    Hi everyone!

Here is more information about the Gamescom MeetUp 2019 (and we need some from your side too )

If you plan to join us at the Gamescom MeetUp 2019 in Cologne (Germany) on Wednesday, August 21st in the evening, please complete the form below.
We need to make sure to book enough seats for the members of the Community in advance.
You have until Sunday, August 17th to register in the form.
Please register as soon as possible as we can't guarantee to have a booked seat for everyone who will register after this day.
In order to make your booked seat valid, you will need to have a Dual Universe account beforehand.

Like last year, we are organizing a MeetUp in Cologne (Germany) during the event of the Gamescom.
It will be an opportunity to meet JC and several members of the Novaquark team to discuss about Dual Universe!
Please indicate which evening you will be available

The poll will close next Tuesday, June 11th, as we have to book the restaurant quickly.

(More info about the event coming soon )

SneakySnake reacted to Sybily in Camera elements that can link to screens
Perhaps people could create security cameras throughout their base (or large space station) and can monitor them from a control room. This might add an interesting twist to PvP.

Another use case would be for large ships that would otherwise be difficult to land or maneuver through structures or or cities (though a 3rd person view might mitigate this point). Or perhaps to allow a ship captain to better orchestrate the crew on-board.

I'm envisioning a control room like in sci-fi movies that have dozens of monitors, each of which correspond to different cameras.

I'm not sure what technical hurdles would be to achieve this, but the cameras could be a low frame rate and low resolution. For cameras near the player, i would imagine that the image can be rendered on client side (I don't think trusting the client for this would be an issue since its the client viewing the images in the first place). Cameras at a distance from the player would have to render the images server side when the player approaches the monitor I would think. I can't say what the performance considerations would be for that but perhaps long distance cameras would have a hefty cost to operate, so as to artificially reduce the amount players make, thus less work for the server.
Of coarse I could be speaking out of my a** in regards to the implementation details but those are just my thoughts. So I'll leave it up to the Dev Team

    Dear DUdes and DUdettes,

What a year for the Novaquark team and Dual Universe! We're now in Alpha 1 and this milestone was reached thanks to your continuous and incredible support... Our hard work allowed us to deliver a new version of a game that will continue to evolve during 2019 (and beyond). We count on you to help us build the best possible next-gen MMO

The road ahead to completion is still long but after such effort, it's now time for us to have some rest and to spend more time with our friends and families. Expect minimum presence from us until the beginning of January. The Winter Holiday Test and our Shipbuilding Contest are our special treats for you! We hope you'll enjoy them.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for everything! Happy Holidays!

    Dear Alpha Testers,

Today we have an awesome surprise to announce for the Winter Holidays!
The test next week won’t last 48h as usual. It won’t last 72h either, nor 1 week. Instead, we plan to open the Server for over two entire weeks!

Starting on Thursday, December 20th, 14:00 UTC, testing will last until Monday, January 7th, 14:00 UTC. However, while we will do our best to ensure the best server uptime possible, please keep in mind the following things:

As the Winter Holidays are approaching, Novaquark will be short staffed. Expect limited support during the Winter Holidays (starting Friday, December 21st).
All Kickstarter Backers who have previously created their Dual Universe account now have access to the game. If you haven’t created your Dual Universe account and contacted our Customer Support (support@novaquark.com) before Wednesday, December 19th, you won’t gain access to the game before the end of the year due to the aforementioned limited support. In such case, you will gain access early 2019.
We are only in Alpha and this is the first test of this duration we are scheduling with all Alpha testers. Server downtime and/or server reboots should be expected. In the off chance that  a significant and/or recurring technical issue occurs during the test, its duration may be shortened.
“Garbage Collection” of abandoned Constructs/wrecks will occur after a certain period of time. As this is the first test to closely resemble a 24/7 server uptime,  we are enacting a set of basic rules regarding the cleanup of unused Constructs that may further change and evolve through future development.
    What are these rules?

Constructs matching all the following criteria will be deleted regularly:
No customized name. Made on the UEF Hovercraft Blueprint basis (even tweaked afterwards) Not used during the last 24 hours. Staying on any Market Hub parking lot.
In other words, if you’re keen to keep your first Construct and you’ll be offline for more than 48 hours during the test, just rename it and the Construct will stay safe.

We hope you’ll enjoy this holiday surprise and we wish all of you the best!

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team

I figured since an upcoming AMA was mentioned in the video that was released yesterday, I thought it would be useful to start a thread to collect questions people have for JC about Alpha, the roadmap, etc.

I suppose I'll start by listing a few questions I have...

The roadmap doesn't make any mention of server uptime. When can we expect the servers to be up for extended periods of time? (24/7 even) Is this something that we can expect during a specific phase of Alpha? Is the NDA firm for all of Alpha, or is there a possibility that the NDA may be lifted before Beta starts? Can we expect server uptime during the winter holiday season this year?   Is there a clue of sorts hidden in one of the videos that were recently published?  Where can we get one of those sweet Dual Universe jackets?

SneakySnake reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in r0.10 and beyond: improvements not related to gameplay mechanics
    Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, we’ve discussed about the major content coming in the r0.10 build planned for the month of May. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find the DevBlog article here on our website!

However, we want to give you a little more information about what’s coming beyond and not related to gameplay mechanics. For the r0.11, you can expect considerable voxel loading improvements on loading speed as well as on frame rate. The new character models you may have seen on the Social Media will also be implemented in the r0.11 with new basic - and more realistic - movement animations.

However, you won’t see the scanning animations we published in January 2017, at least not now, and not under this form. These animations were made at a time where we didn’t have a nearly final version of the 3D Character model. Moreover, the middleware we used at that time for UI isn’t the same that we are currently using now. For all these reasons, these animations and FX need a lot of reworking.

We also plan to implement a setting parameter that will enable players to customize the maximum distance where the voxels are loaded, to let you find the best compromise between voxel display precision and playable frame rate, depending of your PC config specs. This will give opportunities to make “high definition” sceneries like the recent saturday screenshots we’ve released in the past few weeks. We can’t give you (yet) a clear ETA for this feature, but it’s definitely coming!

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark team

In-game AMA event with JC: when and where.
It will take place at 14:15 UTC (the server will open at 14:00 UTC as planned) and may last up to 1 hour. We will give the in-game coordinates where it takes place. You will also be able to use the teleporter near the Tutorial area to go where the AMA will take place. The questions will have to be posted in a special chat channel "AMA" (no question posted in the general chat will be taken into account). Once in-game, to join the channel "AMA", use the command: /join AMA As there is chance you will be many to have questions, please don't flood the channel with more questions before JC had the time to answer the first ones.
Rewards for the Outpost Building contest when a group of players is involved
It will be possible to build an Outpost with friends. However, the limit is set at 10 players per Outpost. It won't be possible to participate to several Outposts submitted for the contest: if you are registered as participant for several Outposts, you won't be eligible for any reward. The owner of the Outpost (the person who deployed the Core Unit of the Outpost and only her) will get the reward mentioned in the first post of the topic. Other players participating to this Outpost will get 1 DAC as a reward, if the Outpost is among the three winning ones. It's up to the owner of the Outpost to list all his friends participating to his Outpost. The list must be sent to our customer support at community@novaquark.com to be validated.

    Dear Pre-Alpha testers,
Two things are coming for the playtest, Saturday February 3rd!

    Outpost Building Contest

Now that we have implemented a (basic) version of the Blueprint feature, we are planning to organize a few contests in the coming months. To celebrate the implementation of new Elements (decorative for the time being), the first contest will start on Saturday, February 3rd. Show your builder skills by creating an outpost! It can be underground or in the sky, but the construct shouldn’t be a vehicle.

    The goal:

Building the most kickass outpost during the next playtests.

    The time frame:

The event starts at 2.00 pm UTC on Saturday, February 3rd.
It ends at 11.00 pm UTC on Saturday, March 10th.
(You will have 2 Saturdays and 4 Fridays of playtests to make it)

    The prizes:

    1st place:
    - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post
    - 3 Beta Keys (to share with your friends)
    - 3 DACs

    2nd place:
    - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post
    - 2 Beta Keys (to share with your friends)
    - 2 DACs

    3rd place:
    - The outpost will be showcased in an upcoming Blog post
    - 1 Beta Key (to share with a friend)
    - 1 DAC

    Criteria selection list:

The winners will be selected by a jury formed with the Novaquark staff.
We will take into account the following criteria:
The outpost must be a static construct. The outpost must be made with only one construct. The outpost must have a (serious) Sci-Fi vibe. The outpost should be good looking and creative. The outpost shouldn’t represent a copyrighted asset from another Sci-Fi universe.
AMA (Ask Me Anything) In-game Event

On Saturday, February 3rd, JC Baillie will be connected in-game and will answer your questions!
We will give your further information on the topic in the coming days.

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark team.

    Hello,

I saw this game in less than a week.
Before, I felt Star Citizen will be great, but Dual Universe ... wow, it has much more to offer in terms of gameplay and what we can do.

We can do almost everything. And if we don't want to do something such as building ships, we can directly buy one from an other player.
And we can also program in the game (autopilot, security system, ... maybe another game as usual with this kind of feature)

I find it fantastic. It make me want to play it now. But I have to wait.

I havn't purchased anything yet, but I will surely pledge in a near future (when available).

Some large org kills your members constantly? Move to another planet or try to make their lives as hard as possible

Some players run the market and install a monopol there in certain goods because of their large backbone? Get their supply lines or move to another product

Welcome to the 3D Preview Suite.
This is a only a short introduction for you guys - have fun!

What is this "3D Preview Suite" ?
We developed this suite to simulate different ship designs - you can look at the ship from outside but can also go inside and inspect every corner of the craft!

    Why we are doing this?
We only do this for one reason : we want to help the community. Our suite hopefully inspires them to grand designs and give them an idea how to design their next ship.

    The software we use :
We utilize the magnificent, though old and rusty, power of "Blender Game Engine" which's totally sufficient for this program.

For the community, from the community
We will keep this thread up to date. As soon as there is a new update - you will know first if you follow this thread!

SneakySnake reacted to NQ-Nunc in Volunteer Community Moderator Program - Applications are now OPEN
As any community grows, the need for more eyes looking out for those who aren’t participating in the spirit of the community or following our community rules grows, too. Earlier this year we began a program that called upon community members to help with this task. Unfortunately, at the time our forum wasn’t quite able to accommodate the things we had in mind and we had to suspend the program. Some upgrades and a little rethinking later and we’re now able to unveil our new Community Volunteer Moderator Program (CVMP).

We are looking for three to five community members to help us with keeping an eye on the forums to make sure we continue to have one of the most helpful and inviting communities possible. This isn’t an opportunity for those who feel this is a chance to finally be recognized for your contributions because all volunteer moderators will be issued and new forum name to use only when performing their moderation duties. You also won’t be able to tell anyone you’ve been chosen. All community volunteer moderators must remain anonymous. This opportunity is for those who wish to help the Community Team maintain our high standards for an inviting, helpful, and respectful community.

If you think this is something you’re interested in and you can be fair and impartial in your actions in the role of a community moderator, then you should apply. Before you do, you should know we have the following expectations and criteria:

    Requirements and Expectations
Must have a clean community record. No warnings, infractions, etc. For at least the previous six months. No suspensions or bans. Posting history shows a helpful, constructive and respectful posting pattern. Apply the community rules in a fair and impartial manner to all members. You understand and accept that this role Is purely voluntary and carries no compensation or other consideration – financial or otherwise. Willing to be and remain anonymous. Ability to serve in this role for at least 6 months. Read and write fluent English. French, German, or Russian written fluency a very big plus.
You should also be comfortable with all the things a volunteer moderator will be asked to do. A Volunteer Community Moderator will have access to tools and forum functions that will allow them to take a variety of actions.

    Community Volunteer Moderators Can
Move threads to the correct areas. Hide threads and posts they feel are inappropriate until they can be reviewed by the Community Team. Merge multiple threads on the same topic into a single thread. Approve posts by new members (required for first-time posts). Bring urgent matters to the direct attention of the Community Team.
    Community Volunteer Moderators Cannot
Delete any thread or post. Edit the text of any post. Suspend any account for any reason.
Still with us? Ready to tell us how great you’d be at this? Excellent!  We’ll need you to send us a little information so we can get to know you.
Forum name Real name Country you currently live in (if in the US, please list your State) Specific days and hours you are available (please include time zone) Languages you speak/write fluently A few words explaining why you feel we should consider you for a volunteer moderator position. Please keep this to less than 200 words.
Once we’ve collected your applications the Community Team, and other members of the Novaquark staff, will review your information and reach out to those we feel would be a good fit. Those individuals will then need to pass one more round of questions before being selected.
If you don’t hear from us, please don’t take offense. We expect to hear from many outstanding candidates. With only a small number of slots to fill not everyone will be chosen.

We'll be taking applications starting today, Thursday, December 7 until Friday, December 15, 2017, at 11:59 PM US Pacific (California) time.
Please submit your application to the following email address: community at novaquark dot com.

    FAQS

What do you look for in a moderator?
We’re looking for people who have shown they are helpful, well spoken, and welcoming. We expect moderators will be discrete, honest, and always have the best interests of the community along with a healthy dose of fairness and common sense guiding their decisions.

How does my backer status affect my chances of becoming a mod?
Simply put; it doesn’t. Your backer status, or lack thereof for that matter, does not factor into our decision. We are looking only at post histories, past behavior, and your application and follow up questions.

How long will a Community Volunteer Moderator have their position?
CVMs do not have a fixed term of service; however, we will do regular checkups with them every three to six months. This is to ensure they are still able and willing to continue with the tasks assigned. Of course, we reserve the right to remove any CVM we feel is not acting in a manner consistent with our policies and the community and moderator guidelines at any time and at our sole discretion.

What happens if a volunteer mod abuses their position?
We have a set of rules and guidelines for our volunteers to follow. They are publicly posted and if we find a volunteer is not abiding by those rules (both the letter and the spirit behind them) then the community team may choose to remove them from their position. Serious abuse or misuse of their role may result in additional actions if deemed warranted.

Can regular community members see the moderator’s rules?
Yes. The rules for moderators are publicly posted here:

SneakySnake reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Pre-Alpha FAQ and Rules
    Hi everyone,

Many of you have asked for more information and clarification about the Pre-Alpha.
To make things a bit easier for everyone we’ve compiled our answers into a this FAQ.

Who will have access to the Pre-Alpha?

All backers with a Gold Founder status (or above), the members of the ATV group,  a small vetted “Friends & Family” group, and the Novaquark staff.

When exactly will the Pre-Alpha be accessible?

The first session of the Pre-Alpha will take place Saturday 30th of September:
    - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time).
    - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time).
    - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST (Los Angeles Time).

We will also have a “trial run” on Saturday September 23rd for the ATV group. This will enable us to run some tests with a smaller (100 players, all under NDA) group of real players before scaling up our efforts for the Pre-Alpha one week later.

The Trial Run (ATV group ONLY)  will take place Saturday, September 23rd:
    - from 3.00 pm to 12.00pm (Midnight) CEST (Paris Time).
    - from 9.00 am to 6.00pm EST (NYC Time).
    - from 6.00 am to 3.00pm PST. (Los Angeles Time).

Additional Pre-Alpha times and dates will depend on the results of these initial sessions. Between these sessions , the development team will improve the game according to the feedback and bug reports submitted during the last session. We will try to give access on a regular basis going forward, but please understand we are looking at these as tests and we do not intend to have the server available on a 24/7 basis yet.

How will I know when and where to download the Pre-Alpha Client?

If you are among those who have access to the Pre-Alpha,  we will send an email to the address linked to your Dual Universe account. Instructions for downloading the client will be provided. You will need to be logged into your Dual Universe account to download the Pre-Alpha client. Before you can download the client you will need to agree to and accept the EULA and NDA (which may be part of the EULA). Please note: Downloading and using the client means you have explicitly accepted the EULA and NDA.

Can I tell people I am in the Pre-Alpha?

Unlike many NDAs, you won’t have to “hide” the fact that you are part of the Pre-Alpha Tester group. The reason is simple: it will already be publicly displayed on the forum and the Community Portal because of your Backer status (Gold and above) or the ATV membership mention.

Can I share screenshots and videos from the Pre-Alpha?

Pre-Alpha testers can make screenshots and videos, with two conditions:

No screenshots or videos may be posted prior to the NDA drop. This means you can make and save videos and screenshots for sharing, but may not post them until Novaquark officially announces the NDA has been dropped. While sharing screenshots and videos with people outside the Pre-Alpha test group is strictly forbidden, we also strongly discourage any sharing between Pre-Alpha testers during the NDA: unless you are 100% sure that those with whom you share screenshots and videos are trustworthy, don't share anything. The reason: if a leak occurs, you will be held responsible for it.
All videos and screenshots must retain the “Pre-Alpha” watermark. This is to make it clear to anyone viewing your content that these assets were created using a very early, non-final version of the game.  This is important as we do not want Pre-Alpha footage and images to be confused with later Alpha, Beta, and Release versions of the game.  Imagine someone coming across Pre-Alpha footage several years from now and making decisions based on what they are seeing because they think it’s final, representative footage, and not test footage. Obviously, we want to avoid this kind of confusion.
Failure to respect these conditions may be interpreted by Novaquark as an intent to damage the reputation of the game and the company (with any and all consequences that may follow), depending of the situation.

If you feel you have captured footage or images that have a very positive value (like tutorials) and should be shared before the NDA is dropped, you can contact a member of the Novaquark staff by submitting a request on the upcoming Customer Support portal or by sending a private message on the forum to one of the CMs: Nomad, Nunc or Nyzaltar). We will then submit the footage or the screenshots for approval to the upper management. However, if the answer is negative, please respect it.

What about the NDA regarding discussions of the Pre-Alpha?

Any and all discussions of the Pre-Alpha must take place in the Pre-Alpha area of the forums. This area will be available only to those members of the community who are taking part in the Pre-Alpha. Everything posted in this section will be under NDA. To help people recognize when they are reading or replying to a topic in a section under NDA, the background color will be different from the public forum sections.

As we know the forum is not always the best way to discuss, especially in real time, we are currently in discussion to let the community have a Discord server dedicated to the Pre-Alpha. Moderators of this Discord will work closely with Novaquark staff to ensure that only Pre-Alpha testers will have access to it. Of course, the NDA will apply also on this Discord channel.

    How will bug reporting work?

While the dedicated Pre-Alpha forum section will be the place to give feedback on the Pre-Alpha and discuss with other Pre-Alpha testers, we also plan to open a Customer Support portal where all Pre-Alpha testers will be able to report any bugs or technical difficulties they encounter in-game or to while launching the game. To be able to see the existing topics, post new ones or reply to some, you will need to log in on this portal with your Dual Universe account that has access to the Pre-Alpha. As long as the NDA is in effect, no discussion there should be made public.

What about the NDA and adding content to the Community Wiki?

No information related to the Pre-Alpha can be added to the Wiki until the NDA is lifted.  You may prepare texts and assets offline and hold on to them until the NDA is lifted, but absolutely nothing should be posted to the Wiki until such time. The reasons are obvious: this would be one massive leak and some of this information will likely change during the Pre-Alpha.

What happens if I violates these, or any other provisions, of the NDA?

Violating the NDA will mean your immediate expulsion from the Pre-Alpha and you will be banned from the Alpha and Closed Beta tests. There may be additional consequences depending on the severity and nature of the violation.

What are the specs required to play Dual Universe in Pre-Alpha?

Please keep in mind that the following configuration is based on the fact that a Pre-Alpha or Alpha version of a game is not fully optimized. These may mean the specs stated here higher than may be required at launch. These specs only apply to the Pre-Alpha and should be considered as being subject to change as the game approaches a final Release version.
