After reading the lore(parts 1-5), I think they allude to game mechanics that the devs are hoping for. I could see food and water(or beverages) as being something to help with energy(which might come back on its own) or help you get health back faster. This way you are limited to things like health packs and stim packs. Would make the game more immersive, without making it a requirement.

Im tired of hearing about emergent gameplay concerning DACs, if you want emergent gameplay, how do you justify DACs existance in the game world? Its a real thing to sell, trade that gives you game time to play. Your emergent play should only care about real game items that you use. All of your arguments to promote the stealing of someone elses game play time are completely ridiculous.

I honestly hope they do not go to this play style, and if you guys drop over i wish ypu well in eve where you can do this.

I am sick of seeing this community attack the new members, and i am also sick of you all thinking that your idea is the only way this game should work. Guess what, a lot of people dont want to steal a 12 year olds month of game play, and we think it should be protected from scum bags trying to steal it.

    Hi,

I think, it is way too early to put so much effort into thinking about the payment model.
I think it is safe to say that DU will do everything they can not to shoot themselves in the foot.

Like Neopolitan said, most people I know are jaded when it comes to talk of games like this. Some won't even talk about it, because they feel it isn't worth their time.

My apologies guys, I was half asleep this morning writing those posts. I've been dealing with stuff. Everything about that post should have been the opposite. A 30 km radius planet is way too small, was the point I was wanting to get to. Anywho, sorry again for the half asleep ramblings of a mad man lol.

He answered a few questions that I had, and even gave us a bit more information about the display panels (both in cockpits and in command centers), so I'm very pleased by everything I heard and saw.

It's clear that they still have a bit of work ahead of them before Alpha, underground textures and game mechanics off the top of my head, but it's awesome to see just how far they are now.

Based on what we know so far, I'd be happy to throw money at NQ for their crowdfunding. It just makes me more excited to see what's in store for the months ahead before they really show the game off for the kickstarter.

Yes seems a sure thing that it will be gameplay footage, and that's certainly what I'm looking forward to seeing. I'm about ready to gain insight into something tangible that I can observe and develop a stronger sense of the game.

This will be an exciting next step.

Well the old seafaring pirates of old are long gone. We're not that kind of pirate, and that language is (thankfully) long gone. We're a less rum-strewn bunch.

We're the future or present, as it were, freedom fighters.

See Harlock: Space Pirate for reference as to how we might be in-game.

I totally TOTALLY get the heistation or cautions approach to games these days. So many companies have burned customers it should be against the law (in other industries it is). Even AAA studios are taking advantage of their loyal customers with subersive tactics and lawyer speak to get them out of deliveirng what was sold.

Those who know me know I am as skeptical as skeptical gets, but within reason.

Novaquark and their team are not only comprised of some industry greats, but seriously talented people. They have been extremely transparent with the community and make attempts at every corner to build trust.

And actually, while I am on the topic of that dev post, read all of the dev posts, heck spend a few hours going over the main web page. Lots of cool stuff to see and read. The backstory by Alain Damasio is pretty cool http://www.dualthegame.com/backstory

Great job on the writing! Maybe NCF can be an alliance. We are working on a backstory/info and "advertisement" more or less for the organization. But, one thing we are planning is stealth, and using that for protecting people, when it is needed.

COPS - COALITION OF PIRATES & SMUGGLERS  The arkships landed. We woke anew, scared, unsure. Groups formed, factions aligned. Power corrupted. For all the efforts to save our species, the millenia we traveled, we reverted almost instantly back to that old human nature. Not even extinction could change our habits, our instinct.   We have all been there. Watching and witnessing the mega-corporations metastasize and feed off the livelihood of the less fortunate. Class warfare, poverty, slavery...being forced to work by some clown sitting at the top of his ivory tower barking commands. I’ve had enough of it, most likely so have you. It’s time to break from those chains and live a free life. It ain’t easy, ain’t too much glory, but it’s honest (for the most part) and fair.  We are a coalition, a collaboration,  a consortum, a conspiracy, a communion,  a clan, a crew, a club, a confederation, a confederacy collecting cohorts connected, conjoined, combining efforts to be a free people, free from tyrany, terror and autocrats. We are mostly smugglers making our way, some of us might be pirates but we ain’t all bad. We got a few mercs hanging around (dont let them fool ya, hearts of gold), and I think that gal over there is a mensa architect.        WHAT IT'S LIKE:   Ever want to pilot the Millenium Falcon? Ever dream to have a crew who works together like Firefly? You want to be that solo guy who searches for bounties like Boba Fett and his Slave I? This is how we dream to play and we intend to play this way. However Dual may require efforts from a  larger group. If this is true, we just want to have a system in place so that people can come together to fullfill their visions. We want solo play, but under the safety net of a larger organization.   We want you to fly your own flags. You can join under the COPS name, or create your own organization and fly as an alliance, heck I might be doign the same.
THE BREAKDOWN:   • Enrollment: Some will get invited, some will inquire. If you want to be part of a free alliance just ask.
    • Primary language: English and gibberish.
    • Timezone: Only mega corps keep up with time.
    • Goal:  Solo or co-op gameplay within a larger group. We all like to do our own thing, but somtimes you need to be part of something larger or you will get left behind.
COPS is an organization created and designed to bring together like minded people who prefer to play solo without constraints of typical guild requirements (be here on X day, at Y time to raid Z...ya its tiresome).  We realize people have limited time to play and that real life takes place first. That being said, Dual Universe looks like this might be a game where cooperation and collaberation are keys to success. If we find this to be true, there might be more expected collaborative gamplay required. We don’t want to force anything on anyone, but just ask people to step up if it is required to do so.  In the end it’s not about making a large guild rich, its about making sure your needs are met, our mutal needs are met. We endevor to create an enviroment where co-op game play is actually fun and rewarding.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU:   • Security: Safety in numbers.
    • Community: A network of people to work together with if so desired.
    • Freedom: Free to play your way but with the undertanding that freedom requires effort and work. There will be times we need to work together, its the only way to keep an alliance strong.
    • A Trade network. Not sure how Dual is going to work with trade, but within a group there will be communication lines. We will be able to trade with each other and help keep our alliance strong.
    • Veteran ship builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel ships to ever exist.  Our fleet will impress, this I can promise.
    • Veteran home builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel sci-fi mega structures to exist. Our home world wont look like a cut rate hostel.
    • PVP: Lets face it, even if you only care for PVE, PVP might and will happen at some point. If you intend to fly in a ship, once you are out of the ark safe zone, pvp will happen. We intend to create smart ship designs that will help to ensure pvp victories, but you will need to know how to fly it.
    • PVE: We know some people have no interest in PVP. Hopefully we can get a civilization started with trade, harvesters, crafters etc. It’s good to have folks who specialize in these categories.
    • Exploring: It’s at the heart of Dual Universe, of course we will explore!
    • If i can be done in Dual, we intend on experiencing that content in one way or another.
GOVERNMENT:   Don’t really intend on having some massive over inflated group of power hungry people running the show. I have no interest in that, however there does need to be a head or some form. Castles have kings, homes have breadwinners. Even a pack of wolves looks to their Alpha. I intend on holding the main key of power or have it distributed among a very close group of friends. Those who know me know I fight tooth and nail for the little guy, for honesty and integrity. I have no intent on telling you how to play or what to do...but internal conflicts will occur and those will need to be resolved. We want everyone to be happy and to play together...its the best recipe for success.

If COPS sounds like a style of gamplay that you find appealing, speak to Kiklix or LadyAstrum.

@CaptainTwerkmotor That could be Incorporated into what I was saying. You would build it one way, out of certain materials. Yes, it would work, but not that good.  It would be a Trial and Error type of system. Have you played Empyrion? it has a level system that requires you to mine, craft and build things for experience.

How about this. Instead of logging out in cryotubes/beds, you set them as your log in point. You may not log into the game inside them, but next to them. That way you can log out where ever. On a ship or planet. You would only need one per ship/base or what have you. I think this would have the most benefit for most situations. You wouldn't have to worry about your ragdoll falling through structures, or have to worry about building around you or digging a hole under you. As well as not allowing travel between them, as you would need for it to scan your "DNA" so to speak, so you can spawn there on log in.

BUT, there needs to be things to prevent abuse, like you would need to be logged out for a certain amount of time before it took effect. Also, maybe you can only have a limited number of inventory items on you. Unless its a lost connection type of thing maybe? Also, if you are tagged for combat, maybe you drop most of your inventory if you combat log, or you log into a different, maybe random location. Maybe combat logging is ragdoll?

As soon as I got the idea, the ways to abuse immediately came to mind, lol. So, my idea would HAVE to have ways to prevent abuse.

Your points are well stated, speak of experience, of both yourself and others, and make no assumptions about what is or is not true or possible.  I congratulate you, Cornflakes. This is exactly what I look for in debates.

I concede that most people do play S.E. just slapping components on.  Few people make the jump to actually engineering things.   I see where the disconnect in our views are now by your second and third statements.  You are equating a reactor with an engine.  Though technically this is true it is much harder to make it an equivalent example, due to the relation between power sources and thruster types in Space Engineers.  For instance, If I used batteries on atmospheric thrusters most wouldn't think to draw a parallel at all.  If I use Hydrogen thrusters I don't have an engine at all, just a source of fuel and a throttleable output (which almost no one uses  ) to thrusters.  If I make a gravity drive once again it becomes another fuel source.  The ability to draw parallels is muddled even further when designing mixed systems. The gravity drive is probably the closest you could come when drawing comparisons to FTD's engine design stage.  It has the same balancing act when it comes to efficiency, power, and size.  (I do concede most people design only with acceleration in mind) Your fifth point leaves me wondering, though.  Your statement pretty much contradicts itself.  I would say to accomplish what you want in Space Engineers requires as much thinking as you NEED.  (This was my general gripe about OmnipotentVoids blanket statements.)  The people who make great, complicated, machines that work in Space Engineers are the artisans that fit on one end of a spectrum of skill, and their work deserves more than just being labeled as an exceptional "case". Your last two points make for an interesting argument.  On the one hand, there is nothing wrong with making a game simpler and more accessible to a larger player base.  On the other, If the goal is to make a certain kind of game and then you change it to something that MIGHT be more popular?  Er.  I think this might create more problems than it resolves.  Is it the multiblock system easier?  Certainly.  Will it work for what the game devs WANT you to be able to do in DU?  Hmmm...   ~shake, shake, shake~   The simple truth is we don't know enough about what the devs want to answer that question yet.  It could turn out that a multiblock system is exactly what's needed for this game.  Or every pro about a multiblock system might turn into a con because the of direction the game goes.  We are kinda in the wind right now.  What I do know is that a well done single block system can do everything a multiblock system one can.  It might require skill sets not found in your average player but it can be done.  And I say this with the full knowledge that even single blocks systems like Space Engineers don't always cover the things you want them to.  But that's what updates are for.....  And modding.  Definitely modding.
