantees a superior EHP/mass ratio with high-tier products having the best ratio on offer. This should ensure that going up a tier and upgrading your construct to a superior material is never a bad choice.

Finally, a small note on Core Combat Stress. It is currently unchanged as the tests we made noted the new honeycomb values lined up well with the old CCS settings. In view of that it is also a case of not wanting to change too many parameters at once so that in case of further iterations, it is easier to identify issues for tweaking.

    FEEDBACK

It’s important to us that we get this rebalance right. Honeycomb’s role in PvP has impacted players significantly from the beta’s start. These changes will also impact many other areas of gameplay such as shipbuilding by altering honeycomb mass. Before implementing these changes, we want to invite your thoughts, especially on the numbers. If you have opinions on how we’re rebalancing honeycomb, please share them with us in this forum thread.

Here is the full breakdown of the proposed changes:

We look forward to hearing from you, Noveans.

Until next time, thank you for your attention.

Yes, add in a sims update and numbers will be reached.

There is literally nothing to do after you build something.
And all ideas from the past that can still be found on this forum to include stuff to do are just ignored.

we have showers and beds but cannot shower or sleep
we have toilets, ok lets skip that.
there are vegetables but we cannot harvest or eat
we cannot cut trees and use them

we cannot listen or dance to music or even entertain friends

and no a build puzzle is no direct entertainment.

add a sims update and they will come

    You know,
i try to put me into NQ. Has something to do with being empathic.
If i was NQ, i see the active players i would cry and lose ambition to work for those whining, ungrateful but paying customers.
Even if you listen to suggestions, deviate from the plan and the initial vision to fulfill stupid suggestions that were never planned,
work your ass of to implement many of those things into a game where the players were intend to create the content.
Dosnt it feel like a waste of time, when the community is whining even louder after you devided from the plan to just implement the tools for the players and not the content?
Well if i were NQ i would think about ever listening to this ungrateful community again and try to finish the project as soon as possible without breaking too many promisses.
I would tell the community to not being that negative and tell NQ not just where they failed, but also where they have done something good.
But hey i allways try to be empathic, im not a fanboy...
Well... i lied, im a Fanboy after all 😜

Jokes aside, let us remind NQ why we wanted this game, why they wanted to fulfill this vision and let them DU theyre job...
    And lets DU our job.
Both sides are the reason if DU will be unsuccessful. Not just NQ, but also the Comunity.
We in Germany have a saying
Sweep in front of your own door
    or
    Grab your own nose
Means befor critizising others, check if you cannot do it better, or
If you rely on others, then you are abandoned. So you have to do your job first

Im not that negative about NQ,
i know they read everything and they know exactly what the community wants.
They tell us in they're podcasts that they listen to us. And i really believe they do.
So many gamefeatures were implemented only because of the voice from the community.
More market interaction - they implemented Schematics and it worked as intended
Easier Tools for Voxelmancy - they implemented the Vertex precision tool
Activitys for PVP and PVE - they implemented Shipwrecks and Alien Stations for PVP
Just three suggestions that came from the community and have been implemented.
NQs time is limited, but ive never heard from NQ that the budget is yet. So i have faith in them, they will save the economy and implement planetary PVP befor the release.
I have faith that they get the games economy running without a wipe that will kill the game entirely.
And i have faith that NQ is still up for the initial vision of DU and working on it.
I have less faith in the playerbase, because i see many players who joined the game, espeacially after the beta start, who havnt recognized the vision of DU and many dont seem to understand what DU is all about.
Dual Universe was never planned as a game build by developers to entertain players.
Dual Universe was planned as a parrallel world to our real world with all its good and bad sides.
Good is everything the kickstarter page told us. a virtual world build by players for players and all activitys come from the players.
Bad is that everyone has to work for it. You have to work in the game and yes the game feels like work, because it was allways intended to be.
But Work that pays out, with activitys for players and an emergent ecosystem, where the players build orgs, orgs build citys, citys that have to be defended against other players and naturally grow.
It seems many players have forgotten that they have to build the games content with all the many tools NQ gave us.
Not the devs build the world and the activitys. The players DU
Only task for NQ is to make those tools engaging, so we enjoy that work.

DU had a chance with right chain of priorities from early stages of development.

Best shot was much more political-social game, where interaction of player-made entities were main thing. Like EVE with 1st person, even with all limitations and trade-offs.

Yet NQ chosen to make it some some sort of half-assed building/grinding/flying_for_long_time game. This unlikely have any long run chance to survive. Simply too little of semi-solo nerds interested in building some crap 1000 hours from voxels or play 2000 hours with industry sitting alone on empty planet. Its not even niche, its like deep hole in niche.
