Supermega reacted to CoreVamore in Should we be able to place a voxel without a core attached to it?
perhaps - a core unit makes a construct 'smart' (i.e. Lua and links etc) and constructs with no core unit are just walls/roofs/holes but nothing 'alive'.

    Just a guess

I think this is an awesome list and seeing a Dyson Sphere built in game would be insane.  Even if it doesn't actually work.

Seriously.  We're talking about less then $200 a year.

Indeed, just like Tranquility. For both the ship and the city we are developing and designing modules.
With this the ship can be modified endlessly and made larger if needed, also it compartmentizes the ship in case of anything accident related or attacks.
We plan to deliver the Dockingbay Module to all the space located ports, for now those are 3. For the shuttles to the planets And the Tranquility taxi system there is already a great design by @Captain_Hilts who did a marvelous job! So. There is no design Yet, but there are fractions that are done in the name of modules.

I like this idea, sounds great. Do you have a design in mind for how the ship will look? would love to see it.

Also, I would consider making the ship a space bound ship only. meaning it wouldn't ever land on planet/moons. The reason why is because it takes allot of fuel and power to get something really big off the surface and into orbit, so it really would not make much since to waste most or you're resources just trying to get off the planet, before you even start a long voyage. It seems like It would be better to have smaller ships docked aboard, that can go down to the surface while the ship stays in orbit, maybe docked to a station or something. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thoughts, the ship will be spacebound and we don't have a design quite yet. Probably will be made out of modules.

Not "everyone" says this won't happen. With all the support we've gathered some people obviously think it's worth their time.

It could fail for sure, I'm not denying that but for now everything in DU is a dream. This could very well fail or it could be one of the largest projects in DU.

situation one: people need mass transport, especially to large city's. Single person travel will be expensive and lengthy due to the fuel costs, not to mention if someone gets lost or their ships breaks down. The New Horizon does this on a large scale to minimize the costs for the average player.

situation two: Running out of fuel isn't an issue, We will stock up before every voyage and make sure nothing happens. We aren't stupid and will plan ahead before every voyage.

situation three: Raiding is certainly something to consider, why do you think I'm recruiting security teams and escort ships? I wouldn't do this blindly and its going to take place far after launch.

Besides people that can't dream never achieve anything, wait til after launch  and you might see The New Horizon  doing great things. If you wish to bring this further I invite you to the discord.

Well, let’s state some hard truth as well:

How many orgs are just talking about their grand plans with the game 2 years from release believe that it will go exactly as planned?

How many orgs are expecting their members to perform an exact job they are assigned to do, throwing the rest of the game aspects away?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to build up a mega city and not to get blown up half way into it by another org that forms up on the day of release and looking to just build ship and pvp?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to be a company designing ships, but have absolutely zero infrastructure and no one “feeding” them resources?

how many orgs are signing contracts and treaties and dreaming that the two parties will keep the contract intact for the next two years?

The horizon project might seem absurd, but he’s just dreaming like pretty much every single orgs are doing right now. With the game this far away from release, all talks are dream talks and I don’t see any problem with it

Supermega reacted to CoreVamore in To not see a particular material in build mode
Situation: Lets assume you have an element that is hidden away behind a carbon fibre wall, but you want to move that element up a little.

If the game, while in build mode, could allow you to hide/not view items made of a particular material, would allow the element to be moved, then simply viewing that material again would cover the element as before.

This would save either deleting wall sections, or moving them around.

    Food for thought

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

    I'll get to the point;

    1. The topic has been cleaned due to Offtopic Replies - please stay on topic
    2. Necroposting is a no-no based on the forum rules (Don't do it, if you're not sure about it, read before posting)
    3. Don't try to backseat-moderate necro'd posts (this a bit disrespectful to the moderators and just makes the necro'ing even worse and harder for us mods to clean up afterwards)
    4. Don't Cross-post (this is a form of spam as well - 1 Thread is enough for 1 Topic)
    5. Don't provoke others either. Just use the report system (even if it doesn't seem like the fastest way to resolve an issue rest assure it gets our attention and will get looked into)

That being said, let's now keep on topic: Antigravity Drives (try not to also break the NDA when discussing this)

    Best Regards,

    Meldrik

By their statement "each weapon-system have to be manned", they are indicating that they don't want any weapon-system to be automatic. "Automatic" means working by itself with no direct human control. Let's not assume that this weapon-system will be manually aimed using it's mounted sight, manually fired, and manually loaded similar to Bofors 40mm. That's just World War II!
Let's think of a modern alternative that is manual; an RCWS(Remote Controlled Weapon System) gun with it's own optronic system and an electronic fire control computer system(console and server/interface unit all in one system) that has monitor and joystick. This optical system has no search and tracking system to remove all automatic capabilities, what it will do and is capable of, is send visual information to that FCS (fire control system) console electronically. You will fit the RCWS-gun-system in your ship and you will place the FCS-computer/console inside the control-room of your ship and you will link them together (via the Link tool). Only 1 gun can be linked to 1 computer (that means 1 person will have to operate it).

    RCWS Gun

    GFCS console

Now what do you want the GFCS monitor to display? Something a FLIR camera displays (normal vision, night vision, thermal vision).

Are all of these automatic like a sentry gun? No! It's electronically manual!
Are the guns invinsible? No! Go take out the control-room, it's common sense! If you don't know where the control-room is, go find it and take it out!

Now that is what we call manual and modern at the same time. I don't wanna see World War II or else this game will turn out like Star Wars with it's 70's concepts.

And do not call these guns "RCWS" because that term is trademarked. Think of another name to call these remote-controlled guns.
