Despite what NQ would like, people want to be self sufficient. So if a stable source of T2 is unavailable for most, they will use T1 instead regardless of price.

hdparm reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Waiting for over 14 days on a STU.
    Hi evereyone,

We deeply apologize for the wait regarding the missing Sanctuary Territory Units (and other in-game expected backer rewards).

As you may have noticed the fix has been deployed last Wednesday and should have solved the issue for the most part. The only ones who should be currently missing a Sanctuary Territory Unit are the Contributor Backers. We hope to fix this last part next week, if everything goes well.

However, please bear in mind the Contributor Pack did NOT originally contain a Sanctuary Territory Unit.
The reason why we are going to give 1 Sanctuary Territory Unit to every Contributor Backer is to make it fair for everyone:

In an old communication, we promised that Kickstarter Backers will get automatically some of the Supporter Pack rewards from an equal level (Silver Founders  gets some Contributor rewards, Gold Founders get some Sponsor rewards, Sapphire Founders - and above - get some Patron rewards). In that communication, a mistake was made in promising a Sanctuary Territory Unit to Silver Founders, while Sanctuary Territory Units were only included in Sponsor and Patron packs, not the Contributor one. As the mistake was on our side, we decided to proceed. However, as Silver Founders are supposed to be on the same tier as Contributor Supporters, this situation seemed to us unfair towards the Contributor Supporters. That's why we decided (and mentioned in our previous communication) that Contributor Supporters will get a STU as well. When this decision was taken, the fix that has been deployed last Wednesday was already in preparation, and adding that in the fix at the last minute would have a risk to make a mess. That's why it was decided to proceed with a separate fix for this specific category of players.

    Last but not least:
If after the fix from Wednesday, you are still missing a STU (or another expected in-game rewards) and you are not in the case of waiting a STU for being a Contributor Supporter, then please contact our Customer Support by submitting a ticket mentioning that you're not in that specific category of players and you have checked your inventory after the fix. To contact our Customer Support team, you can do it from this page.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

hdparm reacted to Anderson Williams in PVP Changes, Hi NQ its me again :)
So its launch, some of us have played since beta, since even Alpha and the Meta has changed extensively over time. However as the meta changes sometimes it gets better and it gets worse. So far the changes has gotten better and better but there are some glaring issues right now that kinda ruin any kind of variety.

    1. Cannons are just beyond the best, there is almost no reason to use any other weapon in the game. We have tried Railguns, Lasers are meh and missiles have no point. With no ability to truely hold a ship in place, cannon boats can just orbit a target (with alittle help from a script :p) and kill you.

    2. Cross Section tanking is not broken, but needs a counter. There is nothing currently that allows you to truly cross section tank, like just doesn't exist. Stasis is supposed to be the counter, but by stopping 'max speed' vs 'overall speed', you can just fly away. It doesn't effect the sig ships as much as it should. Its a good start, but it really needs to effect overall speed, not the max.

    3. How to fix?
     -  The Rock paper scissors concept, which like Eve, is awesome, but only if a counter can actually be utilized and presently it cant. Cannons and Cross section are basically the only viable pvp option, which is painful. There should be variation, Cannons don't need a nerf persay, but some way to level the playing field.
    a. Change stasis to impact either just overall movement, it can apply more and more overtime, and it needs longer range. 25km in a game where we can fight at almost 400km is absurd. So increase range, and allow the stasis to impact overall speed.
    b. Add a Target Painter, taken right from eve its an element that would not use ammo, would have a cycle time and a cooldown. This element, limit 1 per ship, would inflate the cross section of a ship a percentage. Nothing crazy but enough to give a ship a chance to rock paper scissor... anyone can use this, even cannon boats obviously, but it would go on a seat just like stasis. Range should be limiting factor, so the farther from the ship the less it inflates the crossection as the painter 'fades' strength. This prevents it from being overpowered, but allows it to give other weapon systems a change.

Just some ideas, that NQ isn't going to read XD. Cause even if they did we would never know. <-- now slogan until one of you do read me dangit.

hdparm reacted to Dakanmer in Rebalancing schematics
I get that NQ thought they were doing a good thing by changing how schematics were done, because it got more money out of the system more consistently and time gated industry for anyone without a fortune and a zillion alts, but...well, they do a lot of things that run 180 away from the whole "player driven" etc concept, and reject the most sane solutions and ideas in favor of the dumbest. That's kind of expected at this point (the mass exoduses from the game didn't happen for no reason, and a lot of people are still waiting for serious improvements and NQ to make good on their promises before coming back), so all anyone can hope for is mitigation. So mitigation. Schematics are trash, but it's what we have.

Get rid of schematics for pure, product and fuel production, regardless of tier. You DO NOT need all that much complexity in production to melt stuff, which is exactly what pure/product production is, nor do you need much complexity in fuel production, since the machines aren't doing much beyond catalyzing a reaction or distilling a substance. You need more complexity to produce a screw, a pipe, an injector, a power system, or any number of parts, yet there are no schematics for those things. There should be some sanity and consistency to how a system is implemented, even if it's blatantly to slow people down and get money out of the system. For the schematics that remain, balance their costs so that what they ultimately produce isn't so expensive that people will intentionally avoid all PVP just to protect their huge investment. The costs associated with T2+ voxels alone makes them a luxury for bling, rather than viable armor for PVP. The pure ore schematics cost too much for what they produce (especially at higher tiers); the product schematics cost too much for both the inputs and outputs; and the cost to output ratio of voxels is just sickening. If you want T5 armor plating (like pure titanium), you will end up with a cost of ~148,000,000 quanta for 10m^3 of voxels if you do buy the raw ore on the MP (because we're all supposed to specialize so that the economy functions as NQ wants). Most ships require a LOT more than 10m^3 of voxels, even if we're just looking at armor plating and not all the interior work (which will also probably be really expensive). Now put that into perspective: you're not just taking a voxel shell out into combat, but expensive elements. A ship designed for combat, with the best armor plating, will likely use higher-tiered elements, which themselves can run from hundreds to around 1.2 million quanta (space radar L is no joke, and you only need one of those), bringing the total element cost into the hundreds of millions (cost of schematics to make pure + product + element + the cost of the ores themselves). And that doesn't even look at ammo costs from schematics + ore. How often does NQ think that PVP will happen? On what scale do they want it to happen? Any org that invests that kind of time and money into a combat ship, only to lose a fortune every time their voxels get evaporated, would have to be ludicrously rich...which means that the only viable PVP for PVPers is to either a) get that apex ship and only hunt helpless people, or b) make a bunch of weaker ships that only cost a tiny fortune. PVP battles (not counting pirate activity, because that's not battle) will be predictably rare to the point of being an event, if at all. Because you need a fortune to do it, and throwing all of that money (and time) away for a spectacle is just insane. The time required to produce schematics is just bonkers, so reduce their production times drastically. If you don't have a large org or a zillion alts, you'll be stuck with a small factory. If you do have those things, you'll be stuck with constantly feeding schematics into each unit, because there's no system to distribute them via a central hub.
There have been a ton of good alternatives to the schematic system suggested, even before the schematic system was decided on. NQ, as usual, ignored all of those more reasonable ideas proposed by people who still believed that NQ intended to keep its promises about "player-driven" etc, and instead went with this craptastic system. So these are my balancing suggestions to a system that never should have been implemented in a player-driven game. Especially not since we're talking about digital schematics being essentially uploaded into machines that, for some unknown reason the machine's developers decided would delete its database every time produced something, and then load the next digital schematic to be used and deleted. @NQ, tell us how often you load a function in your coding, and then delete it from your computer after every time it gets called, forcing you to re-write it and re-load it into the computer. Seriously, that's how stupid this system is. You would fire anyone who came up with that method for coding, and you would be right to do it. Using time gating and draining resources as an excuse to implement it, when you would fire someone for exactly those reasons, says that you don't respect the community just as loudly as ignoring the many alternatives that were more reasonable (like requiring regular industry maintenance because of machine degradation from use, or player-created schematics that don't get deleted but require talents to "research," or any number of others).

You me both... twas the 0.23 exodus of players.  I was 2 days away from my warp beacon to start cooking and came back to discover a 800,000,000 (yeah, if memory serves, it was 800M, later reduced to 200M) schematic fee to start up the warp beacon factory.  Left the game until a few weeks ago after that point.

Only good news:  once you start racking in quanta, just start making 12 hours of schematics before you call it a night.  Those T1 Product smelters will run for awhile is you load them with 500 schematics each.  Still feels its a crappy solution that just adds distraction and worse, frustration, to the game.  e.g.  it makes the game less fun to play, not more.

Schematics are just stupid. Remove them already and fire the person that came up with that idea, thanks.

    1. Way too expensive to be considered a "useful" game loop
    2. Only being craftable in inventory is beyond frustrating for your smaller/casual audience.

It will kill your game in the long run. How is money distributed to players? By selling ores to bots? *Insert big brain .jpg here*
So the entire goal of this game is to grind T1 ore to sell it to bots, to be able to afford schematics for their production. Buying stuff/parts from other players in the markets isnt worth it since they will put the schematic price on top.

I quit during alpha/beta when schematics were introduced and came back to review this on release. This system is still beyond garbage, considering I have to manually look up all the schematics needed for a product. Should at least give people the option to "Que up all required schematics for this element" button.

    Cheers

hdparm got a reaction from Wolfram in [Lua] All global variables
This is the output of a script that dumps all global variables. Lua coders may find this somewhat useful.

The script was run in r0.21.2 on a hovercraft seat that has 2 fuel tanks and a radar linked. Some functions were called with pcall. The first value indicates whether the call was successful, the second is the actual return value or the error message.

To see only elements' functions, visit this topic.

    Dumping script
The script used for dumping is based on something I found on Stack Overflow, with some extensions.

    In unit start(): https://gist.github.com/d-lua-stuff/180707c172382d06d2c80213a1638f66
    In system update():
coroutine.resume(dumping_coroutine) The script will run for a few seconds and then automatically turn off. Output is saved to Dual Universe 's log files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NQ\DualUniverse\log

    Dump analyzer
To avoid having to look through the logs manually, a Python script was written. It extracts the output of the globals dumping script from Dual Universe's log files, and creates separate files for dumped globals and for members of each linked element.

    Usage:
pip install six python dump_analyzer.py C:\Path\To\Log\File.xml Change log

hdparm reacted to TobiwanKenobi in Achievement rewards are negligible. Increase the talent point reward greatly to make them fun.
NQ, the talent point rewards for achievements are so tiny that they might as well not exist. Yet these achievements could be a fun and rewarding activity to pursue if they gave meaningful rewards. An easy way to increase player engagement and give them 'something to do' would be to increase these rewards by A LOT. It would also motivate people to learn other parts of the game that they haven't yet experienced.

    Examples:
First Blood - Destroy 1 ship of size XS: 120pts --> 5000pts (about one hour worth of training)
Master Gunner - Shoot all types, variants, and sizes of ammo: 3240pts --> 50,000pts (about ten hours worth of training)
Factory Master - Have at least 50 industry units running simultaneously: 1080pts --> 25,000pts
Speed Freak - Reach max speed for the first time: 120pts --> 5000pts
Billionaire - Reach 1B in your wallet: 9720pts --> 129,600pts (a full day of training)
Expert Miner - Extract ore from 20 different planets or moons: 9270pts --> 129,600pts
    etc. etc.

Give us rewards that we can be excited about and achievements will be fun! It will give players lots of things to do at launch and encourage them to experience all the game has to offer.

Plaster should be a thing to replace the cosmetic need for light concrete but, plaster isn't concrete.
    Iron is heavy
Steel is lighter then Iron but actually stronger, so having HP tied directly to mass is a bad idea.  Rare ore based materials, expensive matierials etc should be able to be ligher and stronger. If I build a ship out of carbon nanotubes and titanium it should be a better ship then out of iron and wood and concrete

Our whole corp left the game with the introduction of schematics. At that time we had a large production plant with contract manufacturing for other players up to complete shipbuilding. There was a lot of player interaction. When we read that Schematics might be completely removed, we were happy and started to reactivate old contacts. Unfortunately, we now have to state with this news that NQ simply doesn't want players to play the way they want, but would rather have a rigid theme park concept. It's a shame for a game that could have been something big.

    This will create new TAX

Yet another "small fee".... When combing all situations where Aphelia collects those so called "small fees" total becomes wery big.

Am I the only one that find it ironic that DU is a so called open-world building MMO with the slogan "make your own game", that has a restrictive and limited scope of game features that forces players to play in a very specific way. And getting more so with every new patch..

People will be able to make a small range of stuff on the side, but dedicated industry is dead.

I do not think this will lower market prices (on the contrary: material cost is already not in line with the price of higher tier items), but it will succeed in banning industry as an specialism.

Together with the (probable) upcoming wipe it kind of rules me out for coming back to the game because the industry is what I liked most since Alpha.

    This I do not understand.

We were  supposed to enter totally empty alien planet in a spaceship and start there from the scratch.
In this original scenario only way to proceed is to be self-sufficient.
Bigger goals maybe by small groups or later in orgs, but self-sufficient still.

Now we got tens of fully furnished markets all over the planets in this whole solar system. Who build them. Not us; which we were supposed to build.

If ever we can find a new solar system or new planet, will those be full of Market buildings even before one human has stepped down from a ship after finding it?
How to colonies new planets if we can not be self sufficient?

This handhelding Themepark game is not what I opted in at Kickstarter.

Before 0.23 there was lots of in-game interactions. Game was alive and fun. Schematics killed all of that.

Interactions between players will newer happen by force. No way!
NQ: Stop this interactions by force nonsense

Interactions will only happen if we, the players, choose to do so.

    Edit:
ps. How will using markets create interactions between players???
I can do most of my business anonymously and remotely. Even if I visit marketplace I newer interact with a player "because doing business." Current markets just do not need or enable player-interactions.

Before 0.23 we had lots of group-game-play operations, Mining ops, Hauling stuff for org members (way before missions), building together, helping to fix ships, rescue missions, manufacturing for other org members, you name it, we did it.
None of those required interventions by Aphelia nor using Markets.

We avoided markets because of all that junk and lag there. Some created own in-org markets by using dispensers in a creative way.
I created small factory and org members started to bring in ore and I manufactured (only) what they needed.
Our small org had only 3 factories, other members were using our services.
Building "‘build-it-all’ Mega factory" was in our plans as a Shared Org - project. What was wrong in that???

We did not need guidance by Aphelia or NQ.

Who ever said there was not enough interactions before 0.23 did lye.

    Secondly:
‘build-it-all’ factory manufactures nothing. Nothing at all. Running that kind of factory is a huge effort which only few players want to do.
‘build-it-all’ factory actually creates interactions and enables group-game-play. Manufacturing only few items and selling them at markets kills interactions.
Also factories mostly produce elements which have no use as they are when they appear into container. Those elements only enables further more advanced game-play such as PVP, ship building (both for pvp and other ships) . etc.
