  1. Nice to officially meet you Tnecniw! I'm sure there is at least one person on these forums who can make images for signatures. If you can find 'em, see if they can make something for ya!
  2. Welcome! I too am garbage (when it comes to building ships). So I will be focusing on structures and PR for my organization.
  3. Welcome Nuppzi! I feel the same way. I've been searching for a game like this since I started watching SAO and Log Horizon!
  4. Welcome to the DU forums! I've played about 60 hrs in SE, but my buddy has played a ton of it, and we too are excited for it!
  5. I was actually wondering this as well. I originally hadn't thought about any type of "ship" are vehicle besides space ships(whether it be personal or large), but after this thread I am thinking about more ships and vehicles for planetary use.
  6. If I found dinosaurs in your ship, I would raid you like I raid in ark. Shoot them from afar, or lure them out. But realistically, if we were fighting, I would rather just utterly destroy your ship rather than raid it. I am fine with there being animals in the game, especially if you can ride them. But, I have played Ark since release. So, flying around in space or driving a vehicle around would, for me, be preferable.
  7. You will be able to claim territory plot on planets. There is talk of artifacts that can be found to make areas safe/protected zones that they are calling "arkified zones". I believe they can be used on planets or in space. Check out this dev blog for what they are planning: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/07/24/territory-control/#more-468
  8. With the way it sounds that the game is being made, this will be how it is. Allowing controls for ships to be set up by the player. Like yamamushi said, as long as there are keymapping abilities, everyone will be able to have the controls they want.
  9. I personally can't wait for NMS, but, it will be hard for me to play very long. Especially if it will take me literal days or weeks to find them.
  10. No Man's Sky will die because, although its multiplayer, you don't spawn close to anyone. At least anyone you want to be near.
  11. As long as it doesn't end up like Starforge, and becomes a better version of Starmade, I will love it. I don't think it would ever be like Ark in space. There hasn't been anything hardly even said about there being creatures on these generated planets. But, it would be cool to be able to ride some alien animals.... for about 5 minutes, then it would be, wtf am I doing?!? I have space ships!
  12. Are you telling me I should also be doing my business at certain times? pls, no. haha XD
  13. Have you heard or MREs? Something equivalent would be possible. As for something to grow in space? I've heard hydroponics make things a little easier to grow, manage, and manipulate(like its shape).
  14. That's why I'm personally hoping it isn't a requirement. If it is, well I guess I would have to deal with it. I would probably just stock up on the cheapest food for long journeys.
  15. Stellaris has these "space whales" that fly around aimlessly. They actually "eat" the gas from gas giants. I think something similar that you would build onto them would be cool. Then you could fly them through a gas giant before a long trip. Not sure if this mentioned already, but.... This really makes me think of the ship from Lexx. It was technically a living ship. It would, if I remember correctly, supply food and water for the passengers. Picture to follow......
  16. After reading the lore(parts 1-5), I think they allude to game mechanics that the devs are hoping for. I could see food and water(or beverages) as being something to help with energy(which might come back on its own) or help you get health back faster. This way you are limited to things like health packs and stim packs. Would make the game more immersive, without making it a requirement.
  17. I'm not against MODs. We would have to wait and see what the game will entail before pushing the issue of player made items being added to the game before release. If the game has as much customization as is being hoped for, then we wouldn't need MODs. That is my hope for DU.
  18. These are all good things to think about, and there will be time in game to set things up before we get these large fleets, IMO. Check out these dev blogs: This one on rights and duties distribution: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/05/21/rights-duties-management-system/#more-458 This one on Building an Organization: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/03/20/organizations-build-your-corporation-faction-nation-or-empire/#more-437 And, this one one on multiplayer ship crews: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/01/30/multiplayer-ship-crew/#more-391 Basically, the Captains would need to be able to make decisions to some degree. While extreme situations would require them reporting to their Admiral. The easiest way I see getting around the communication issue is for people to be in something like TeamSpeak or the like! With the coding available in game, I feel that one ship could have information being streamed to a console that the Admiral could access. Allowing him to check on ships without having to wait on comms. -TrihXeen
  19. Do you have any information on how scripting works in its entirety? I have heard of people using scripts from games I've played, but I've never been told(or looked up) how it works. ** I should state this is for educational purposes, I don't plan on using said info. I have dreamed of a game like this, and would't do anything to take away from it! ** Based off this example, maybe constructs can only be placed by the player. As well as only being able to place things at a certain pace, as if it had a cool down timer. This would also block out macros, but I don't use macros. I like being able to say "Yea I slaved for that"! haha I agree that all "save data" should be server side. games like DayZ do this. The only thing saved client side is the name and a 3D model of you with your gear.
  20. - While there could be some hidden reasons, do you consider the fact to find blueprints by this manner ok? or do you find it a bit "too convenient" (lore-wise)? Not at all. To me, the aliens noticed Sohan's drive to get what he needs. Even knowing the risks. As well as seeing something he made himself, of his own creativeness. As well as showing them that he is curious and willing to figure out a mystery. I feel that if someone made something unique, that isn't made to be sold, and comes from their heart, like a piece of art, that it should be noticed. As well as showing these aliens that you aren't about money and power, after all, that statue would have been a waste of resources. - For the time being, items made in kyrium are meant to be indestructible. Is it fine from your point of view? or do you think this could be an issue? I could see core pieces of ships, like engines and computer systems being at least partially if not completely made of kyrium. It would be a never ending battle if two warring factions had everything made of kyrium. Maybe, its only obtainable as pre-made objects from said alien finds. - We want to make rewards earned this way very special and unique (not something that you can mine or buy to a NPC). Do you have some other ideas on the subject? I like the puzzles idea. Especially the one in the story where Sohan blasted sand at the beach monolith and so forth. I REALLY like puzzles like this that don't even seem like they were meant as puzzles until someone tries something out on a whim. I could imagine an example where players are given a puzzle, and it states "There are three ways to complete this puzzle". When, in fact, there are actually, say, 20 ways to complete it. If people use the known ways to complete it, they get an "above average" prize. When someone finds a new way to complete it, they could get a really rare item, and each time after that the prize could be only slightly more than average type of prize. This, IMO, would reward those who are being intuitive and think outside the box. Also, a few things that are not consistency issues in the Lore (consider it "works as intended" ): - Kyrium is a strange matter from which arkships are partly made of. - How to make Kyrium is a complete mystery: No colonist have any memory about the fabrication process of this material. - Kyrium is obviously found on Alioth and there's no way humans were here before the Arkship landing. *This is about to get dark* What if kyrium is, for example, Tungsten that was imbued(in some non magical way) with souls of sorts? Human, alien, or animal. This would explain why it shows you getting younger and older while looking at it. It would also explain why no one has any knowledge of how to make it. I like putting twists on things to show a darker side to stories. This is pretty dark, but it also shows the sacrifices that were made to save humanity. It could be farther said that humanity did a rough work of making it, since it was recently discovered before the Arkships were made. Also, that the aliens had refined the process and could have made copies of themselves into the material, by making it. Allowing them to become, to some extent, immortal. But limits them to the knowledge they had, without the ability to learn new things or leave the planet. Its hard to go this path without getting into magical types of things, which I know DU wont have. Maybe its part of a religious practice that humans had gained knowledge of before the Arkships were made. Overall, I love this story and the way it was written is just fantastic. I can't wait for any other types of stories that might be released by Alain Damasio. -TrihXeen P.S. does Alain Damasio have any other stories?
  21. Hello! and welcome to the DU forums, as well as the community!
  22. I like this idea. I know that SethBling and CaptainSparkles did this thing with verizon in Minecraft to be able to browse the internet, and make "calls". It was obviously blocky, but something with similar coding should work. I feel like I've seen something similar in another game that wasn't listed. I may try to figure that out and come back here if I can remember. EDIT1: I should also mention that I feel this might be possible with in game coding. If anyone with prior coding knowledge could input on the possiblity, with out it being coded into the core game.
  23. I don't see the point in creating "mods" other than aesthetics that aren't in the game(I only say this because we don't know the extent of customization in the game at this moment). From what I have read, the coding you would have to do for a mod, is doable in game. So there would be no point in making an add-on. Honestly, I believe that a single player version of the game would just completely obliterate any storage room you have on your computer unless you have a bunch of terabyte drives, like miniature database amount of space. As well as a system that can handle not only your movement and location, but keeping track of everything that you render in, do the math for how much a planet has rotated and moved around its sun, while it wasn't rendered in. I could see the servers this game running on would be dual cpu slot boards that have 128 gigs of ram if not more. All in all, the idea of the game is it being community driven. Even if they did release a single player that was limited to one solar system, that could potentially take thousands of people away from the MMO experience. It's no fun being the only person left alive in the universe, trust me.
  24. Welcome to the DU forums! I too am excited about this game. Almost to the point that, if I was offered it, I would put myself into a medically induced coma, haha. But, then I would miss out on this community being built, so I'll just wait.
  25. Well, if you are wanting to push your creativeness, and get some silly names, do like my friend and myself do. Grab something off your desk or near you. For him it was TUMS. Since TUMS are supposed to help you with heartburn and what not, I said TUMS Galactic Hospice. Make a game out of it, and you might surprise yourself.
