Well I'm pretty late to the party here... but I have a fairly large player group and we have been utilizing Discord for several months and I have to say it has become the heart and soul of our communication . We usually have several hundred folks on there at any given time for both voice and chat (broken down into several sub-channels of course) and it works great.

I'm currently the leader of a group with 600+ folks, http://inara.cz/wing/286. We are looking to expand into more of a gaming community to encourage our members to support other sims, such as Dual Universe. This concept sounds like something just about everyone has been looking for and we are very excited to be able to assist with alpha testing as soon as the time comes.
