CoreVamore got a reaction from FreeklancerX in To not see a particular material in build mode
Situation: Lets assume you have an element that is hidden away behind a carbon fibre wall, but you want to move that element up a little.

If the game, while in build mode, could allow you to hide/not view items made of a particular material, would allow the element to be moved, then simply viewing that material again would cover the element as before.

This would save either deleting wall sections, or moving them around.

Maybe while things a small, maybe not as DU grows.

Keep in mind that emergent game play can, and does, bring out baiting and trolling. So there is a very fine line there.

Lines naturally should be, and are, drawn at rl death threats etc..

All I am saying is that one persons tease could be seen as another persons troll.

Yes and I agree. But just doing a "hide my location and name" checkbox isn't very fun nor engaging gameplay is it? That's why I think it would be better to use different skills, modules and voxels (as explained). Such a system is way more entertaining for everyone

Where are people getting the money to buy gaming computers, but they can't afford a $15 a month subscription fee?

Seriously.  We're talking about less then $200 a year.

    The math doesn't add up.

    Big bad pirate here.

If I'm cruising around in my pirate ship looking for someone to pillage, I'm going to be using stealth myself to get as much information and as close as I can to my target.  If I can be 100% invisible, I'm going to have an easy time following someone from a trade hub back to their base when I call my fellow pirates to do piratey things.

If only ships can be detected, but bases hidden, I can still follow a ship back to its base, to which point I call my fellow pirates to do piratey things.

As Lethys suggested, detection mechanics based on game mechanics would be very interesting.  Learning how to fine tune your base to remain hidden means tradeoffs and planning, which is a good mechanic in my opinion.

You are not 'investing' in anything as you get nothing in return that would allow you to make a profit. You are not a stakeholder in the company or game, do not own rights or shares in the product nor do you have a seat at the table regarding development. You are entitled to access to a game which is in very early stages of development. An analogy would be you are paying money to sit in the audience while a theatre production is being created, watching the process and progress. Your money goes towards the actual creation of the play.

If, after you check out the vision and commitment of NQ to making DU a reality you want to support them in doing so you pledge. making a pledge by paying amount X will get you early access at some stage and a number of perks/benefits. It does not buy you entitlements nor guarantees the game will actually eventually release and be the game you believe it will be.

Overall the amount you pay covers the cost of buying DAC by itself, you basically buy X months playtime upfront and in one payment and get an additional number of perks based on the level you buy in at. That playtime will start getting consumed at some point in the future, at or close to release. Until then you get access to the game in development during the times the developer decides to open the servers..

Frankly, if you are asking the questions you are asking IMO you are not ready to become a supporter for the game by buying into a supporter pack. It's absolutely fine if you choose to wait it out, be around and follow progress 'from the outside'. You can then always just come in once the game goes live.

CoreVamore got a reaction from Alsan Teamaro in Product URL
As multiple product desigms hit the markets with diverse characteristics there may not be enough info built into DU to describe a particular product.

With this in mind I propose a url field that will enable the seller/designer to link to a website/youtube video that describes the product in more detail. (Or to allow embedding of youtube vids into product the description panel)

As I'm not in the pre alpha i dont' know if this is a valid idea or not... but here it is anyway

Well, let’s state some hard truth as well:

How many orgs are just talking about their grand plans with the game 2 years from release believe that it will go exactly as planned?

How many orgs are expecting their members to perform an exact job they are assigned to do, throwing the rest of the game aspects away?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to build up a mega city and not to get blown up half way into it by another org that forms up on the day of release and looking to just build ship and pvp?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to be a company designing ships, but have absolutely zero infrastructure and no one “feeding” them resources?

how many orgs are signing contracts and treaties and dreaming that the two parties will keep the contract intact for the next two years?

The horizon project might seem absurd, but he’s just dreaming like pretty much every single orgs are doing right now. With the game this far away from release, all talks are dream talks and I don’t see any problem with it

Let's say if every single members of the big organisations are active, how many of them are there because their organisation is the biggest and the strongest?
And how many will jump ship after their nation's first defeat in pvp when they realize they won't dominate the universe? ?

From my experience in mmorpgs like Black Desert, which is basically a 100-members-guild based game, 50% of the top organisations split, disband or just disappear within the first three month and the new ones rise, so don't worry if your organisation only has 2 members right now, it only matters three month into the release! ?

CoreVamore got a reaction from Kuritho in Element Socket Attachment Points and Swapable Elements
This suggestion is based on the following:
Builders would like to sell designs that are mainly non modifiable Being able to modularise things like engines, weapons and shields will provide variety in the game - especially in combat Players, who are non-builders, need a way to swap in/out upgraded elements The modules/elements come in a set main group of sizes, in both physical dimensions and capacities. For example small, medium, large. The elements can have various tech levels. For example: Medium Engine Tech level 2 Builders would also need to know the max physical dimensions of each element so that they can design around it.
OK, with that all out of the way what NQ would need to develop some form of Element Socket/Attachment Point. For things like engines that would be fairly trivial, however when it comes to manned weapons it becomes something entirely different. For example, we have things like the motorised rotating turret, as displayed here:

A builder would have to allow for a hole to be incorporated into the hull of their construct. This is where the idea of an attachment socket comes into play. More than likely it would have to be a ring of some kind mainly due to the simple fact that most turrets need to be able to swivel as well as to provide a mini-cockpit for players to be in to man the gun.

Naturally I dont think the builder would have to physically place an attachment point in their construct, however the act of placing any form of turret on the construct automatically places an invisible attachment socket on the hull. So this would be something NQ would have to implement.

You may at this point be asking "How do I, as a non builder, swap my elements?

Firstly, you must have an element in your inventory that is similar to the element you want to swap with - for example, a medium rocket engine. (You might be swapping out a tech 1 version for a tech 3 version).

Then simply right click on the element, select "Swap with" and have a mini list pop up of all the different elements in your inventory that fits that specific attachment point.

Simply select one and the swap is made for you.

So having attachment points/sockets, and the ability to swap out elements for better ones, provides variety and choice for players, as well as extending the usefulness and longevity of vehicle designs.

    Hope this all made sense

    Cheers

Umm I really dont have to suggest anything when NQ has already stated and outlined its territory mechanics on both worlds, moons and asteroids.

Some people equate a PvP zone as "shit Im going to get killed" - nothing could be further from the truth. Most PvP zones will be 'controlled' by one faction or another. Provided you are with that controlling faction that zone can be very peaceful and safe. (I lived in nullsec in Eve for several years to the point that I considered highsec space to be the wild west).

And remember NQ has said on many occasions that they want to reproduce something like what happens in Eve Online, and that is combat oriented everywhere! At least in DU you get large safe zones for the fragile amongst us.

NQ is working on the balance of these safe zones. But when you have entire moons that are classified as Sanctuary Moons I find it hard to believe that anyone thinks DU is all PvP and pew pew!

I think NQ already has the balance right, they just have to decide on the size of the safe zone at the spawn point around the ship, which from memory is a 20km radius zone. And before you tell me thats not big enough remember that here on earth we can pack millions of people into such a space.

So you may ask me if I am a warmonger? Nopes. Im a builder who also knows when to stand up and fight for my turf. (I run a DU design group after all).

I would encourage NQ to keep going down the path its going and for those people that dont have a clue as to whats planned to use the search feature on the top right of the page (As well as look at NQ's youtube vids), to get a more thorough understanding of whats ahead
