The fact that you compare this game to games not PvP-centered does not make DU all about crafting. Heck, those games aren't even MMOs (except maybe that Dark and Light one, looks like a weird mix between a traditional grindfest MMO and ARK) and offer to perspective on the massive Org vs. Org PvP meta that might occur in DU because of it's scale and PvP elements.

Yes, a lot of time will be spent on crafting and resource gathering for most people. PvP will however not be a "minigame to take a break" in this Sandbox MMO PvP Game, but instead a core element - at least certainly for the bigger organizations.

Sometimes I get the feeling people forget this is a MMO.

Well if we have space Mexico then we obviously need a space wall. Can't have all these undesirables roaming space freely, some might be ok people I don't know, I hear things. A great glorious space wall that we'll make the Space Mexicans pay for.

The Cydonian Empire is looking for people who can take a joke in places other than their rectum~

    can you:
Lock a target and hit F1?
    Drink your own bodyweight?
Jump when the fc says don't jump?

If so, you're just what we're looking for~

lets drink our way to the top and wonder how we got there

And don't worry, I don't sound so plastic in actual conversations send me a message or a mail to learn more about our plans

on the other hand, if you're from tumblr and everything makes you upset, I'm afraid this is not your safe space, find another place to complain about your victimhood

Constructs are not planned to have moving parts (beyond single element doors), at least not at release.  So you can have a mecha shaped ship, but no moving "limbs".

On my wishlist are rails for things like trains and elevators. And then Space Engineer (SE) like pistons and rotors.  Pistons and rotors should be enough to build a transforming ship.  Though whether it will happen is unknown. And if it does, I expect them to blow up less than the SE ones.

Still a good idea.  Keep them coming.

    Edit:  Hinges could also work

I'm getting very excited about the possibilities of this game. So much so I've watched several video teasers many times.

What I saw was extremely encouraging and all I want is to get my hands on it, like many others here I imagine.

So my thought is this. Would it be possible to create for instance a 500m square world. With a simple platform for constructing vehicles and small ships.
To get on the creative side that's already been shown. Obviously use of said vehicle would be limited as the space in the mini game would be extremely limited.

Even if the modules placed had no functionality, to trial small designs play around with layouts, even dabble in the scripting I heard mentioned.

I know this will never happen haha. I think I'm just super keen to see this game happen. It has the potential to be a real game changer. I only wish I had the finances to of backed/pledged more to get alpha access.

As a last note. If this was to be possible. The testing that would be done with it by myself and all these other super hyped fans could be if great benefit.
Hell, I'd even contribute more to have a little play

    Have a great day.

hmm, I think this is a good idea, but rather, have weapons give off a signature that your scanners can pick up, the larger the weapon, the more potent the signature, this gives all kinds of options for trickery, such as phony sig generators, "silenced" weapons that produce no or lower signature, and the opposite for scaring the locals

If your org wont's to make a protected zone they will need a way to find where people are being attacked.

Personally I am thinking of one specific component in many many different various forms - and I am quite sure most of you will agree with me.

    Doors. . .

    Double Doors. . .

    Hidden Hatches. . .

    Hidden Doors. . .

    Really Large Doors. . .

    Hangar Gates. . .

and the list goes on and on. . .

Essentially what I mean by this, is I am quite sure most of us do not want to stare at the same type of door every day. It will be a object we will most likely be interacting with on a daily basis many many times. So when you do the game, at least give us quite a few varied choices on which doorway / hatch / entryway to use.

the only problem is, it looks like it automatically displays your name above your head.   Which I hate in a game, cause you don't know me how do you already know my name

I think it is safe to say that, especially in sudden random encounters (if not in general),VOIP will be useful or rather the most useful tool compared to text. Text input is more clear and you can go back and read it. Vocal comms could be distorted or perceived as such (you did not catch something the first time).

But vocal comms are faster on average. You don't have use your hands to type while your attention can remain on a situation rather than the keyboard. In fighting it gets worse if you solely rely on text without any vocal comms.

Whatever your preference is, local VOIP will usually favor or encourage player interaction or even resolve certain situations - as some have stated. The benefits outweigh the possible come in my book.

Without gameplay mechanics a pub or a bar is pretty pointless in a video game. Star Wars Galaxies used buffs from music, dance, or any other entertainment to solve this. Because this the bars were crowded. They were good places to take a breather. I hope this system will make its way to DU.

Come to think of it, what would be the cheapest food to grow in space?
Here on earth it's often wheat, but I've heard wheat has difficulties when it comes to hydroponics. Maybe rice?

I'd suggest potato's but I don't want Matt Damon to sue DU...

After reading the lore(parts 1-5), I think they allude to game mechanics that the devs are hoping for. I could see food and water(or beverages) as being something to help with energy(which might come back on its own) or help you get health back faster. This way you are limited to things like health packs and stim packs. Would make the game more immersive, without making it a requirement.

I am all for it, but I would like a more elegant design that doesn't put it in the center stage.

In games where survival-horror is the focus, it makes sense to have multiple bars and have the player freak out on the currently lowest one - the most nearing cause of death - but in a game where you want this as an enrichment rather then a distraction, you could simplify it into a supply unit you can craft, made out of the basic supplies you would need within a certain time frame. Instead of dying the moment it's gone, it could have an incremental negatives: once reaching a certain line within the supply bar your suit automatically starts budgeting your supplies more and more and you get certain negative effects on your health and attributes.

This should only be a factor when you are trying to survive somewhere out there or in encouraging players to build life support systems. While you are in the safety of arkships, your supplies should be completely provided for.

Potentially this can be combined with a fuller survival system as well: Have the multiple bars thing and multiple actions to reduce each of them, but then hide and replace the bars with the general supply bar when you have a supply unit on you.
