Wardonis got a reaction from Ambaire in Greifers
My largest concern about this game is the opportunities that griefers will have. I hate pvp, doesn't matter what game it is, FPS, RTS, MMO doesn't matter. I detest the concept on a fundamental level. I plan on building ships, I already have designs for required dozens of players to use efficiently. I also want to build space stations and shipyards. I have absolutely zero interest in participating in any combat, all i want to do is build. I like the idea of "arena zones" that are specifically for combat. Otherwise players like myself will be griefed endlessly by the more disreputable members of the community. Sanctuary zones need to be more common and easier to make use of.

Wardonis got a reaction from REAPERCHAOS in Creative mode
Hello, I know it's been said before but I feel it kind of needs to be rehashed. We need to have some kind of construction simulator that doesn't require resources. Building anything larger than a fighter just isn't practical any other way. With thoughts towards larger ships like 5-10 man corvettes, destroyers, frigates and cargo haulers, those kinds of ships would take eons to farm material for and were not even talking about battleships, carriers or cruisers that are substantially larger.
As a ship designer, I feel this is an incredibly important point. For years I've used minecraft of all things to design ships, and it works, but I could never imagine designing ships like this one without having unlimited resources for design. The resources spent on mistakes and correction alone are massive. This is the largest ship i've built but I have a MUCH larger ship in mind i'd like to try and make one day, but its crazy big, 13.6miles x 7.5miles x 6.2 miles by plan. I doubt i'll ever attempt that design in this game, but i'd like to see it one day.
These are a few of the ships I DO want to make in this game.
Centurion
Trident
Maelstrom
Valenroth
these are just a few of the ships I have in mind, Like I said I have 2 dozen designs, and i'm only 1 person. I still work on them, watch me here if you want. but my point is, i'm sure many other designers feel this way and feel that the lack of a creative mode would be game breaking.

Kinda like in Starmade? I mean I agree with that, even if the "rail" is just a painted line on the floor or wall.

there was a topic on that somewhere; but I agree, this would be a nice addition

I'd certainly hope we get a "creative build mode" sooner rather than later.
There's a difference between "design" and "construction". Design is a 1-man process, but large-scale construction requires a team.
If designing large structures are only possible if you have the materials for building it, that will essentially mean that only a handful of players (the nominated designers in large player orgs) will ever be able to "design" large structures and ships.

Personally, I think that a 'holo-builder' would be cool where its basically a giant hologram that you can build in. Although as stated above, prototyping should cost resources but for large ships it may just be way too much. So what if the holo-builder cost around 10% of the normal resources without it and you had to say, run power to it (Not sure what this would actually be or even if there is a way to have a direct power input yet) but I think it would allow for greater creative control, especially among smaller corporations.

Wardonis reacted to A.F.T in Creative mode
Hello all. Based on my experience with the construction of the ships in the games like SE, Avorion, Empyrion i would say that the creative mode is a life NECESSARY. Yeah you can make some ship in "real universe" for a mining, exploring and fighting - but it is will be a something simple and cheap or just "flyingcube". Maybe you cannot understand what does it construction is mean. But just for example i build not big 20k blocks battleship. I waste over 20 hours to build the hull of the ship then 30 hours to fill it. And then 2 weeks for a test it and make it good and balanced combat ship. If you want do all this thing in the "real game" you need army of miners, builders and defenders.

Wardonis got a reaction from Munney in Can these things be crafted?
I'm planning on creating a shipyard and i have several dozen ships in mind to create, from large to small, and there are going to be a ton of hurdles to doing this. I'm curious if I can craft a few things to make life a bit easier.
1 Safe Zone: In the interviews JC mentioned that there would be a safe zone around the starting area where pvp is disabled. Personally I despise pvp in any game no matter what it is, except smash bros :), but I know i'm in the minority. If all my time, attention and resources are devoted to ship building, i'm a sitting duck for any pirate or scab that wants to make my life hell. I have created an organization I intend to be faction neutral and specifically for the shipyard and owned territory. Being able to erect a safe zone around it would me the freedom and peace of mind to work without the worry of being set upon.
2 Economy Structures: With the scale and number of ships I intend to create resources with be a major problem. If I can create a bank nearby that might help me manage resources a bit better. If I was also able to craft an auction house nearby that would also help me rapidly gain resources I would naturally chew through with the scope of ship design I intend. If I were to craft the auction house perhaps I might be able to extract a fee for use of that particular auction house, say 1%. Not of all transactions, only of those that take place through the one I create that is in my territory.
If I can combine these I could most likely create a thriving neutral environment that I could use to keep my ship building running smoothly, thats my hope anyway. Any chance?

Considering that they have said the game is designed to be run on a mid to high end PC, I'm not sure any mac could even run it

Wardonis reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Creative mode
Hi there,
It's true that:
- Massive Constructs "battlestar cruiser" size or "death star" will require incredible amount of resources and may not (or hardly) be possible to build alone.
- We don't plan to let players import design from 3D tools like 3DS Max, Blender or Zbrush.
However:
- It's also true that trial & errors will have a massive cost in resources if designing/prototyping a very large of spaceship must be done in the "real" in-game universe.
- It's also true that it would force all large ship designers to get huge amount of resources just for designing, not even for building. The ideal situation would be that the designer role shouldn't be tied to gather huge amounts of resources (this should be left to the production role).
In conclusion:
Yes, having a creative mode inside the game, just for designing purpose (without giving any free resources in the "real" in-game universe) is something we are considering.
However, this is a huge feature to develop, and while we would like to add it to the game, there is a high chance it won't be implemented before the official game release. If it's implemented at some point, it will be probably after, in an expansion.
Best Regards,
Nyzaltar.

Wardonis got a reaction from Ezghoul in Creative mode?
Lack of resources would turn a 1 week project into a 1-3 month project depending on rarity, I am all for a creative mode for design, but requiring the actual resources to build. I have nearly 2 dozen ship designs planned out a ready to go. Instead of it taking a year to get them out it'd take like 10. The design aspect of the game is what I am drawn too and requiring resources just to design would be a major blow to the game IMO. You don't need resources in real life to create a blue print, why should we in-game?

Wardonis reacted to Neza in Creative mode?
Hi everyone,
another question from a newbie:
The ship editor in Dual Universe is by far the most capable I have seen in any game and it offers nearly unlimited possibilities in terms of creativity (that´s the very thing that convinced me to support this game).
Now my question: Will we players be able to try and experiment with blueprints without imminent resources consumption?
What I have in mind is a creative mode for creation of blueprints so that resources are only required if I actually want to build the blueprint and turn it into a flyable ship.
The alternative would be days of resources gathering before you can even properly try out the ship editor (Most people I know would not be in for that because of the limited free time a working person has).
In my book, this would work out nicely for large projects that require a lot of resources (and hence players) to complete:
You could simply post a picture of the blueprint on e.g. the forum of you guild as a preview of what is being constructed.
Additionally, this would aid the construction process assuming that everybody helping with the construction can see the blueprint and hence the shape of the final construct.
Best regards,
Neza

Another approach would to be implementing a wireframe blueprint mode. It would show in the DU world as if your building a ship but you would only be using place holders/empty blocks.
I think this may be a more useful implementation when working as a team anyway. The team foreman could layout placeholders or "guide" blocks as needed to help direct the rest of the people building.
Another benefit is you wouldn't require the skills to place or use specific blocks (if that's a thing) to guide your crew.
In my opinion it would be a mistake to split the community of builders off into a creative/offline mode.

Repairing from the Inside sounds fun.
But I would also like a Method to do it from the Outside (maybe a Space Walk - or a Repair Droid a la Star Wars).

Personally, I'd like to see gathering gas from gas giants, nebulae, stars etc as a means to extract the complex and/or heavier/exotic elements required for ftl travel. (or perhaps the gates require some sort of specially mixed and refined molecular structure)
Would be really neat if you had to go into low orbit, scoop hydrogen (this being slightly easier than from a star lol)
Or perhaps a station that extracts the elements from orbit

Might be interesting to have a repair tool that targets only a certain area. If a ship is very damaged, you'd only want to repair the most critical areas since materials would be limited.
