  1. Based on my own views and what others have said it's clear that guilds and groups are exactly as useful as your game makes them. Personally I would be happy with a game I could never beat. A game world that scaled in difficulty essentially up to "impossible" so that all anyone can ever do is gauge how far they get before they die. Almost like an old arcade scoreboard, where the groups and heroes who get the furthest earn bragging rights. In such a game having guilds and groups would be essential.
  2. Well I'd say we need someone doing that job, as there's a spambot running rampant on the forum right now.
  3. Could there be some color customization? Just tweaking various colors on existing textures? Maybe paints? I agree with PetdCat that diversity goes a long way, even if it's small things. Also, perhaps full custom texture palettes are out of the question, but what about single use ship decals or group (clan/organization) insignias or logos? You could always set the maximum decal size to something small like 32x32 to prevent the majority of abuse cases, since graphic images won't show up well, and the few that do manage to fit something offensive in there will be fewer in number and could be reported by players. I played an MMO that allowed uploading of a guild icon that would display next to every players name, I believe the maximum size was 10x10. But even something that tiny can still make the ship/group/team feel much more personal than selecting from a fixed pool of them in game. Another possibility is requiring players to purchase the decals in-game. Say they upload the "design", but they have to pay an NPC to get it printed onto their ship, or whatever. That way people would be even less likely to try and get something offensive in there since they will be losing money when it gets deleted.
  4. Doesn't it defeat some of the purpose of its use for immersion if it has to be limited to a certain group of your choosing? and as someone else pointed out, people would just resort to alternative means of voice communication, like mumble or teamspeak, if they were already going to group together in-game they might as well just do that and not have to worry about distance between each other
  5. Hello everyone, I found this game a while ago by searching for upcoming games using the Unreal Engine 4, and I have to say that I have not been this excited for an MMO in a long time. The potential for immersion seems extremely high with the voxels and customizability. I also like that the the developers seem skeptical about going free-to-play. While there is nothing wrong with the mere fact of being free, it's often the way in which it is implemented, through microtransactions and cash shops, which in my opinion only lowers immersion and takes away some of the meaningfulness of the virtual world. As for me, I am a Linux gamer. I know there is no Linux version planned for Dual Universe yet, but that is why I was so happy to see they are using the UE4 engine since the developers of UE4 have expressed their intent to make building multiplatform games as effortless as possible. So I will just cross my fingers and hope for the best.
