Frankly, when they promoted the game with Build large, Spacestations as large as the moon, play alone or with others, Freedom rich PvP Player driven Market, build civilization!
I did not think it would turn up like this.
What we got was something totally different:
Build on large cores what is  very small, spacestations very small and large is possible by placing more cores that you cannot link or merge with eachother so you have a borgcluster and not a station, Do not play alone or we will Find you and limit you and also we give out gifts to large organizations but dont tell, Freedom within limitations and boundaries, Plaer driven to NPC markets, rich through exploids not PvP, build puzzles not civilazation.

@NQ-AdminI (probably we, if i know the others who are critical as well as i think)  still love the original concept and do think NQ has some really great developers but the strategical desicions made do the project more harm then good and when you look at what it Can be verses what it is going to be, the road we are walking now leads to a limited vanila modless SE server with Clanginized PvP and defect B&R and only lvl1 handdrilling allowed with extra restrictions on production blocks and progression steps cost an exponential factor per level.

I already have SE with less restrictions, why would i need one with more?

Please live up to your potential!  Do not linger in satisfaction for dreams half progressed, Be what you Can be, Live Life Die another day, Roll Back instead of growing molds, Be Brave and go there where No Company has gone before! Reach out to the community because We did hear you, we did read your posts and we do see the strugle that is there. We Do want to support, But Damn you make it so hard for us to actually do so.

Critizism and comments are easier given to those/things you carry close to the heart as you want them/it to flourish. You do not punish your kids because you hate them, you try to teach them ways to be glorious adults.

Dont see our comments and critizism in any other way, We love your game, we love your work. But the direction this leads to we have seen fail before and we want to keep this glorious project from going into That route.

Even if it there was some specific way (please show me) for new players to 'easily' get decent progress without running the mining gantlet, after 0.23 the entire premise of the game is broken.

    Remember, the initial promise was:
And 0.23 is the complete antithesis of this.

Way back when I pitched in as a patron, I did so because the game had such potential.  The voxel editing capability in designing ships and bases is what had me hooked, but back then there were a lot of mechanic issues with the game, so I gave it a break for a year.

Now that I'm back, I've given it a month and if this is the direction DU is heading, meh - no thanks.

First off, making a game that is fundamentally one of the most versatile BUILDING games out there, and forcing pvp content makes about as much sense as braille buttons on a drive thru ATM.  Sure, I've heard the rumor that everything you need is in the safe zone, but with the addition of these ridiculous schematic roadblocks in EVERY step, half those being sold only in pvp space for amounts I frankly have no way of earning once I restarted is about as exciting a prospect as gouging my eye out with a spoon.

Only add to that the fact that in order to buy the few things I can afford after waiting for 3 or 4 days (with the daily allowance we're given), making those trips take at least an hour (after you factor in the crappy engines I can only afford now and the inevitable crash and ship repair which happens EVERY time I get booted offline during landing), well that's just like putting a bit of lemon juice on the spoon before the eye gouging begins.

Maybe as someone who would love a game I can dive into and start building is too much to ask for, but under the current construct this clearly isn't worth my time.  I suppose I'll keep my eye open and see if anyone wakes up and focuses on some of these fundamentals, but I'm not holding my breathe...

The only thing that saves this burning dumpster fire besides removing all ill gotten schematics or a rollback is to flat come out now and say there will be a full wipe before release. Seriously NQ, you need to own this one way or the other. Either tell us all it doesn't matter cause it's all getting nuked downed the road anyway, or act like professionals and fix it.

Even if I'd heard of it, I probably wouldn't recognize the abbreviation because i usually don't except for games I play a lot.

I guess the problem with DU is that creativity is expensive, so just the existence of combat that can destroy your creative work, is a pressure not to do the work. It also makes any features of a build that don't contribute to winning a fight to risky... so we get borg cubes. ?‍♀️

I just think that a pirate shouldn't get in minutes what a miner spends hours making thats all. So yeah I may have worded my last post poorly. And I totally take that back if it actually takes a pirate hours of stalking and standing watch to catch some cargo ships. It just seems like right now there should be lots of opportunities with everyone having  to rely on mining for money. It would just suck to spend all that time for someone to steal it with less effort. Also it probably would help to know that I don't really mine or pirate im more or less just trying to get into the conversation lol.

You just described the space engineer server options where you need to fix those yourself.

Problem with DU is that they had a clear vision, nice kickstarter goals and alot of people here reacted to that and the possible awesomeness of the implications. But now we have a sort of kickstarter version .23X and it does not resemble what most of us signed up for. But after investing between 5 euros/dollars/whatever and 4000 the same players have not much other options then just accept and play. But frankly the information and sales talk when i invested was completely different from where we stand now, it is abit going for a top of the line watercooled gaming PC and paying for it and then a few weeks later they sent a calculation board with an industrial fan, monopoly and a small tv and still take all your cash. And when you ask what that is they just tell you you can place it all together in a small space and combine the use.

PvP is only accessible in PvP areas. You want PvP? Stick to PvP area. What's the problem?

That's exactly how DU is advertised (see above). It seems DU is not the right game for you. It can't be the PvP heaven you are looking for. Everything you are destroying needs to be build by other players. This is only possible if destroying is much more difficult than building or if there is much more non-PVP than PvP. That means in order to make the game a success NQ needs to keep everybody out who is just looking for easy pray - either out of safezones or out of the game.

As there is _no_ counter to attacks currently in game, I'd say that suggestion is rather one sided.
"put guns on your ship" is not a counter.

With the amount of senseless and pointless pewpew currently in game and the amount of loopholes and borderline exploits giving attackers a massive advantage I'd say NQ needs to bring in proper countermeasures and introduce ways to deal with logged off beacon alts before giving more room to those looking for kills instead of fights

I'd say, while NQ proceeds on the PVP overhaul they have announced, why don't you find and engage with like-minded players where you will actually get a risk/reward ratio from combat  PVP..

Hi! New-ish player here with a question for the Devs. I wasn't sure where to post this exactly so, I figured I would drop it here and hopefully, they will see it. Anyway, as a female gamer, this is the first time I have played a Voxel type game and so far, I am fairly impressed. That being said, when I look at what is being projected for the future of DU, I am a little concerned about the game loop. This is my understanding of what DU will be in the future. Mine, build, make ships, fight other players constantly to hold on to that which I have built. Repeat. So far, no mention of NPCs, no real exploration, or jobs outside of always having to be prepared for war. I am not asking that anything necessarily be changed, I would just like to know if there are any plans in the works for non pvp players like me. Will I actually have a place in this game?
Again, this is a question for the Devs, not player speculation.
Also, please do not just tell me to stay on Sanctuary. That is just demeaning and dismissive.
    Thank you!

I was totally in love with this game pre #23...I even went out a bought a beast PC when I started in Oct, just to play it. I was sucked in by the marketing, and even though it was pitched as a Beta, the impression promoted by NQ is that its waaaaaaay more developed than it is.
Even though it was a bit repetitive, you could usually achieve something in the game, even in just small steps: you always felt like you were moving forward.  Now the tiny pay-offs for huge amounts of tedium, mixed with the brutal damage to cores and element repair,  simply dont feel worth the investment of time. It is basically dull, frustrating and tedious.
I have REALLY tried since the patch to find something in it, and be positive; so I ventured off Alioth to get some decent ore. Upon my return, a glitch caused there to be no altitude/distance data and suddenly I was in the atmosphere, far too fast. Burned up and respawned on the other side of the planet. Now its drudgery-tastic picking up what i need to repair and getting back to sell some t5 that took a day to get out of the ground.  But then do what? rinse & repeat...  the game is 'all fur coat and no knickers' -  theres no substance behind it. No content.

I am now logging in daily just to colled my $ and hoping that something will change soon, because right now it is dulll A.F. and all my interest in it has seriously evaporated.

1 mine rocks, use crappy hover to sell rock to bots.
    2. use money to buy ship parts - to build ship that can carry more rocks - while traing up mining only skills
    3. mine more, train more, sell more.
    4. Make bigger ship to haul more rocks to sell to bots.
    5. mine more train more sell more rocks to bots.
6 BUILD BIG SHIP to scan for large underground rocks to mine, then sell to bots, while more mining skills train.
    7. mine more, train more, sell more.
    8. BUILD MASSIVE SHIP WITH WARP TO TRAVEL TO OTHER WORLDS IN A BLINK----WHY?
9 TO MINE MORE, DIG DEEPER, BUT NOW ON ANOTHER PLAENT....YAY END GAME!

wheres the PvP - dead due to industry change.
where is the industry - WELL YOU GOTTA MINE MORE, SELL MORE, TRAIN INDUSTRY-

10 so you can start making a starter factory.
    11. MINE MORE SELL MORE TRAIN MORE INDUSTRY
12 - now spend that all on thousands of schematics needed to produce anything at a rate you can profit off of. but basic stuff only right now.
    13. MINE MORE DIG MORE SELL MORE TO BOTS, TRAIN THAT INDUSTRY.
    14. Buy a dozen more machines,
    15. MINE MORE SELL MORE, TRAIN MORE.
    16. now SPEND ALL THAT ON THE 500 SCHEMATICS you need to run the next set of machines you bought.
    17. MINE MORE SELL MORE TRAIN MORE.....at some point you might be able to use the ORE TO ACTUALLY MAKE STUFF WITH INDUSTRY...but not yet...

Before many felt like they had nothing to do  - they had a factory that could produce everything and they just needed to sink in hours mining to throw in the ore to get the stuff out on the other end.

Now - they need to sink in months of mining to get the same factory running again. They have a 'goal' now - to get back to where they were a week ago - or they can quit.

From what I've seen this past year in DU and from my 30+ years of gaming and 10+ years of game development, I can say that:

    - NQ is inexperienced with game development and more generally with software development. They're learning both as they go making a lot of mistakes.
    - The game is clearly not designed from the ground up to be a game. Like some other projects out there, notability No Man Sky, the starting point wasn't a video game but some cool computer technologies. For DU it was dual contouring voxels combined with classic 3D models (the elements). For NMS it was their adaptive procedural generation system. Usually games are designed the other way around: you plan your gameplay systems and then invent, create or reuse computer technologies to implement these systems. So basically the 'game' aspect of DU is not yet fully designed and finished and they're sill iterating based on what their tech can do it. For short: "we have these cool techs, what game can we make with them ?" instead of "let's make this cool game : which techs do we need to do it ?'.
    - the beta is at best an early alpha
    - the alpha was a PoC/tech demo
    - they clearly don't play their own game, at least not like a normal player would (playing with cheat codes like spawning infinite resources/money or instant travel to anywhere doesn't give you the actual "feeling" a normal player get but rather a distorted one. Designing and iterating the game with that distorted feeling is a very bad thing to do. All seasoned game designers know that. Same for metrics/Excel based game design decisions.
    - they don't clearly know what their target audience is.

I think at least 2 more years are required to have a real beta. Doing this in the open with paying customers will not be a good journey.

Because PvP ship is not 1 M gun.

We talking not about some "basic raider" to harass paper haulers that not shooting back (this can be any crap with any gun). But about actual combat against other specialized PvP ships and crews -- something to be expected to see in this asteroid belts (as attack/defence force for organizational mining ops). This kind of ships much more (prohibitively now) expensive, with new industy, cores and elements losses.

Supermega reacted to Xennial in Let's talk state of ores on planets and future of asteroids
This is exactly the imbalance that exists with PvP. I'm not going to volunteer to put my ship at risk to fight some gunboat just sitting in space waiting for a hapless victim. There is no way I can defend such a ship because the gun boat doesn't have to bother allocating resources to entering the atmo , cargo hauling and just packs it with weapons and armor. Now I will grant you that the warp past PvP mechanic is stupidly carebear and prevents any sort of emergent PvP like me needing to bring combat escorts to prevent my armored hauler from being destroyed before it reaches safe harbor.

Right now I hear the "make them come out of warp in unsafe space". Maybe this helps, but what reason do I have to put in that risk? Just to go get some higher tier ore? I dont' 'need' those high tier weapons / engines , they are just a convenience. PvP needs to have a purpose and right now really there is not much is the realm of purpose other then to gank someones ship parts whoopidy do. The flip side is also true that higher tier ores are woefully underutilized in crafting.
