  1. I will... when I'm otherwise just hanging around waiting for a factory to pop something out.
  2. Yeah... back in Alpha/Beta days GTFO of Alioth was my number 1 goal. I use to like to set up camp on Jago (pretty water world). But at least as of PTS RC1.0, Jago no longer has the basic 4 ores - so it would be hard to bootstrap there. Edit: I should note that ore distribution is rumored to change at launch from what they have shown us in Demo & PTS.
  3. That is an approach, but I timed it yesterday, and it takes me just a bit over 30 minutes to make a S Static Core, once I've set my Talents up. I suspect it would take me that long to disassemble my starter outpost - and all the outpost have a few nice features your going to want: Some storage to use as your initial linked container, a resurrection station, and a VR station (for doing those tutorials later). I haven't verified, but I think that all have a station for tracking achievements as well. Prior to making the S core, I had planned on using the Pilot output and build it up since it has lots of open space for industry. However, I found myself still spending time stripping away unwanted stuff to make more room, and the resulting factory being rather unorganized (e.g. ugly in my world view).
  4. I mean the ones I'll make first. The tutorials are not going anywhere and I should have enough Quanta early on. I just think of those as banked money. eg: Small Static Core, (3) metalworks, (3) electronics, etc. The things I need to bootstrap a factory into a factory-making-factory.
  5. Oh, just a reminder: You have until launch (well, at least through the 26th) to add subscriptions at the Beta rate. You can do so via: https://store.markeedragon.com/index.php?cat=360 If for some reason your reading this, but have not created your account, or any alt accounts you want to fund before the 27th, you can do so here: https://www.dualuniverse.game/signup?recruiter=23449 Cheers!
  6. So... its getting close. Markee Dragon has stated that launch is at 13:00 UTC (9am Eastern), but that has not been collaborated by NQ. Demo server has been active and used by folks like me to plan our launch sequence. I have (5) sticky notes developed via the Demo for my future life as an Industrialist. 1) Hour 0 - where to go, what to build, what levels of Maintain to put on my starter industries , etc. 2) Organizational notes and a fuller outline of what is required for my starter factory, laid out by row. 3) Which schematics to work on to avoid lost time in that process 4) Early notes (like colors of surface rocks I've now memorized), links to key websites, etc. 5) Initial talents to be trained (first 2M points) (1M by default, 1M for having 2FA setup - just DU it folks!) Curious what other people have done to prepare and/or starting strategies? I'll start with my plans to use the Outpost Station since it has the largest built-in storage (14000 L). I'll be building a S static core as my first step (takes about 30 minutes after Talents are trained) and building my first factory off of that. Having a larger linked container just means I'll spend less time dealing with inventory space issues. Of course those will remain an issue until I make my first M container - after that space becomes a much smaller problem. My first factory's goal are to kick out M containers for Org use and resale, L miners for initial internal use then resale, and factory industries to help propagate factories in my Org. What are others planning on doing? Any suggestion on other things to do in Demo to help kill time?
  7. Backers will received DACs - Dual Universe Access Coupons - each of which is good for 1 month to time codes. As a Patron backer, I'll get 12 - worth roughly what I invested back in 2018. I think the company line is that Beta subscriptions were discounted because it was beta, but that the new pricing was always what they had in mind (and that is reflected in the number of DACs vs. backing cost). And in case you missed it, you can still buy subscriptions (through the 26th) at the old price via: https://store.markeedragon.com/index.php?cat=360 All time codes applied now will carry forward on launch.
  8. There are some advantages of being older than dirt. I was out of college by then and into my 2nd real job - but that timing sounds about right. Another classic was "Today is the first day of the rest of your life". I remember first hearing that from like 8th grade, call it the late 60s, maybe early 70s.
  9. You can still buy time codes here and apply them: https://store.markeedragon.com/affiliate.php?id=946&redirect=index.php?cat=360 Think that affiliate is Blazemonger, but you can edit that out if you wish. I bought a 3 month for my son today and he applied it without problem. You are too late to get the Pioneer rewards - that closed down on the 22nd. Note that is an NQ official time code site - they even reference it in a post on the shutdown. Time is running out to get the beta pricing (e.g. $9.95/month) vs. release pricing ($15/month) - just a day or two to go on that, although any time code you buy now can be applied later.
  10. Wow. Nice hack of that quote <smile>. Didn't Greenspan say that originally? I had thought it was a Nixon quote, but can't find it being attributed to him. "I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU THINK I SAID, BUT I AM NOT SURE THAT YOU REALIZE THAT WHAT YOU HEARD IS NOT WHAT I MEANT"
  11. Welcome back. It will be interesting to see how many of the original Alpha and later Beta players come back. The Demo server has been pretty lightly loaded, with a peak of under 300 players. I jumped back in on the PTS RC 1.0 server for the few days it was up, and have spend a few on the Demo server. Now just waiting... and hoping... So many things can go wrong - I hope they pull it off. I'm still not happy about Schematics, and fear that it won't take much to get to the point where my character is simply making schematics all day long to feed a fairly mediocre factory, but time will tell. Of course, annoyed at the loss of most of my ~100M talent points I had. But I can live with both, grudgingly. Currently the lack of an announced launch time is giving me an ulcer.
  12. I'm not betting on it. I bought a 1 month subscription just to be sure everything will work as expected the moment the servers come up. The lack of a launch time is giving me an ulcer. I have a countdown timer for 0 UTC - that's about 6pm on the 26th for me. Going to be VERY annoyed if they don't announce a launch time and I end up spending 14+ hours checking the servers for what turns out to be a mid-day GMT launch. I heard on the Discord channel that the developers have confirmed there will be no headstarts this time. Imagine the outrage if the ATV group got early access... Glad that is not happening.
  13. I've put several days into the demo server. My 3rd screen is littered with notes. I'm ready. But honestly can't think of much else I'd want to do in Demo.
  14. I don't think so, but am not 100% sure - will try in a bit. But a newbie to the game is not going to know that. Update: Carter on the forum proved it. You can only compact items with an XS dynamic core.
  15. The outpost station description is a bit confusing. It leads one to believe its movable, then in fact its just fairly cheap to blueprint and rebuild. Since it has containers, you cannot re-compact it once deployed.
  16. NQ not communicating? Hello. This is their status quo. The Trial server was up for over a day before they announced it...
  17. There doesn't appear to be a steam key, steam simply installs the game in its space and then launches. Once launched you log-in as usual. All access appears to be via time codes.
  18. Given a weekly wipe, I suspect they will tweak the tables routinely. At least I hope to god these are table driven factors and not hard coded. Its one thing to customize a table, its another to maintain 2 divergent source trees.
  19. My understanding from Discord conversations is that these changes, hopefully simply table entries, are just for the demo. Wouldn't make sense, for example, to require an uncommon ingredients to build a TU that would require 30-40 hours of building to make, just to have it reset in a week.
  20. You can surface farm all the reserved tiles around markets and spaceports. Ah... sorry for the double post. Alas, don't see an option to delete.
  21. You can surface farm any of the reserved tiles around the spaceports.
  22. I like that the tables are different - things like Territory Units are craftable in a Medium unit using all Tier 1 materials (which you can make in your nanopack). Still takes 8 hours to cook one - which is a good chunk of a demo week. However this should be called out someplace so people don't freak when they get to the real servers. Found it odd that Sanctuary exist given that nobody will have STUs. I suppose its useful for surface mining Natron and Chromium.
  23. Great question! At one point, like 2ish years ago, they said "Yes". Today? Who knows.
  24. Ok - just have to get this off my chest: I liked the game a LOT more at 0.22. I thought replacing the mining approach was ok - until I saw someone with 80+ mining units in a single segment. That does NOT look exciting. Shields are cool, will give them that. Emphasis on PVP when the rest of the game is in such bad shape was annoying. Don't know how, but honestly feel they need to stop (perhaps in 3-6 months when players drop?), go back to the original premise of a player driven sandbox, and abolish the trend of "Its a sandbox, you can play it anyway you want... so long as we agree with your approach. If you don't, we will force you to agree to our approach."
